Special Effects Salon

For some reason, still unknown to me, a review I wrote for Special Effects a couple of months ago has been removed! Maybe it had too many excalmation points in it!! Because this is very upsetting to me, I am writing another review today, so all of you will know what a fabulous place Special Effects is! Whether you need to have your hair or nails done, special Effects is the place to go! I have been going there for about twelve years. Both Adrian and Kathleen been doing my hair/​nails respectively. They are both very professional, caring, honest, fun and skilled at their individual professions. Adrian is most expert in all types of nail services and she does the most fantastic «pink and whites» ever! Kathleen has created a fun, short and spikyfor me. I get compliments on my hair everywhere I go! She also has been my hair colorist for twelve years and it looks great also. I highly recommend Kathleen and/​or Adrian for ANY hair/​nail service you may need! Take my word for it! You will be so glad you did.
Special Effects is actually a 10 in my opinion, but since I can onlygive it 5 stars, I will have to settle for that!

I visited Special Effects Salon on a recommendation. I wanted to get acrylic nails, without filing my natural nail too much, or having very thick acrylic. Specifically I was referred to a woman named Adrian, who is supposedly amazing. Unfortunately, she was not taking on new clients, which was a first for me in the nail arena.
Instead, I booked an appointment with a new manicurist there named Shelby. I mentioned that I was there in search of a thin acrylic nail, without too much filing, and she agreed. The resulting nails were the THICKEST and most misshaped claws I have ever seen. They were horrible, and took two hours to be applied. Afterwards, she had the gall to apologize for taking so long because she was such a «perfectionist». Needless to say I was very disappointed.
This, however, was only the beginning of my unpleasant experience at Special Effects Salon. I called the Salon a few days later, and expressed my displeasure about the nails. Adrian answered the phone, and said that it wasn’t her place to get involved, since I wasn’t her client. This seemed odd to me, since from my understanding she is a co-​owner of the salon. She told me that they could remove them, and I could either have an alternate service for free, or a refund. She then proceeded to give me Shelby’s personal number, and I had to call and repeat this process with Shelby, and I made an appointment to have them removed.
The removal process took an hour and a half, and was painful. I have had acrylic nails applied and removed before, with no problems, but this was awful. Afterwards she offered me a manicure. Since my nails were so badly damaged by the botched acrylic I consented, because Adrian told me on the phone it would be free. My manicure was horrible as well, and my nails were covered with streaky, bubble filled polish. At the end, she told me how much it would be, and I was shocked. I asked if she planned on refunding me the money for the acrylics, and she said she removed them for free, and wasn’t in a position to give refunds because she had no money, and was living at her friend’s parent’s house. I then had to pay $ 25 for my hideous manicure.
I will NEVER come here again, even if I was able to see Adrian. The horrible quality of the services are only compounded by AWFUL customer service, and high prices.
