Sometimes in life you regret certain decisions. I should not have listened to my co-worker and gone with my gut(and Unilocal)… but what’s done is done. Sushi was whatevs, I guess it wasn’t that bad but definitely not worth the price though. Also, I don’t understand why places like this drizzle so much sauce over some of their rolls. It is so excessive. Sitting at the bar, watching that prep did not help my appetite. Service was slow, took forever for a water refill with only one waiter and surprisingly a lot of customers came in here for lunch. Needless to say, will not be coming back willingly, but if management or something radically changes I might give it another try.

I went to order my usual BSCR, and the server was very friendly. Unfortunately, there was a hair wrapped around the creamy scallops… she gladly took it back and they remade it for us and she knocked it off the check.

Back when this place first opened I came here at least once a week. I was high school student with a part-time job, so it fit the budget and the BSCR was sooo good. After a few years I noticed that the quality of the fish gradually got worse and the portions got smaller. And please don’t start me on the horrible, slow service. After trying sushi Nozawa years ago I realized Shogun is like the fast food of sushi. And of course you have all the d-bag CSUN students that come here because it’s cheap. I could go on and on, but basically I hate this place.

Service sucks!!! You literally need to yell to get someone’s attention for some napkins. They take your order give you your drinks and food and don’t see them again until you leave. need to ask for refills sauces etc. So annoying. Foods alright

Love this place. Have always been a return customer. Coming from canyon country and its worth the ride. I’ve been to other places and their food doesn’t compare. Love the monkey brains. I have always recommended this place to friends and family! Excellent service also!

I’m thinking about the best way to write the review here… Two different experience dining in and eating out. I’ll write about their food first. Their sushi isn’t anything fantastic, but I don’t consume raw fish so my review is limited. I typically get their baked scallop roll, shrimp roll, crab roll, and spam roll because they are CHEAP!!! If I feel like eating sushi, this is my to go to place because it’s affordable. I have other places nearby but I’ll be spending a pretty penny eating there. I’m really in love with their baked scallop roll and spam roll, but their other rolls are typical, nothing special. I had high expectations from their tempura roll, but I was hugely disappointed and never ordered it again. When you dine there, the baked scallop roll is perfect. However, you have to deal with the very slow customer service. One time my husband got really upset because we literally waited 45 minutes for the baked scallop roll and other simple rolls, and someone who came 10 – 15 minutes after us got their baked scallop roll before us. It wasn’t even busy. He had a point, but I was embarrassed by his outburst. I thought they were going to ban us after his outburst! The downfall to ordering the scallop roll to go is that it burns the styrofoam box. I honestly don’t want to eat it after seeing that. It only has happened twice, and I have gotten their sushi several times. The best way I go about this place now is I order to go and pray that the scallop roll doesn’t burn the styrofoam box. If you are not too picky about your sushi, this place does the trick. It will satisfy your craving for sushi, while saving you money.

Honestly I can’t complain about the food or wait. Best sushi in town by far!!! Showed up Friday, 2 days before Valentine’s Day and waited less than 39 min. They aren’t the best at customer service but they get you in and fed fast! Lol And the food would still be worth it even if I waited! My only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 is because I saw one of the sushi chefs touch his phone and car keys from his pocket with his gloves on and not change his gloves… BUT they got an A so don’t worry too much ? Must MUST try: Monkey Brains Mussels Spicy Tuna Crunch(ask for extra crunch) Baked Scallop Roll

Ya know… I’m not the ‘take to the streets’ type. Look at my post history. There is none. I was so ridiculously taken back by how rude our waitress was(in the middle of the day with only 2 other tables) that I’ll make it a point to never come here again. Myself and my lunch partner were looking over our sushi list and deciding what to order. We were debating between a few items and deciding which to cross off the list(we had marked 6 rolls and were going to whittle it down to 4). The waitress came to our table, took the list away and said«that’s enough already. You don’t need more» and walked away with it. I should have walked out. I really should have. First time customer, last time customer.

I would definitely not come here ever again let me start by saying the service was completely completely bad we didn’t even get greeted and she decided to not even give us our menus we had to ask for our menus and she rolled her eyes. We asked for straws and we said thank you, and her response was«mhm» Food came out o my goodness salmon tasted old, salmon was brown I couldn’t finish eating it.

Ok, it’s not that bad. I’m giving just three stars because of service. It takes a while for someone to take your order and even longer to get your food. Unless you’re ordering sushi or sashimi, you’ll have to wait. Food is not bad. Not the greatest either. I’ve had better sushi. But for the price and distance from my house, I can’t complain. And hey, you won’t have to worry about parking.

Wish Unilocal had an option to give negative stars because that’s what this place deserves. Just wanted to grab quick sushi and this place was nearby. They only have one very bad waitress working who took our order, then served the other 3 parties that came after us first. Called her over 3 times and she always said«akay comung» don’t ask me what that means. She never came. I just waited. and waited some more. 30 minutes later she came over, I wanted some spicy mayo sauce. And God lady, was that too much to ask? Did you take a flight to your country to bring it? Did you have to go to a nearby Asian grocery store to stack up real quick that you took your sweet ass time and made me wait 30 more minutes JUST to bring that sauce after I’m already done eating my sushi? Dumb b***, she was in the back just chillin and sh**. Bet you don’t even get just the tip, probably keep the dude waiting for it and say«akay cumong» and arrive when he’s finished. So you don’t get a tip from me either. Never coming back here. You shouldn’t either.

Why the low reviews? Some people are just too picky. You can’t have champagne taste with beer money. You come to shogun for delicious cheap sushi. Just to be honest it’s really good in my opinion. People cry if nobody caters to them personally, but guess what? staff is busy! Duh! If you like people watching while having some beers, sake, and sushi this is the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights.

Warning: I got food poisoning. PRO: — Cheap, and I mean CHEAP, sushi! CONS: — It’s really cheap and that’s honestly why I probably got sick in the first place. I personally ordered: –Monkey Brain(which was recommended by other Unilocalers): It was yummy but after eating my stomach started to act up. –Philadelphia Roll: The raw salmon was a dull. Honestly, if you go here, just get cooked items to be on the safe side.

Their sushi is okay, wish they had more that do not have crab/imitation crab. Service needs a lot of improvement. Place is clean though.

NOTBAD hahaha Although many of my friends had something bad to say when I checked into this joint. HAHAHA I started a new #thursdaysushiadventure around Northridge area. I was trying to look for places with either happy hour or free wi-fi so I have something to do while eating alone… haha When I walked in an older lady greeted me at the front, I decided to sit in the corner of the bar because, once again, I was alone hahha I situated myself in the corner of the bar and ordered, salmon sushi, uni sushi, spicy tuna handroll and seaweed salad. Salmon sushi: solid, you really can’t go wrong with salmon because it’s one of the most popular fish that goes out so it’ll probably be the freshest too. Uni: I’ve had better. but the price was standard. Spicy tuna handroll: not fishy and the seasoning wasn’t overly spicy. The sushi chef was very nice and checked in with me now and then to see how i was doing. I saw that the place was getting a bit busy and the lady couldn’t handle it all at once. I’m guessing that’s where all the service complaints are coming from. I’d have to admit, I give this place a pat on the back for hiring older ladies that speak minimal english. It’s hard to look for a job when you’re older and for them to risk having bad reviews and still hire those in need of a job, these owners have a heart. I’d definitely come by again. OH. don’t get the salmon eggs… just don’t do it.

This place. Never the best rating but always the most convenient. Once as a CSUN student, I loved this place. Now as an adult with a job making me drive everywhere, I have too many sushi places to choose from. FOOD: Will always have a soft spot for their BSCR(baked scallop California roll). This was the spot that triggered the BSCR competition for every other sushi joint I visited afterward. Before Unilocal started, bad service was once trumped by convenience.(Mind you, I was still an underclassmen college student). However. I’ve learned way more since then. Sushi was mediocre. They overdid the rice. Over sauced the rolls. Lastly, the fish could’ve been fresher. Once you’ve tried newer spots. Your old spots are flawed from there on out. A simple case of new dogs learning from old dog tricks. Or in this case, mishaps. SERVICE: Attitude at its finest. Myself or a friend always(unfortunately) had something to complain about: Missing an order, delivered the wrong roll, messed up our check, or forgot something we asked for twice. Come here if you like, just know what you’re coming for. ATMOSPHERE: They renovated quite some time ago and has definitely lifted up some spirits but not enough to have better their service. The lighting is still dim as always but the lanterns are a nice touch. If you are a CSUN student or live in northridge, swing by once laziness or indecisiveness ensues. Or if you need to save gas. Other than that, plenty of other fishes in the sea worth eating elsewhere!(Tons more sushi spots have claimed their stake in Northridge, especially on Reseda alone). Heads up: — Double check your to-go order ALWAYS! — There are new options such as lesser rice, brown rice, or soy paper wraps available — Brown rice sushi/rolls are a good $ 1 more or so — Don’t pay without taking a closer look at your receipt!(Common sense really. But it can be overlooked, so check!)

I’ve been coming here since I was a freshman in high school. Price is unbeatable in the valley. Sushi is mediocre, I’ve never complained or been disappointed. Usually order take out, not a place I’d usually eat in. Usually order out when I need something to satisfy my craving. Service– lets just say, the people who work there are miserable to be there. They ignore you, don’t refill water, & you can usually count on an attitude from your server lol. That’s pretty much the reason for the 3 star review. Other than that it’s a chill place & I will occasionally order take out from here when I’m lookin for a quick fix.

I trustingly sat in my friend’s car as he drove us around the valley in search of food to eat at 10:30pm on a Friday night. A valley boy through and through, he drove us to Shogun Sushi and it looked fine to me until I checked in on Unilocal and saw the 2.5 stars!!! Holy crap, how can any sushi restaurant have 2.5 stars and not be giving people food poisoning?(that was my first thought) But my valley boy friend assured us the low ratings were due to service. We were seated in a booth behind a large group of rowdy guys but they didn’t linger too long. Our food came out promptly, given it was late at night so I have no complaints about the service. I ordered brown rice sushi — spicy tuna, baked scallop and the superman burrito. The superman burrito was very good! The rice on the spicy tuna roll was cold and mushy and the baked scallop roll was a surprising delight. All in all, Shogun Sushi isn;t so bad — but I probably won’t be coming back here, the valley has SO many other sushi places!
