They’re not terrible.
Things to know:
Double check your exam is covered by insurance, contacts generally aren’t.
Don’t expect a friendly greeting, the out front staff was eye contact avoidant, ironically. I was simply asked if I had an appointment, no «hey how are you» which could be a plus to some, but wasn’t to me.
The behind staff however were friendly and accommodating, there was barely any wait to get my exam, and both the lady tasked to shoot air in my eye, and the Dr were very nice and professional.
The Exam was thorough and pleasant, she followed it by answering my questions. Little surprised that she was the first one to ask what I was there for ie. Glasses/​Contacts/​Eye health.
I was prepared to buy my glasses today, cash in hand, but the front desk attendant simply pointed to a wall and said «79.99 there and up to 250 from there» As I couldn’t see except up close it took a bit to find them. All the «affordable» glasses were smudged and not terribly appealing and didn’t include prices, forcing you to rely on the uninterested attendant. Once I said I would only take my prescription, no glasses, any semblance of professional interest disappeared. She handed me my prescription and that was it. No bye or have a good one.
Also no same day glasses.
I say for your glasses prescription, with insurance, you can’t beat this place.
If you’re spending money though I say spend it elsewhere ie.
Get your glasses elsewhere as I’ve chosen to do. Honestly 80 $ starting is pretty gouging for basic glasses tbh.
I plan to price check the 100 $ quoted Contact exam before I get it done here.
All said and done, go for the exam, not the ambience or to spend your money.

–100 stars!!! So I went in with my roommate to pay for her «already made contacts». And had to pay over $ 150…it’s funny at lens website, even walgreens… and other contact websites these same ones I bought today were under $ 100 for both left and right. They also charged her for the eye exam, but her insurance covered it from what the insurance company told her. So my advice to everyone, please check with prices before you purchase anything, and to the front desk workers (the 2 hispanic ladies), they have an attitude problem. Ya’ll need some fun, energetic employees who actually love what they’re doing, it’s YOUR job to make customers happy. I wasn’t today, and thanks for not greeting us and the other customers who walked in after me. Thanks but no thanks.

Dr. Huang was amazing! She was very nice, courteous and extremely knowledgeable. Considering my extreme prior health issues she offered lots of advice, suggestions and additional testing. I felt very comfortable opening up to her and more importantly she cared.
It’s sometimes hard to find good doctors or Healthcare professionals that actually care about the patient instead of their insurance.
I wasn’t just another patient or $$$ walking through the door. My concerns were voiced and listened to. I have another appt. this coming weekend for additional testing and will refer them to everyone!

Soooo… My fist impression was not as expected! The reason why I came to this location was through a referral. As I walk in I didn’t even get greeted I started walking trying to search for the dolce brand and a lady in the front with long black hair doing paper work first of all was rude & to top it guided me the wrong direction. Clearly she did not know what she was doing. As I am looking like a real lost person now…

told me the dolce were at the totally opposite direction… She guided me the right way was very professional. No I didn’t end up buying anything just because the instant I went in I didn’t see any professionalism. And if it wasn’t for the young lady I would’ve had rate this a 1 star.

I’ve been getting my eyes examed at Dr. Collins office for over 15 years, bring my parents, wife, siblings here; Sophia is always ready to help, so is Vicky, Alex, Maria, Lab lady (bring here your bent up glasses and she’ll fix em for you, most of the times for free). They’re so good at what they do they had to expand their office. I always say: ask the right questions and you get the right answers they’ve always been upfront with me with their prices and services.

I have been coming for years now. Awesome service. The girls in the front are very kind and helpful.

This optometrist is convenient for me because I use a wheelchair and have to get around by bus (just a one bus trip). I always ask for one of the female Drs to examine me because I have diabetic retinopathy and edema and it takes longer for me to adjust when they are switching lenses asking which is better (the male Dr tries to rush me the three times I saw him and I had to have the exam redone because it seemed the Rx was not right). He is a good Dr just a little impatient in my opinion.
Also they have an excellent selection of all the expensive designer frames but have a poor selection of budget (or free depending on your insurance) for the men. Just like a shoe store they have 4 times as much stuff for the women than the guys. The funny thing is that there are maybe three companies in Italy that manufacturer frames for the entire world. It is not like the designers have their own factory so you are just paying for some ones name. I found the more the frames cost the flimsier they felt. They were telling me that you are paying for light weight material… yeah, right, like they use carbon fiber, it tis the same plastic as in the bargain frames. You are paying for the colors and the name.
So what is one to do? I have to see and dealing with Costco is a pain and my insurance pays more if I use an approved optician.

5 stars all the way. Came in for my eye exam today and saw Dr. Tiffany she was very nice and professional, was very thorough when explaining my exam and everything she was doing. Sofia is always very helpful and very nice. Glasses are always ready in less than a week.

Awesome personnel, Sophia is the best we go back 15 years, everyone else also professional grade. All my family members come to doctor Collins office, thank you so much, you are highly recommended.

Horrible customer service. I came in to pick up my prescription because I’m not crazy and I will never purchase glasses from their overpriced selection. The front receptionist was too busy texting, I was just standing there staring at her, another lady had to ask me if she could help me. Then she asked another woman to help me and she assumed I didn’t speak English. Anyway, this one yelled out my insurance information in front of other clients sitting in the waiting area and I had to repeat to her that I was paying cash but I wasn’t interested in their selection I simply wanted my prescription. It’s a circus in there. I’ll never be a part of again.

They ended up fixing my glasses today by cutting them so I ended up with them in a couple of hours! I am happy with them.

I love the fact that I can walk in and I always leave happy and satisfied with they’re service here I’ve been a customer here for 14 yrs. Anything I need it’s very rare I hear them say «no it can’t be done» all you hear from them is «NO PROBLEM! »

I’ve been coming here since I was in 5^th grade. So well over 20 years now. There’s a reason I keep coming back. Vicki and Sophia have been a constant since I was kid. Everyone has always been great and super helpful. The doctors have always been amazing as well. I don’t have one bad thing to say about this place. Actually maybe just that the parking is awful but that’s not their fault. Their selection of glasses is huge and they can always order something if they don’t have it. 5 stars!

Today was my first visit and I have very mixed feelings …
The area is not the best and warning there is NO parking! So that is a frustration/​negative.
I went in for an eye exam —I have always gone to walmart been going for years and the exam for both contacts and glasses and finding the right contacts total is about 80 – 90 dollars. Today my jaw hit the floor Rey were going over my benefits of insurance and saying I would get more if I just used insurance for glasses and did the contacts or of pocket. This made no sense especially since they proceeded to tell me that there is a «fitting fee» for contacts of 129 dollars??? I’m sorry excuse me? I have never in all of my 10 years of wearing contacts and getting the same services they call a fitting ever heard of a fitting fee or even knew they could charge an additional fee for this. At that point I told them never mind I would leave and they seem to have figured out how to use my insurance and only charged me 60 plus my five dollar copay so I will be interested to see how they billed my insurance because I better still have the 200 toward contact and they better not have done something shady to get that amount applied toward the «fitting». Honestly when it came to payments and benefit discussion it seemed very bizarre and as though they were trying to get me to make a decision that would best benefit them not me …
The doctor I had was very kind and very nice but seemed distracted or nervous I had listened to her and she frequently contradicted her self and forgot which lens was wrong (they didn’t have the right sample)…again very nice but it was odd…
Also I asked to get my glasses prescription and I got home and was looking at the new one they gave me versus my old one and she did increase it .25 as she said but the axis is COMPLETELY different which is confusing and concerning so I will be calling them first thing in the morning to confirm …(UPDATE 3/​22/​15 — I did confirm this and also asked for the other information about my prescription such as my PD which they would not give to me and said they only give that if I get glasses there which I do not feel is right because I paid for the exam therefore I am paying to find out my prescription (with a the details) and again at the trusty walmart vision center I have never had a problem with this and they always give me everything and when I call they are more than willing to answer any questions about my prescription and resolve any concerns. When I called about the axis they just said yes that is what it says when I asked how it could have changed so much she just said well the doctor wrote that so that should be what it is. I will also add that the main doctor did reply on Unilocal and stated that the axis can change over time and it is likely that is what occurred. I appreciate his time and reply though I still do not believe I will return here next year. I have not received my glasses yet to see how well the prescription works or if there is an issue of any kind but I will update this as things occur.
On another note my insurance VSP was amazing when I called them about my experience and concerns they really took time to listen and answer all my questions and are also issuing me a refund check for the 60 dollars I paid in addition to the copayment because they said some places combine the charge into one for the eye exam and they understood my confusion and frustration because of my previous experience at charges at Walmart —in summary they were amazing and I will continue to keep VSP insurance)
I really should have stayed with the Simi Valley walmart vision center … This is to concerning and bizarre.

We were new to the area they are always friendly and helpful my husband know everyone by name i really like this eye place would not change it. Thank u guys for the wonderful job u do everyday

I called them today because I have an eye infection, got there and saw the doctor in less than 15 minutes. Fastest service ever, thank you!

Do your research and ask them for prices before you go in. If you have insurance, please confirm with the company before you go in.
They have separate exams for contact lenses and separate for eye glasses, most other places have one exam for both, not to mention their exam prices are higher than others in the area and somehow their exam base price fluctuate based on what insurance you carry… highly unethical.

I had been coming here for 12 years. Little by little every visit has been getting worse. First, their contact prices are outrageous so I always have to do a «dance» to get a fair price. Basically, I find the same contacts online (
) and they finally price match. I think many people just pay their prices without knowing any better. Their markup is anywhere between 50−100% higher than online.
(2) They are very PUSHY with selling eye glasses. The assumption is that they must get a strong commission on the frames.
(3) The final straw is that the optometrists themselves now seem to be trying to nickel and dime their customers. Recently, they introduced a «contact lens fitting fee». This was a 30 second «procedure» where they simply check my contacts to see if I can actually see out of them. I would think that it would be just good practice to ensure that your products/​recommendations actually work. To charge $ 69 dollars for this is RIDICULOUS! Granted my insurance company picks up most of the tab, but one gets the feeling that their is some swindling going on. I’ve had the same lenses/​prescription for YEARS. Clearly my contacts do their job well, so why after all that time would I need to see if they fit correctly?
Lastly, the customer service has gone downhill. It took 20 minutes just to pick up my prescription when it was ready. Their seemed to be a lot of disorganization throughout the office.
I’ve only seen Dr. Collins twice in my 12 years there and he was fantastic. I hope that he knows that the other people occupying his office are not living up to his name. What a disappointment!

Wow unbelievable — I received contacts from this place less than 5 months ago and they have recently been giving me double vision. I spoke with the receptionist, Alex, who told me that they will not help my current situation as they have «already finalized my prescription.» If I want another check up it will require a whole new doctor’s exam that my insurance will not cover.
Worst service EVER. Do yourself a favor and avoid this nickel and dime-​ing establishment. Obviously Robert Collins cares more about my money than my eyes!
