If you don’t have a code don’t waste your time. Office is closed on the weekends and the people aren’t helpful. Rowayton by far better.

I use to take my dogs here, but it seems that some owners coddle their dogs like their kids where they are too over protective. Dogs use their mouths to communicate. Didn’t the trainers teach you that in day 1 of obedience training? The scene is quite cliquish and some people try to steer away other dogs from playing with their dogs. If you want to play ball with your dog, do it at your house; the dog park is to let dogs roam and interact with each other. They’ll sort it out amongst themselves. I know plenty of people who have also stopped going here for the same reasons as well. It’s too bad that this place has become such a nuisance.

This dog park is pad-locked with a code. If you go on the weekend, the office to get the code is closed, and the dog park patrons are un-willing to share it with you. While it looked lovely on the inside, this is RIDICULOUS for a dog park. I have been to many dog parks all over the Northeast and never run into this problem before. If you don’t have the code, don’t waste your time.

We LOVELOVELOVE Spencer’s Run. By far the best dog park I’ve ever been to. Last week we had the pleasure of meeting one of the chairwomen(??) of the park who was very pleasant and asked us how we liked the park, and more importantly how Polo liked it. Spencer’s run is built similarily to the Dog Friends of Stamford Park. Presumably it was the same design company. The differences lie in the environment in how the park sits. Stamford has two seperate runs for both small and large breed dogs, downside is the pen for large dogs severely lacks shade making it an unfavorable option for a summer romp. Also, I’m not sure how much local awareness there is for the Stamford park as it doesn’t have NEARLY the amount of friends as Spencer’s Run. I’m sure I’m not helping by driving the extra 15 mins to New Canaan. Spencer’s run is a VERY large fenced dog run, complete with park benches for owner conversing, poo bags, running water and leash hooks. Here you’ll find everything from Teacup Yorkies to Great Danes romping about. If you’re thinking about getting a dog, it’s probably not a bad idea to come here and scope out the various breeds. I don’t think we’ve ever come here when there weren’t at least 25 other dogs, I think once I counted more than 40! There is also plenty of shade here, which is something the Stamford park is lacking. Many trees line the fencing’s edges, in addition to the one’s existing within the penned in area. They’ve recently switched to dumpsters for dog waste, as opposed to individual trash cans. Thankfully so. Many times I’ve imagined the person who has to wheel giant plastic waste bins full of overflowing poo bags covered in flies to some unknown location. Spencer’s Run is located within Waveny Park which is beautiful on it’s own and has lately been host to Flying Disc Assoc meet-ups and kids performing mini rocket launches. The grounds are beautiful and make for a great place to take a walk.
