This has been our favorite Asian Café for years. Upon stopping by this evening, noticed they were no longer open, and a notice on the wall said they were relocated to 370 Main Ave: the location of Wild Rice. If so, I hope their chef is now at Wild Rice, he can certainly improve the food as we always thought Wild rice was not as good as Shanghai.

The chicken is crispy and the chunks aren’t huge like at other places. Definitely one of the best spots in Norwalk that I’ve found. The chicken fried rice is really good as well. The portions are huge too. I had the sesame chicken which I shared with another friend and we were both very full afterwards. Would definitely recommend

It’s a little pricey for Chinese food, but you won’t go home disappointed.

Family run place. You will see the whole family working there. The food is consistent and tasty and there is value to it. Must try the tom YAN goong soup. This is our local go to spot for Chinese food.

This is my go-to place when I’m in the mood for Chinese take-out. The value and quality hasn’t failed me yet! And the owner?(woman who’s there most of the time) is really friendly.

I cannot give more than 3 stars. The service is wonderful. very friendly and talked to everyone. +One star. It’s very clean.+1 star Prices are very reasonable. They give you crunchy noodles with duck sauce and these(way too sweet) pickles veggies as a complimentary appetizer to munch on. +1 star. But the food… Maybe it’s me. Maybe I just don’t like Chinese food, or maybe it’s that there’s no good Chinese food around here. It’s the type of place where your food is good. Acceptable but nothing more. None of it is memorable. No stand out dishes. Nothing that will make you want to return here. Very generic Chinese food. You’ll probably feel like crap after you eat here. I’ve been here a couple of times and there’s really no reason to run back. It’s not bad it’s just not special in any way, shape, or form.

I live near this place so I eat there(both dine-in and take-out) pretty frequently and I’m consistently pleased with the food and service. I’m giving it four stars because my girlfriend’s food wasn’t hot one time(although I personally thought it was warm enough, it wasn’t as if it was cold or even room temperature) but I’ve always had great food here. The service is great in my experience and the owners are very nice. In the hierarchy of Chinese restaurants that I’ve eaten from in this area, this is definitely near the top. Try the cold sesame noodles, they’re excellent.

Incredible service. We walked in and my toddler decided to start inexplicably whining and fussing. Immediately the waitress found a couple things for her to munch on and the chef brought her a fortune cookie. So sweet and helpful! I appreciated it so much. On to food — it was amazing! Appetizers were crispy crab wontons & hot & sour soup(which wasn’t too spicy). My husband ordered the walnut chicken & shrimp. I ordered the sesame chicken. Seasoned & sauced well — the portions are very big! Next time we will share an entrée! Will be returning — food and service are outstanding!

Loved the traditional Asian Chinese home cooked food served here. Being far away from home in Asia, it’s a welcome feeling having the Chinese food I got here. Family run business, which also means they give you special attention and will try to tailor the food to your request. Very reasonably priced for the portions, ie large! I wished more people would visit as it is situated the furthest from the main streets. Worthy find.

We ordered 5 main dishes. 2 of them were great, the other three were completely overcooked and tough or tasted like fried water. The food was too inconsistent. I can’t order from here again.

Food here is good and has been solid every time. Clearly family run. For dining in, the area is pretty small, perhaps 5 – 6 tables that seat 4 each. Very good for take-out, but correction — they do NOT deliver(at least not currently). Also, if important to you, they do not accept AmEx.

Comes close to being more than three stars based on food alone, but all other aspects pull it down to a respectable three stars.

Small Family owned and operated Chinese restaurant. I had dinner here, the food was good, had some interesting dishes. The owners are friendly, however, this is a small restaurant so it is crowded, service will be a little slow. The dishes I ordered tasted great and were NOT greasy. That’s main reason for my 4 stars rating. I also saw many take out orders, most of them seemed to be from repeat customers, I can see why.

Decent Chinese takeout. Didn’t care for the broth or the wontons in the soup. Chicken chow mein was okay, as was the steamed chicken with veggies. 2.4 stars, I guess. The great thing is the portions were huge — 2 dishes was actually more than enough for 3 big eaters and the prices are pretty low.

Discovered this place after having dinner at Edo which is in the same shopping area. Ever since then, it has become our favorite Chinese place! We order here quite often and the food always hits the spot! We usually get the chicken with string beans which has a kick of spice to it and the orange beef is very flavorful but not overwhelming.

better than a lot of other chinese places around, they do a lot of take-out business but also have a few tables for people to enjoy fresh food. i had moo shu tofu and it was very good and i dont think i have seen it on a menu anywhere else. a fair amount of vegetarian options to pick from and all the standards too. tucked in the back of a strip mall, if you dont know where it is you will miss it(not in the wal mart plaza, its the next one)

After having lived in Norwalk/Wilton area for 15 years now, i was surprised not to have noticed this place before. It is a bit hidden, next to Edo and Michele’s Pies, and maybe that’s why I never ventured to look beyond those two restaurant. The food was extremely fresh, and much better than other Chinese restaurants in the area. They have a decent dinning area, and a good selection of choices. I ordered the Fish soup and chicken lo mein, both were fresh and came out very quickly. Plenty of parking in front, and is not usually busy.

Hands down best Chinese food. The good: Everything. I used to work at the Merritt 7 buildings and ate here once a week. When i moved out of the area i would travel back just for this place. Recently my girlfriend got a job in the area and i took here here and she got mad at me because I was more excited about the food than her. The Bad: This will ruin all other Chinese food for you. I wish there was one like this where I live now…

As I continue my search for the perfect dumpling in CT, I realized this is one of the few places in Norwalk I haven’t tried yet. I stopped by fairly late on a Friday night and I was the only patron they had the whole time I was there… roughly an hour. I’ll be honest, I found the picture menu a little off-putting and the prices are about on par with what you might expect over in Westport(I maintain that there is absolutely no reason that a spring roll should ever cost more than $ 2). This place has some of the best dumplings I’ve had, here in CT(which is not saying much). I got the steamed pork dumplings, but I’d be willing to go back to try the veggie dumplings too. I’d give the dumplings 3.5 stars all on their own. Other than that, notable things about Shanghai Café: The portions are actually fairly large — the afore-mentioned dumpling appetizer contained 8 dumplings; this is the first place I’ve found in CT that has pork buns(they’re not very good though); I got the chicken pan-fried noodles which were also not at all note-worthy; the service is very good and the owners are incredibly friendly. All in all, if I can’t find someplace else nearby which has decent dumplings, this place might become a common stop for me, not because it’s necessarily fantastic, but because Connecticut doesn’t leave me spoiled for choice when it comes to dumplings.

Can’t believe no one has written about this place yet! It used to be owned by the same people as Village Gourmet(also in Norwalk) but not sure if it is anymore. Anyways, I have loved everything I’ve tried from here. My faves are hot & sour soup, eggrolls, steamed veggie dumplings, chicken lo mein, chicken w/string bean garlic sauce, and chicken fried rice. The chicken is all white meat, something you don’t always get at chinese restaurants! Everything comes out fresh and hot! Prices are reasonable but service can be hit or miss. No one is ever rude, sometimes it’s just quicker than others. Dinner for 2 the other night was $ 25+ tip, and we had leftovers for another meal!
