Classic and cheap. Second to LaFun(b/c quarter dogs) during those late nights(b/c according to the world we don’t sleep that much). BBQ chicken pizza — YUM! One of my favorites and a great late night snack. Chocolate peanut butter protein shake — Great way to refuel after a workout. I was wondering what it’d taste like without chocolate(b/c it’s almost summer and we don’t really need all that excess sugar), so I decided to try it without chocolate. Don’t do what I did. Just take it as it is. Onion rings –Nice crunch. Although I do wish the batter stuck to the onion rings a little better. Chicken Caesar salad — Crispy lettuce leaves, perfectly shaved pieces of Asiago, and nicely grilled chicken on pita bread. Can’t go wrong here.

For the Notre Dame men and women living nearby, Recker’s is iconic. Filled with memories of study breaks and post late-night revelry meals, it’s hard not to like this place. Recker’s supports a menu of pizza, salads, sandwiches, and piadinas – a sort of half sandwich half taco on soft piadina bread filled with your choice of meats, veggies, and cheese. They also have a solid selection of smoothies and milkshakes. All of the items are somewhat small, and kinda pricey($ 6 – 8 a pop for pizzas and piadinas), but they are done well in my opinion. The pizzas have fresh pressed dough now, and they have a huge topping selection. Service here is spotty, unfortunately. Occasionally I will get a steak and egg piadina for breakfast, and usually the lady Karla working is absolutely delightful. She even offered me(a stranger) to borrow their spare umbrella for the rain. However some of the staff is pretty meh and with the large number of student workers, you always run the risk of an overdone pizza. Overall Recker’s is great for college students – especially those who can use their meal plan points – and probably above average for those traveling on campus. Be warned: it gets crazy packed on football weekends and late weekend nights. ****

Came here again to give this place another shot, still not impressed. At least I didn’t spend as much money this time. This time, I got the broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl, which was the special for the day. Broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl: The broccoli cheddar soup tasted fine. It wasn’t very hot, just warm, which I don’t particularly like for soups. There were large chunks of broccoli. It was a decent size. The bread bowl, however, didn’t really taste like anything. I tried to eat the bread bowl with the soup, until I decided the bread wasn’t really worth eating… I ended up just throwing the empty bread bowl away. I would order soup again, but not in a bread bowl. 7÷17÷14 update: Got the pollo pizza this time for $ 6.35. It was okay. I didn’t particularly like it, but that’s probably just because I don’t like this kind of pizza. It is a good value for me since I can only eat half of it per meal, so this serves as 2 meals for me.

this is actually a review for the south dining hall AND reckers. reckers is nice, but pricey. the south dining hall is nice and pricey too, but the variety is unreal. i have never, ever, in my life seen a collgiate dining hall with SOMANY different items. and healthy items too. furthermore, the place looks like the great hall at hogwarts. without floating candles.

The only reason you should go to Recker’s is if you are drunk and want a pizza or fries or want a milkshake/smoothie. Everything else on the menu is terrible, especially the burgers.

Pretty good. The food is really cheap…(compared to others around campus) but that also means you might want to order two, or a side of fries(which are cheap as well). Went when it wasn’t packed… well… Nearly empty. And I like the big space. Awesome veggie piadina, and the portobello sandwich is great too. Great food. Not the greatest, but great nonetheless.

Ultimate place at notre dame for food, anytime of the day. Never closes either. It’s expensive for college food, $ 10. However, it is the only place open late. Went here a bunch of times with clients since it’s close, convenient and quick. Can get really packed though.

For a college hangout, it’s expensive. I’m talking nearly $ 10 per person for anything resembling a decent meal, and I’m a vegetarian!!! The food itself is pretty good and the atmosphere is decent, although you’d think that ND could cough up for some better TVs on which you can actually watch things. Hmmm. I NEVER go in there on weekends, football or otherwise, because my fiancé and I don’t drink and the place is packed with hungry drunkards every Friday and Saturday night. Hmph. It’s a good place to grab a bite, but don’t count on it as a restaurant. It’s not. It’s a college café.

A campus hangout spot open 24 hours offering late night eats in south dining hall. the better of the 2 dining halls in my opinion. Ditto on it being PACKED like a mother up in this joint on gamedays. PACKED I say! Unless you enjoy being bombarded by what looks to be half of the student body, their parents, grandparents, great grand parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, alumni and tourists, etc. If you have a car, or have a friend who has a car– I suggest you stop by IHOP instead when you’re hungry late at night. Expect an aura of high school in the air at Recker’s, except we’re in college now. I suggest you not come here when it’s that time of the month, you’ll be highly annoyed and tempted to sharpen your little ax. That is all.

Apparently, Reckers is open twenty-four hours now. I wish this had been the case when I was at Notre Dame. I don’t think I would have come here more often, but it would have been comforting nonetheless. My initial attraction to Reckers probably stemmed from the fact that this was the kind of place I always wished my own undergraduate institution, Loyola Marymount University, had had on campus. So when I was a grad student at Notre Dame, I came here a lot – at first. Then I realized that the food really wasn’t all that, and the crowd here just gets annoying. The people themselves aren’t annoying, but for some reason ND students change and become really loud and shallow when they’re inside Reckers. It’s a strange phenomenon. Do not, DONOT, come here on a football weekend. You have been warned. This place is normally crowded. On seven Saturdays per year, it is jam packed and more awful than it usually is. The pizza really isn’t that good, although the sandwiches are good. The tables out front are a nice place to eat, especially if it’s not food from Reckers.
