First time here. Whole belly clams are very good, my wife had lazy lobster that she raved about. Not fancy, but definitely worth a visit. Side note, you pick up your tray at the counter. I pivoted the tray to get a better grip and spilled a few clams on the counter. A few minutes later Mel brought over a side order of clams to make up for what I lost. That extra attention is pretty special.

Nothing special at all. I had mediocre fried oysters, my friend had bland, spongy calamari. My rice tasted like chicken Rice-ARoni. If you’re hungry and have kids I guess it would pass, but don’t go out of your way when there are so many other great restaurants around here.

The food was great and delicious. Place was a little hard to find however. Very fresh and inexpensive. Came here on my birthday and the workers were really friendly and welcoming. Their Brewer beer is only $ 3 and tasty. Got a little buzzed too LOL

This place is old school. It’s been in Northampton longer than this generation of undergrads has been alive. It’s great at what it does, but you have to like what it does, which is fried things and seafood fried things. My favorite thing to order there is fried haddock and chips, and it never disappoints. Their frying oil is always clean and everything is done right. If you stay in to eat your food, you’ll be able to avail yourself of their giant tartar and cocktail sauce dispensers and various extra sauces. Yeah, so it’s unlike most other places in Northampton. It’s not fancy, and it’s not pretentious. You can take your grandpa here and he’ll like the food and the atmosphere.

The food is hot and the service is friendly. I wish I could give an extra half star for that. The food is quick and plentiful. The lobster bisque seemed thickened with flour and lacked flavor. The fried scrod was too thin and likely frozen. I like my scrod fresh, flaky, and thick. It’s right next to the bike path and has clean bathrooms, so it’s a convenient stop to tank up and have a pit stop. I liked the Steel Rail Pale Ale.

Please don’t waste your money! This place is lousy, really. The food is tasteless, especially the gelatinous, barely warm chowder, the cole slaw right out of a pre-mix vat, and frozen seafood. Just passing through… wish I had passed by.

Go for lunch, don’t go for dinner. This would be a 5-star review if not for one thing that bugs me about the restaurant. I’ve been going there once or twice a month since I’ve started working in Northampton. I’ve tried the fried scallops, Cajun spice broiled scallops and the fried clams. All the food and side dishes have been fresh and delicious. The fries are crispy, the pretzel rolls are soft and warm, the red potatoes are hot and creamy. The prices are excellent for lunch, most meals are around $ 7-$ 10. Now to get to my problem, I stopped in for dinner once after work and the dinner portion was the exact same size as the lunch portion. The problem is that it cost twice as much. I will continue going to the Fish Hook for lunch, but it is unlikely that I would return for dinner.

I stopped at Webster’s on a whim, and I’m glad I did. I had the(spicy) scallops over rice with two sides, and it was absolutely delicious. I’d stop back here without hesitation!

We promised to take our daughter out to a lobster dinner on her birthday. We looked a the Fish Hook’s website and it showed that they indeed had it. When we got there they said that they only had it when people call ahead. False advertising. They had the«lazy man’s lobster», but that was mushy frozen food. But, the steamers were excellent, and the staff was very nice!

(This is really a 3.5 star review) The Fish Hook is quite good, really. The fresh haddock and chips was tasty, albeit a bit heavy on the batter. Fish was fresh and flakey and the tartar sauce was thick, creamy and tangy. Nothing was over fried or oily which was awesome! Staff was NOT friendly and they seemed annoyed. This place is a little pricy for what it is. $ 13.95 for Fish and Chips in a dive bar atmosphere. No free refills on soda, so thats a pain. We paid $ 43 total for the both of us and its counter service. But if the vibe does not bother you, I would give it a go. Even though I’m not a fan of the feel of the place, I would like to try the fried scallops or shrimp at some point.

Not what we expected! The fast food type ordering threw us off! Truly only complaint all our food came out at once. However the food did not disappoint. Soup — lobster bisque had great taste Although a few too many shell bits. We split the lobster roll which was very tasty. My grilled Cajun trio was outstanding. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and the spice had just enough heat. Service was basic but staff were friendly enough. If my daughter attends umass we will definitely be back!

Really good food. We stopped here on our return trip from Vermont to avoid eating at a chain restaurant. We wanted to have clam chowder while we were in New England. The clam crowder was delicious as well as the scrod fish. Very nice, local seafood restaurant. Would recommend this to others.

So much amazing food here! The lobster bisque is great(not thick & creamy, if that’s what you’re looking for) Broiled Scallops were PERFECTLY made – light and flaky, not even slightly rubbery The fresh fried shrimp was juicy and not chewy or rubbery at all. The Lobster Roll is bigger and better than anything I’ve had outside of coastal Maine. I don’t think I’ll ever get anything else from Webster’s Fish Hook. The service, too was excellent. The staff was friendly, patient, and was very forgiving when I spilled my drink all over the floor. Any time I’m within 50 miles of Northhampton, I make a point of coming here.

I went here for a little family get together and found it to have been a great choice. But first let me tell you the one reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. I ordered a burger. Yes, a burger and I knew I shouldn’t expect much, its a seafood place for gosh sakes. I am not a big fan of seafood but my parents(in their 70’s)love it and the trip was for their benefit!). So my expectations for the burger were low anyway. But it was obviously one of those preformed burgers… the only kind in the world that a burger lover might find themselves turning down. It was cooked to order and then placed on a freezing cold bun. I don’t think it takes too much to make a decent burger and they didn’t do it and thus they lose 1 star. As I said, I know this is a seafood place. But if you put something on your menu, it should meet minimum standards. That being said, let’s move on to the good stuff. Three folks in our party got clam chowder and one had lobster bisque. They were piping hot and delicious, and a really generous portion. Main dishes ordered included fried oysters, haddock, scallops, and a side dish of crab cakes. Everyone was pleased with the taste of their food. Also, I got onion rings with my burger and they were good(and the large is a huge portion). The employees were friendly and helpful. Our visit was on a Saturday and as it was a family get together, we spent about 2 hours there and as there are no waiters or waitresses, there was NO pressure to leave quickly. Employee did come over and clear some things out of our way as a courtesy. A lot of older folks seem to come here as in the 2 hours we were there, numerous seniors came and went. The food here is fresh, fried seafood. I don’t believe there is a lot of «cooking» done beyond that. The chowder is bought by them already made. The sauces are not house made. The vegetables were what appeared to be basic, canned veggies. If this place actually got someone in there who created homemade sides, soups, extras it would be outstanding. But they don’t purport to be anything other than a place to get good, fried fish. And that is what they do, so who am I to say otherwise? A couple of words extra: the address is not listed on this site. It just says Damon Rd. It is located right on the corner of Damon Rd and Rt 9 and it is kind of attached to a Christmas tree place/nursery. Leaving the place and turning left(to go back toward King St) is, at times, next to impossible. You can take a paper menu to your table to make your choices and then return to the counter to order. Note that sauces and such are available at a condiment table toward the front, where you will also find warm rolls.

Somebody wrote a 2-star review – complaining about the salad bar and décor. If you’re going to the salad bar at a place called the ‘Fish Hook’, you’re doing it wrong. Get the fish, its good. Ask what is fresh, they’ll tell you. I had a skin-on halibut sandwich – awesome.

This is a less-than-30 minute trip from the CT/MA border that I can highly recommend! My friend N and I were on the hunt for a great lobster roll, and we were told Webster’s is the place to be. We piled in my rental, with our friends S & L in tow, for a quick road trip. We all ordered the lobster rolls. Three of us got bowls of the Lobster and Crab Bisque(L needs to look great in her bikini shortly, so she had a lame salad). Note: bowls are $ 1 more and well worth the additional cost for the size and taste. I enjoyed both so much that I was ready to road trip it again the next day for lunch! You got that hint of sherry in the bisque, and mine was loaded with both crab and lobster. The roll… a moment of silence… this was my first cold one, with mayo, and I’m smitten. The bread was tender, the lobster presence was huge, and there was just enough mayo to hold it all together. All four of us agreed that Webster’s deserved a 4 star rating. Casual interior with ample seating. You order at the counter then they yell your number when your tray of food is ready. Parking lot looks a bit small, but we didn’t have a problem finding a spot. I’d say pricey… but it’s real lobster for Pete’s sake! A bit over $ 20 a person, not including a drink or tip. After, we went into Northampton to walk the downtown and window shop(and walk off our dinners).
