Was introduced to your coffee shop a few months ago and was so pleasantly surprised. Your Toasted Coconut Cream coffee is A-making! Love your locations too, especially the tiny little spot in downtown Northampton!

Tiny place convenient for to-go coffee and pastries. I go regularly because they are located along my morning route, but that doesn’t mean I love it. As other reviewers have noted, the baristas are pretty rude, especially the men. Without fail, every single time I come here(*at least* once a week), they barely say more than 2 words and look kinda pissed. Again, not enough to stop me from going considering the convenient location, but it’d be a lot more enjoyable if they just acted like normal people. Chai lattes are just okay, and always lukewarm instead of hot, but the flavor shots are a nice extra touch. Coffee is mediocre. Scones are great. If I could, I would give them an extra .5 stars for allowing dogs inside.

I love coffee and I love Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters, but this is by far their worst store. The people here are just simply rude. This is like the Dachau of coffee shops. I will continue to stop in the stores in Easthampton and Greenfield, where there the staff are a lot more friendly.

What a great place. I stopped by to pick up some baked goods for a family party, and bought a chai latte for myself. The chai was great, the baked goods were very good and fresh. The service was very friendly and quick. I will definitely be back.

Being a frequent flyer at the Shelburne Coffee in Greenfield, I decided to stop in at this branch this morning before work in Northampton. This location is much smaller than the shop in Greenfield and I have to say that I was fairly dissapointed with my visit. Walking in the place felt a bit cramped since it is small. It doesn’t help that they have a ton of random merchandise for sale and that the outdoor chairs were still in the store after being open for an hour. The staff here was OK, but not what I expected for Shelburne. In Greenfield they greet everyone who enters and this shop didn’t have the same enthusiasm. The Coconut Iced Coffee I bought was great as always, but the Greenfield breakfast sandwich was sloppy and they didn’t even take the time to cut it. The other critique I had was that I felt like an outsider being here and I couldn’t have gotten out any faster. I felt like they were staring and waiting for me to quickly leave. In the end, I will continue to stop at the store in Greenfield because of their great service and I will only stop here in the future if it is necessary.

The coffee and espresso drinks are really wonderful here. My favorite coffee in Northampton! I think the staff is always very nice and I get my drinks very quickly. My only complaint is that they don’t have even one vegan snack to eat. There are so many vegan bakeries in the area, they could easily have one vegan option. They have soy and almond milks available, so clearly people who don’t have dairy come there. Get vegan snacks and you’ll be my favorite place in Noho!

This branch of Shelburne Falls is for takeout only. The building is small and doesn’t have any tables inside. In prior years they did the best they could with the space, and set up some tables and chairs outdoors in the summer, but in 2015 they aren’t making the effort anymore. They even changed the wifi password since last year and wouldn’t tell me the new one — clearly they don’t want customers to hang around! The coffee is fine; like the other Shelburne Falls they usually have a wide variety of flavors available hot. Their iced coffee selection is smaller than their hot selection, even in the summer. I haven’t tried the food at this location.

Absolutely disgusting coffee and rude baristas make this a last resort when in Northampton. Seriously, save your money and go someplace else there are much better options for your money. The staff is so rude, it’s almost like your bothering them. Take your money and business elsewhere!

I usually come here for the coffee and sometimes for a breakfast sandwich as well. Generally it’s been good. Coffee is sometimes really strong but also good and they have a nice range of flavors available. Sandwiches are alright. Bagels are alright too and pretty big. I like to get the breakfast sandwich on a croissant or English muffin if they have either. Staff are friendly, location is tiny and crowded, there are two chairs outside but that’s it. I feel like the size of the store can cause issues due to everyone being really close to each other – I feel like staff there are doing the best they can in what is not a lot of room and this might contribute to some negative experiences people have had. They take cards but you can’t tip that way so it’s definitely worth it to bring cash or at least have some change on hand to leave something in the jar.

as a big fan of Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters, it’s a real disappointment to see this branch of the franchise fall so short of the excellence i have come to associate with the brand. wow. «nightmare» doesn’t even begin to describe the true living hell that comes with visiting this place. let’s start with this: the employees are unashamedly incompetent and i hate every singe one of them. they don’t listen to you when you talk to them, they stare back at you with these soulless eyes like a farm animal. they have no system of communication with one another and no clear command structure. they’re running amok back there and screwing up everything possible, and laughing it off, and never learning or correcting themselves. i stood there for 30 minutes waiting for a Buckland on an everything bagel(because they NEVER have pumpernickel) until i reminded them of what i was standing around for so long for. THEN the girl making the sandwich put extra sausage on there to try to compensate for the long wait, but that made it too big and sloppy and hard to eat. why would she do that? why would they not have a system in place to prevent something like that from happening. it has been suggested to me that the SFCR company sends the applicants they deem to be ‘rejects’ to the northampton branch. this is only a theory. the employees and service at EVERYOTHERBRANCH are perfect angels. the store is tiny and cramped. the outside seating area is in direct sunlight all day when there’s a shady spot not 10ft away. i saw an elderly couple bring their own folding chairs and set them up in the shady spot. they’re always playing the absolute worse techno/house music inside. i could go on and on i’ve had it. i’m never going back there. no one should ever go there.

As a person that hails from the infamous coffee driven Seattle, I have to say that this is the only real place to get good strong coffee. For years I have ventured to this coffee shop daily coming from Holyoke, often times out of the direction I am heading. The coffee and food are just that good. Another pro to these coffee shops are the eclectic and intelligent individuals whom work there. All friendly and personable and damn good barista’s especially for working customer service in the pretentious area of Northampton. What bothers me is the amount of bad reviews written about the people that work there. Could it be possible that the bad reviews are written by people whom were having a bad day which effected there perceptions??! Im thinking thats it cuz not one moment in the thousands of times i have been there have i seen or heard any employee being rude or unprofessional. In fact the ONLY negative interactions that i have had there was due to the OWNER. Whom was so rude to me I stopped going there for over a month because I cannot allow myself to spend my money and have it directly go into someone’s pockets who is so openly rude to the customers her business needs to survive. In fact the only reason i started going there again is due to the AWESOME staff that work there. I guess this review is here to put out the idea of perceptions being based upon the previous mood of individuals writing reviews.

Bleh! I love Espresso & derivatives like cortado & macchiato, etc. this place, no matter which location, never gives an espresso with crema. The flavor is fair, but the people making the drinks seem disinterested & indifferent to good service and any knowledge of making coffee drinks. And I’m talking about a simple, straight up espresso! I like the baked goods, but have never been impressed with the cofffee. Maybe a name change would help lower expectations — perhaps ‘Bakery’ vs. ‘coffee roasters’.

This is a good coffee shop. Great chocolate scone, almond scone and berry scone. They have several types of coffee brewed. Be aware they have no seating.

Stopped in for coffee and snacks. Got Hazelnut, Mexican Decaf and Colombian Supremo. Excellent coffees. Also got almond pastry, chocolate croissant and biscotti. They were all very very good. Really enjoyed, highly recommend. Better than those in town and didn’t cost a fortune.

I’ve been going to SFCR down the road from my house in Northampton for a few years now. There are times I am satisfied, and times I wish there were another option equally as close(aside from Dunkin Donuts). I love the location in Greenfield, with *always* friendly and accommodating staff, but recently have begun dreading my trips to the location in Northampton. I strongly dislike being made to feel as though the mostly-college-aged staff are doing me a favor by making my drink, ESPECIALLY if I use a debit card and not cash… if you’re going to work in a place that offers so many options, please don’t make me feel bad about ordering a complex drink. It may be a mouth full — but it is on the menu. Tell you one thing, no one at The Roost makes me feel bad about making that same order and I have started heading over there more regularly because of that, even though it’s further. There is one staff member whom I’ve heard on 3 separate occasions disparaging other clientele who are no longer present, talking about how she needs to be respected first before respecting a patron and her low-tolerance for anything else. Granted, I don’t disagree with her point of view, but I think it’s very unprofessional to have those kinds of conversations in front of other customers. After pulling a face the one time I’ve ever returned to have them correct an incorrectly made drink, this same staff member informed me she was only doing it because I was nice about it. It had taken a lot of courage for me to go back at all — I never return food or drinks, but I was indulging monetarily on this trip and really wanted my drink — and I was mortified at the attention she called to the exchange. I will say this is not ALL of the staff. There is a young man and two young ladies that work here that I’m always relieved to see. My opinion is that most if not all jobs are customer-service based and Northampton SFCR is falling far short of expectations. I would love to give them more money in exchange for a more pleasant experience.

Still wondering how its voted Valley’s Best every year… Nothing special about the coffee, plenty of local brews that are better. I do like to change it up with a cup from here once inawhile, but Rao’s is now a short walk, which usually wins out.
