An amazing and utterly unmatchable beer menu couples with a menu that(sadly) leaves you wishing that they had a bigger kitchen. The beer menu is nothing short of unbelievable. Honestly the biggest challenge is simply trying to decide on the beer when faced with such options. They have it all: from pale wheats to sludge-like stouts. And everything in between. The staff also knows their stuff, which is rather helpful when attempting to decide on a pint. Or two. Or more. Seriously. The only drawback is the food. They are hamstrung by the fact that they have probably the smallest kitchen in Northampton. Sadly it really affects what they can offer in terms of food, at Lesy compared to the other McLaddens in CT. The sandwiches are food, they just lack in options. Honestly just come for the beer and get food if you need it and you’ll be fine.

I’ve been back to McLadden’s quite a few times since my original review, and I thought it was only fair I update accordingly. The bartenders have been excellent, and one in particular(unfortunately I can’t remember her name) really knew her stuff when it comes to scotch and whiskey. One of the things that makes for a great bartender is the ability to make good suggestions and encourage you to try new things, and in recent visits I’ve gotten great scotch and beer recommendations. The beer recommendations are particularly helpful given how intimidating the massive selection of beers on tap can be! My original issues with the space still stand — only a few cramped booths, awkwardly sized tables, not a lot of sitting area, noise level gets excessive, but there’s only so much you can do with a small space, I suppose. Definitely worth checking out if you’re a scotch or beer fan, which I would assume you are if you’re going to a bar.

The only reason it’s not 5 stars is that the food is not great, but it’s a fun place to go have a beer and hang with friends. I’ve only eaten here once, so it could of been a fluke meal, but it has caused me not to order anything again. However, anytime I have friends in Town we end up here on nights out. Some nights they have live music, which is super fun. The beer selection is amazing and all the bar tenders are super knowledgable, friendly, and fast.

This is an awesome bar to grab a casual beer and hang out in downtown Northampton. Their selection of beers is HUGE. They’ve got everything, from local favorites to selections from craft breweries all over the country. They’ve got more than beer too. The first time I came here, I walked in from the bitter, cold streets and needed a hot toddy and the bartender whipped up an excellent warming whiskey drink for me real quick! This bar is relatively dark, and it can be crowded but it isn’t terribly loud. If you sit at the bar with a friend or at a booth with a group, you can still have a conversation. There’s tons of seating. It’s a really comfy place. It’s definitely got a pub vibe, but slightly more upscale. It’s definitely worth checking out for an after work drink or make it a stop on your Friday night out!

We always try and stop here for a drink when we’re in Northhampton but don’t think we will anymore. They have a large list of bourbons and scotches on the menu but have only a handful of the cheap variety available at any point in time. This has happened every single time we’ve been there. Why then put it on the menu? The last time we were here the service was *extremely* poor and slow and we walked out that night vowing to never come back again.

For a Irish bar their food was a major disappointment. Dont even have Reuben sandwiches or beefstew.

Burger was really tasty, and their taps go on forever and ever and ever. Seriously, I think they had over a 100 taps. Either way, if you don’t find at least something on tap that you like, even just one, then there is something wrong with you. :)

The more I go to McLadden’s, the more I like it. It has the vibe I like for drinking good beer and bourbon: dark, decorated with books and wood paneling, with booths, nooks, and a nice bar. There tend to be more dudes at McLadden’s than other spots in Northampton, for what it’s worth. They have a huge selection of beers on draft. The only drawbacks of this are: 1) I want to drink them all, 2) They don’t have a menu, only a mobile site which is hard to access and navigate. If you know what you want or you’re comfortable asking the bartender for a rec, it’s not a problem. I just think they could do a better job of making their glorious beer selection easier to view. They also have a nice bourbon and scotch selection. They make a good bourbon cocktail too. I’ve only ever gotten apps here, and they were good drinking food. Highly recommend!

Hostess was great, service okay, the food and overall experience meh. We were tired, having completed for one of us a half marathon, the other, a full in New Hampshire earlier that day. Driving back to NYC. Stop over in Northhampton. A gastro pub with no burgers. An Irish pub with no potatoes other than the chip sort. What the heck? And, got my friend’s order wrong. So, if you want an array of beer, go here. If you want fish and chips, a burger… you know, pub food. Keep going.

You gotta check this bar out! I convinced the wife to go here last night after I read Ben M’s review. Everything he had to say had me really excited and he was spot on. To start we had all the crocks(beef chili, tomato bisque), giant pretzel, they’re famous nachos with guacamole and a blooming onion along with a Guinness for me and some kind of crazy pumpkin beer(like a pie in a glass but gross) for the wife. My Guinness was obviously great but I don’t understand pumpkin in beer. It’s fine in my dunkin coffee coolata or pumpkin Pringles or even my pumpkin spiced pop tarts I had this morning but not in beer. I mean come on, that’s just not right. Not surprising for the wife though. The apps where all delicious especially the famous nachos. With cheese melted on top of tortilla chips with tomatoes and salsa. They were fantastic and the the fresh chives on top really kicked it up. Wicked mucho authentico. They were probably better than the nachos I had in Acapulco last year and this at an Irish pub. Crazy. Next for entrees I had the Ernest Hemingway a u jus and the wife had the Nathaniel Hawthorne. The bartender told me this sandwich was mr hemingways favorite and the one he ate almost everyday while writing Tom Sawyer and I could see why with loads of slow roasted angus prime top round covered in melted provolone with a fat crock of delicious au jus to dunk it in. Man that was good. The wife’s sandwich was really out of her comfort zone with turkey, bacon, Brie and raspberry jelly but for a foodie like me it was spot on. She usually just orders hot wings, sliders or some kind of Alfredo but she also loves raspberry jelly so she went out on a limb and tried it. We both thought it was in our top 5 best sandwiches EVER! Totally delicious. If your a foodie like me you gotta try it. For desert we had the bourbon apple crumble cupcake: butterscotch chip cake filled with jack Daniels, simmered apples, vanilla buttercream, butterscotch drizzle and crumb topping and the chocolate peanut butter explosion. bOOM! Both blew me away. Pun intended! A great way to finish off a great meal. Ultimate climax. This place is a foodie«must eat». I’m gonna trademark that.

What an amazing selection, if you’re a beer lover, you must checkout this place! Came here on a Sunday night, and it was really busy but the service was still great. Megan, one of the bartenders was particularly helpful in giving me suggestions and let me try a few beers before ordering. She was absolutely spot on with her suggestions. I bought 5 drinks, and was pleasantly surprised when I got the bill. There was also live music which really took the cake.

First off, this is my favorite bar on the planet. Every time I go here it feels like I’m getting picked up for a date by an absurdly hot girl with awesome tits except when you get sick of her tits she’s got 10 friends in the back seat all with different awesome tits. The bartenders are incredible and with over 10,000 beers on tap it’s impossible to get bored. This bar isn’t one of those gimmicky bullshit bars with a bunch of shit on the walls and people talking. This is a dark bar made for drinking awesome beers and that’s it, a heaven on earth for young pink irish boys like myself. Anyone who calls this a dive bar is retarded and isn’t even qualified to drink a beer in the first place. This is a very clean bar and a craft beer oasis. I highly doubt any other bar in MA has 2014 founder’s backwoods bastard or lost abbey’s agave maria on tap. Big shout out to my bartender Paige(sorry if I got your name wrong) last night. Her confidence with beer recommendations turned me on far better then any of the hardcore anal asian porn I watched this morning to get rid of my hangover. Do yourself a favor and go here asap, get a little tipsy then go home and make yourself a goddamn pb&j sandwich.

Great beer selection. A lot of west coast beers, but not very many local brews though. Visiting from California and hoping to experience some local suds. Staff was very helpful. And they have over 75 taps! Wish I could spend the afternoon here…

So the 5 of us show up on St Patrick’s Day at noon. Not busy yet. We squeeze into a small booth and order beers. They come in plastic cups(@ $ 7+ each). We order our Reubens(at $ 15 each!) Mine doesn’t come. And doesn’t come. And doesn’t come. I ask about it. It’s coming in a minute I was told. No. Finally, after 45 minutes everyone is totally finished(except me) and it’s still not here. So I cancel the order. No apology from waitress. No manager coming over to apologize or ask if there is something else they can get me. Nothing off bill. No complementary drink to compensate. No nothing. They might as well have said«screw you». Ok fine. There it is. I went home and had a peanut and jelly sandwich. Happy St Paddy’s Day to you, Mc Ladden’s. I won’t be back soon. And neither will anyone else I have the opportunity to talk to.

Download the application on your iPhone called«tinder» then upload 5 pictures of yourself-all must already be on Facebook. Pick the ones the celebrate your deepest fear and favorite shirtless selfie, then come to mcladdens and party at the bar — and swipe right. If your fanga gets tired, ask your neighbor to swipe for you. Order from the kids menu. It’s cheaper and a hell of a lot better than the cheese and meat plate for $ 20 you could order. DONTWASTETIME. After walking around endlessly, waiting for the right place to jump out at us, it never really did. «Wanna go in there?» «I dunno, what do you wanna do?» «Let’s go in there» For what it is, it was ok. I guess. It’s a dive with a limited menu of traditional Irish food. Bangers and mash comes immediately to mind. There are 105 beers on tap so you can’t possibly go in here and not know what you want. Well, it might seem like forever to make your choice but you’ll at least be occupied and fascinated. Cheers. The one thing on the menu I felt like I could eat, the tomatoes & mozzarella salad, would come with no basil because, «we’re out.» In her favor though she offered to discount our meal. There’s no real excuse for running out of food! The server was very nice & attentive. I think she felt bad. Sticky tables.

I love beer and this place has 105 beers on tap and a bunch more in bottles. That alone deserves five stars in Northampton. If you’re a beer person, you should definitely try coming here. All the people that work here are super friendly and helpful. I often ask for advice and they’re really helpful with their suggestions. This is one of my new favorite beer places in Northampton because it’s laid back. I haven’t really had the food yet, but hopefully I’ll try it someday! The only thing I wish is that the beer menu wasn’t on a TV screen on the wall(that rotates pages every 10 seconds). It would be nice if they had multiple TV screens and broke the beer down by style instead of brewery. It would make it easier to make a choice on what I wanted to drink.
