Rowyton Community Center Dog Run

Clean, lots of room and the dogs and owners are well behaved

I used to be a big fan of this park, but the park has changed and I took two stars off becase of it.
Rowayton does an excellent job taking care of the park. There are always poop bag and the garbages are kept clean. During winter there is some orphan poop but as soon as the weather clears up the people who use the park clean it up. They end up spending time cleaning up for the people who don’t clean up. It is about 1.5 acres big and is fully covered in grass. Each year the park is closed for a period to reseed the park. The majority of the regulars who live near by and use the park are great and a pleasure to see.
The dog park is a single area and the large dogs are mixed with the small dogs. unfortunately some dog owners are not paying attention to their large dogs (often times it is dog walkers who bring in 3 and 4 dogs and do not pay attention to their dogs. I have two dogs a14 pound dog and 20 pound dog. This winter a young husky came over and threw my 14 pound dog down and started bashing her head into the snow. The husky’s owners did nothing I had to push their 70 pound dog off my dog. They did not understand that their dog would have killed my dog if I did not intervene. Last week a dog walker who had a foul mouth and was really lazy had 4 dogs in the park and her lab mix came over and started bothering my 20 pound dog he walked away (over to me) and this dog came over and bit my dog (did not draw blood thank goodness) but bit my dog unprovoked and the dog walker cursed me out for her dog biting my dog. The dog walkers usually show up in the afternoon.
Rowayton needs to create rules for this dog park (similar to what they have up in New Canaan) and they need to enforce them. Once they do that this will be a 5 star dog park again.

This is a wonderful dog run! We moved up from the city and never expected to have something like this in our neighborhood. Compared to what we got in Brooklyn, this dog run is HUGE! There’s so much room for our pup to run around. There’s a self-​filling water bowl which is great for sanitary reasons.
I always find nice people to talk to and have never had an issue between two dogs. I love that its fenced in all around as well.

I like this park. We try to bring our two dogs here at least once a week. It’s big fenced in and on any given Sunday you could find a lot of other dogs. Has a water bowl. People is really nice.

Very large run that is nothing special, but has potential.
Things it has going for it:
— Size
— Good fencing
— Dedicated drinking water for dogs in run

— 2 entrances
Things it has against it:
— Limited Shade
— Ground cover is grass except at drinking area which is large gravel
— No separate large and small dog runs
— Not all entrances are a double gate entry area
— Limited seating
I have been to this park only once and this dog run is big … thats the main reason it got 3 stars. There is nothing much to this run compared to others I have been to. Add a separate small dog run, upgrade entry gates, add seating & shade… this is a solid 4 star run.
