The service is absolutely wonderful and personal. The dishes are inventive, with half the menu suggesting an eastern European flair. Those dishes are modified to emphasize lightness [yes, even the dumplings have paper-thin walls], freshness, and delicate preparation of the food. The bread basket presents 4 different choices, all delicate and delicious. Usually order a loaf to take home. The chef is creative, but will precisely follow preparation instructions [like my salmon medium-rare; and the lamb is prepared like no other New Zealand lamb I have tasted]. Vegetables are exquisitely prepared. Appetizers abound, and you will be delighted at the presentation. The combination plate [especially Silesian dumplings] and the portabella are favorites. Great wine list at reasonable prices per glass and bottle. Usually don’t have room for desserts, so no comment there. And all at a most reasonable price. And there is a selection of about 20 items on their lunch menu for $ 9.95! Downside: difficult to get in on weekends during the summer as the catering operation takes over the restaurant as well.

Came here on a Fri night. Romantic atmosphere with dimed lights. Was empty aside from only 2 other couples. Server was attentive. Ordered calamari as a starter. Was tasty and cane with two dipping sauces. For entrees, the romanoff beef stew was tasty. The sea bass however came in a super tiny portion. Come for a date night without a big appetite.

This was an interesting place to say the least, very clean, looks brand new, staff was great, our server was friendly and took very good care of us. Food, well I’ve had better. Beef carpaccio was ok, steak was ok, not seasoned at all, interesting that food was plated very nice however it was not tasty, nor fresh, the only dish we all tried and agreed was very good and didn’t disappoint was the beet salad. I don’t think I will be back, it wasn’t enjoyable at all.

We celebrated a private kid’s birthday event here. It was a lunch buffet style party. Overall great ambience, service and good food. They were accommodating of all our requests. We had kids and adults enjoy the event equally. We loved the food so much which was portioned in smaller quantities and many were wanting more, plus it was so yum.

My husband and I celebrated Valentines Day here. For the prices charged I expected exceptional food. My filet mignon which cost $ 30 was tough! The ambiance is weird. What are they going for? I will say that our server was nice and that is the only positive thing I can offer.

I had the salad and onion soup. I loved the Cobb salad, but I didn’t really care for the onion soup. I also love the calmness of this place, it’s great for a one on one. It’s hard to tell if its a restaurant from the outside, but it’s not bad at all. It has a hotel restaurant feel to it.

There were six of us for dinner on a Sunday night. We came in at 6:30 and were the only ones there. That didn’t seem like a good sign. Eventually there was one other table filled. We skipped drinks; note that this is definitely not the place for good beer. We shared grilled Caesar salads and everyone thought they were very good. Entrees, however, were another story. Seafood linguine went back(and we were not charged for it). The seafood was tough and my father-in-law had not realized just how creamy the lemon butter cream sauce would be. It really wasn’t much different from al fredo. The beef stroganoff was a generous portion but nothing special. My trout was good but a bit overdone. Most entrees come with two sides. My red roasted potatoes were tasty but salty. Asparagus was good. The server forgot to ask whether my sister-in-law wanted her lobster tail grilled or steamed. I think it was served steamed. In either event, she said it was just ok. She ordered borscht for one of her sides and complained that the menu said it would have chicken in it and it did not. The skirt steak was also just ok Dessert, however, was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the tiramisu and lava cake.

I work nearby, and a co-worker offered to buy me lunch at this nearby establishment. I had never even realized it existed. It is in the far corner of the stripmall at the Waukegan overpass over the spur. The place is small, and it was fully packed when we came in for lunch. It was also all older women that were there for a party of some sort. Our server was incredibly nice/friendly and she did a great job keeping our glasses full. The lunch menu has a good mixture of selections for $ 9.95. They also serve warm bread with your meal. Our table ordered the daily fish special(white fish served with rice and veggies with a butter cream sauce) that looked excellent, lobster ravioli which looked amazing, and a ½ bacon cheeseburger which I ordered medium rare. With my burger I ordered a side salad instead of fries which is an upcharge. I ordered it with caesar dressing which when served did not look like caesar to me, but smelled and tasted like caesar. The mixed greens were fresh with shredded carrots, tomatoes, and cucumbers. The burger was served with a pickle and topped with lettuce and tomato. The burger was cooked almost perfectly and the bacon was crispy and delicious. There was a lot of cheese, but it was still tasty. I would say a 5 for service, 4 for food, 3 for ambiance. 4 overall. I would definitely keep it on my radar for a workday lunch.

We loved this place. Ambiance was classy&comfortable and the staff were friendly, prompt and polite. The rack of lamb was tender, flavorful, and a delight. My husband adored his beef stroganoff, and my sons loved their cornish hen&tilapia.Dessert of crème brûlée, was a perfect end to a great night,.We will be back!

My husband took me here for my birthday and we had a pleasant dinner. We ordered the blini appetizers and borscht, both delicious. For entrees he had whitefish and I had the stroganoff, both of which we’d order again. Service was attentive and the chef offered us a free dessert for our special occasion. We chose apple tart which came embellished with swirls of raspberry coulis and ice cream. The stereo speakers were great, almost like having the musicians in the room with us. We’re glad we discovered Pavilion and intend to return.

Went there on a Groupon that was about to expire. I had been once before and thought the place was just okay. The ambience and service is good, but the food needs work. My girlfriend and I ordered the crab cakes for an appetizer. Tasted like something frozen with mostly filler and very little crab flavor. The sauce was cream based and did not have flavor. I ordered the beef stew, which was so salty I couldn’t even eat half. My girlfriend ordered the seafood linguini pasta with alfredo and the alfredo sauce was bland and tasteless, like it came from a powder. I mentioned my issue with the stew to the waitstaff and, to their credit, they admitted that they have heard this feedback before and that the chef is trying to adjust the recipe. I was given a $ 15 gift certificate to use next time. In addition to this location, I have also been to their Buffalo Grove location twice. Same story there… the food is just not worth the effort. With so many dining options in the north burbs, not sure I will return, even with the gift certificate incentive…

We went with a group of 6, and tried lots of entrees and appetizers. We all loved everything! Nothing bad to say about the food or the service, it exceeded our expectations. The décor was ok, but didn’t match the quality of food or the price. We were the only ones there, which is a shame because the food was excellent. They bring out delicious, fresh bread, hot from the oven, with soft butter(I hate places with hard butter). The asian skirt steak and romanoff beef stew got rave reviews, as did the julienne mushrooms and caprese tower appetizers.

Food: 3 Décor: 4 Service: 4 I came here with my gf for dinner Saturday around 7pm . 1. Trio double lamb chops, 26 So-so. Lamb chops were a bit overcooked and a bit bland. 2. Chilean sea bass with lemon butter, 24 Okay. Sea bass was cooked well, but it was rather bland. 3. Fruit and grilled veggie sides Pretty good. Fruit plate was decently sized, but could have been fresher. 4. Smetannik, 5 Mediocre. Probably the most authentic dish we ordered, but it was too dense and dry. Would have been better by replacing the strawberry sauce with more fruit and something more moist(maybe ice cream). Service was good.

Came here for dinner with the bf on a Saturday night. I wasn’t a huge fan of the décor, but it was great otherwise. We ordered: — Trio double lamb chops — delicious. I ordered medium, but thinking back, I should’ve gotten it medium rare(I was warned that the medium might look well done, but I stuck with medium) — Chilean sea bass with lemon butter — really fresh and flaky and just well cooked — Sides, 2 with each entrée: side salad had an amazing citrus dressing, veggies were nicely grilled, and we each got the fruit plate which turned out to be huge(we should’ve just gotten one to split) — Smetannik — just okay. The waitress recommended it and said that it’s very authentic but may be an acquired taste. It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t my fave, I just don’t think the strawberry sauce went well with it. Service was really sweet, I knocked over my salad dressing so they moved us to another table. Also kept my water glass full. We had a voucher which we had no trouble using.

This was my first time here but after reading earlier reviews, I can say for certain that the menu has been redone. There was nothing on the menu that seemed ethnic. All the food was contemporary fare. The décor must have also been redone because it did not resemble earlier review’s descriptions. First, the service was very good, bordering on overly attentive. Everyone we encountered, from the hostess to the bus boys, were pleasant and courteous. The food, while a bit pricey, is tasty and plentiful. It Is not quite fine dining but still very good. Everything arrived hot and as ordered. I definitely recommend this place for a quiet night out.

Great food and some of the best service I’ve had from any restaurant. I went here with my wife and our meal was excellent. We had salad, an app, main courses and dessert. All the staff was very professional and caring. I can’t wait to come back.

Ugh! Do not go out for Russian food. I repeat, do not eat it. It’s neither pleasant to look at nor smell. I don’t really know everything I ate, just that the duck and seaweed salad(which is Japanese) were best. Everything else appeared to be a combination of cabbage(red and white), mayo, and potatoes. There was even something called a garbage salad. You can tell they were going for a sleek décor(but keep in mind it’s a Russian place) so they ended up with these gothic/rustic chandeliers which were all slightly different(drove me nuts). Lighting was dim and everything was a shade of beige. That’s where the random balloons come in. Amidst the décor were several brightly colored balloons hanging from the ceiling. They must have been several feet in diameter. I don’t know who put them there or why… clearly they don’t «match» the décor. It was just odd. To their credit, the staff does stack the food plates very well(if you don’t understand, you’ve never been to a Russian restaurant). 2 stars for seaweed salad!

It’s nice to be surprised and the Pavillion was a very pleasant and unexpected pleasure. The restaurant’s roots seem to be Russian judging from the some of the help and other diners but the copious menu leans more to western Europe and the U.S. than to the east. Still, there are some eastern European dishes such a Rasputin Caviar Blini and Ukrainian Borscht but much of the menu is given to favorites such as Chilean Sea Bass, New York Strip Steak or Shrimp Tortellini Alfredo. The greater part of the menu is taken up by a marvelous assortment of hot and cold appetizers. Besides the caviar and borscht, one could choose Beef Carpaccio, Tuna Tartar, Crab Cake, Foie Gras or Artichoke Fritters, just to name a few. Indeed a good and interesting meal could be assembled from just the starters on this menu. We found the chef paid attention to the presentation as well as the flavor and service was attentive without being overbearing. Pavillion is certainly a good value and they currently have an $ 18, 3 course prix fixe dinner which is a steal.

Impressive dinner at Pavilion! Honestly I didn’t expect so much for this restaurant before I go, it’s new in Northbrook area. Last Saturday I went there with my boyfriend, it’s not a big restaurant but atmosphere is classy, small lounge looks nice too and serve variety of alcohol, they also have live music on specific days, its very nice to have dinner with live music, when we got there it was empty but right after one hour later, the whole restaurant was packed! It’s a good place for late dinner during weekend too, since they open till 3am. Service was outstanding, our waitress is knowledgeable of the food and she was very nice! We ordered Lobster bisque for soup, it’s a little too salty and didn’t have too much lobster meat, but it’s only 5 dollars, not bad to try. For main course I ordered sea bass and my boyfriend had salmon, didn’t overcook my sea bass and it was a big portion. Dinner better than what I expected, we also order chocolate martini too, so overall I like this restaurant. Menu price is fair, not too expensive, food was standard, European style. There is another restaurant called Petergolf right next to Pavilion, it’s a banquet hall and I think they do serve dinner too. Worth for 4 stars!
