Went here for the first time this evening and was pretty impressed. The sushi was delicious(a little salty for my taste but still very good). It’s definitely one of the best options in the area. I got the Unicorn roll with tempura shrimp and spicy tuna on top. My bf got the regular tempura shrimp roll, which came rolled with cucumber. He’s a pickier eater but said that the roll was much fresher and tasted better than the shrimp tempura roll at Tsang’s – I wholeheartedly agree(sorry Tsang’s). As for the noodle dish – I got the Pad Kee Mao, which was spicy and super good. The rice noodles were perfectly cooked and veggies, chicken and shrimp complemented well. Bf opted for teriyaki chicken, which was somewhat of a letdown… I had a bite and while it was good, it was nothing to run home about – a little bit bland. We agreed it didn’t live up to the $ 15 price tag. The service was friendly and very attentive – although it was a Sunday and we were one of only two tables there. The ambience was just O.K. The space was clean and updated, but it was overly quiet and wasn’t incredibly warm or welcoming. Again, this could have been because it was empty. Overall a great meal and we left full and happy. Will definitely be back again soon!

I don’t normally post five star reviews, but when I do, it really must mean this place is special. This place is incredible for their specials, and we were offered off menu items such as the special of that day, fried oreos, and even, salmon belly toasted via blow torch with a special spicy soy sauce. Nevertheless, you really can’t go wrong with any of the menu items. The sushi really never disappoints, they really know how jam pack it in with flavour! With varying textures, and tastes, it really took us down a true culinary adventure. This restaurant really knows how to experiment, and they won’t mind catering to your particular tastes. With that said, cheers for some excellent food!

A small Japanese and Thai restaurant ticked off the freeway. 6 booths and 3 tables with a sushi bar. But what a find! I agree with other Unilocalers a quality family owned restaurant with good pricing. A group from the Chinese temple and two monks was dining when I arrived and added to the family atmosphere. At least where I am from it is average pricing, perhaps lower than average for the greater Boston area. Service was wonderful. Attentive and fast. The chef was fast and I chose the hand rolled. I had the soft shell roll and spicy tuna roll and avocado with salmon roe sashimi. Quality food, wonderful atmosphere and wonderful variety. If my travels permit I will defiantly be back for lunch or dinner.

Can’t even fill a simple order. I ordered four different rolls and got ALLTHESAME!!! Four rolls of spicy tuna… who does that??? And when I called back to add an edamame, they couldn’t figure out which order to add it to. Will NOT bother with this place again.

This is solely based on the sushi; we didn’t have other items on the menu. Would not go back. The good… the restaurant itself is clean and nice looking inside also easy to get to with plenty of parking. The waitress was excellent; very nice/pleasant without being on top of you. Been to Su su sushi and the waitresses are so bad/b!tchy that it ruins it. She was actually the highlight. And the miso soup was awesome. The bad… the sushi itself and the preparation. I had the Nigiri al a carte. 8 pieces of sushi with a tekka maki. The fish itself did not seem like it was sushi grade or it was getting old. It was kind of like when fish is not bad but it’s not fresh and it has sort of a sticky oil on it. This was not a style thing. Not bad enough to send back at all but most definitely not top quality. The rice is a big part of sushi in this case it was a big problem with it. The rice had obviously been stored at least overnight in the fridge as it was cold and hard. I think we may have just come too early as when making the food for a couple of folks that came in later the sushi«chef» went into the rice cooker. The open at 1130 on Friday so didn’t think it was crazy to come in a little past noon. Pretty young kid as the sushi chef which isn’t a big deal but I’m guessing he took a sushi class at quincy college or maybe the real chef came in only at night so showed him a few things to get him through lunch(?). The tuna, which looked grayish, was cut the wrong way. Now i never took a sushi class but this was really obvious. The ligaments were running down it which should not be the case, this made it really chew which is not how it should be. The salmon was OK. The tekka maki had little bits of avocado and tobiko on it… this was because the chef didn’t wipe his knife after cutting the previous roll. Such a basic thing to do it amazes me to not do it but it speaks to the overall care taken in preparation through the whole sushi part of the meal. My wife got the dragon and alaksa rolls which besides the old rice were«ok» but kind of light on the eel in the dragon. Pretty expensive for lunch(with tip $ 50) which would have been easier to swallow if the food was better. I’d probably skip this and either try a new place or go to su su if i was going to drop close to 50 bucks even though the waitresses there are horrible. The pics of the food here look good and true to the meal but the actual taste and preparation was weak. I’d skip it as feel ripped off overall. The front of the house staff were great though.

Had a fantastic meal at Tokio Tora tonight. We have been going there since 1999, when it was Fujiyama’s, now under a different name, but the same hardworking, very kind family. The food is wonderfully, and I really love the new menu. Everything we have tried has been delicious, my wife ordered the Monster Role. it was awesome. If your looking for a restaurant to try a great mix of Japanese, Thai and fresh sushi, I highly recommend Tokio Tora. I also can’t say enough about how nice the owner Flo is. We bring our 9 year old special needs daughter to the restaurant, and they could not be nicer or more accommodating. Love this restaurant!!! Thanks, Sal

I was a little disappointed. The beef negimaki app was okay but the thickness of beef is very very thin. It would have been nice if it was a little thicker. The gyoza were deep fried as opposed to pan fried with the tops steamed. They taste alright but the flavor didnt really cut through the grease except for maybe the black pepper. The thai chicken cashew in pik pow sauce was okay but could be better. It needed more chili paste. The pieces of chicken were starched which I personally could do without.

The best Japanese food my wife and I have found on the South Shore. We’re so happy that a place with such delicious options, consistently good flavors, and easy atmosphere has opened near us. suggestion: they could improve on the interior atmosphere a bit, maybe lower the lights?

It sucks when you are totally looking forward to trying a place. You check their hours to make sure they are opened(because this has happened before when we tried going to Siam cuisine) and you get there and NOPE! They are NOT open like it says they are! What the heck??? So not cool!!! I am totally turned off by this and don’t even wanna come back despite the awesome reviews! Get your crap together people! If you decide you don’t wanna be open one day when you are supposed to be let us know!!!

The food is fresh and delicious. We love eating here because you are treated as family. On a side note I was on crutches at the time and Florence one of the wait staff followed us out to our car and opened my door for me. The entire staff at Tokio Tora are some of the nicest and most polite people you will meet.

OMG!!! Amazing amazing amazing!!! Best sushi ever tried so far! Fell in love with this place after trying their fresh sushi menu. They’ve got Thai menu also. The servers were very attentive and friendly! Will be returning very soon!!!
