Love Toast. Gone four times for breakfast and once for dinner. Plenty of options! Ahi Tuna worth the charge on the salads. Breakfasts and teas are good… My friend had some pizza with looked soggy but said was good. Go for the flavored lemonade. The waitstaff is great and will even plate your food if you are splitting meals. Only complaint is that the tables are on top of each other, hope you like eating with strangers!

Toast is a average diner, I can’t say much bad or good. Eggs were slightly over cooked, chicken fried steak seemed like it was not freshly prepared in house. Nice service

This was a Unilocal find and we were glad we found this place. very upscale and food was fast and delicious. I had the sausage, arugula and cheese omelet … and my girl had the salmon and cream cheese omelet. both delicious … a great find… Tyler was our server and made it quick and painless… Thanks Unilocalers

Would give them a 0 if I could. Called before I left to make sure they were open Arrived at 2 :30 at the hostess told us we are not seating people from 2:30 to 3:00 to catch up and start our dinner menu. There hours are from morning till evening and have never closed during the day that I know of. Shame on you for turning customers. Will never eat here again! Poor poor customer service.

Meh. What a disappointment. This place used to be great. Today I ordered the Niçoise salad w salmon. What a boring tasteless dish. Crostini was hard as a rock – I put it aside. No olives? No green beans? One hard boiled egg. Two tomatoes and some slimy cold fingerling potatoes that were bland. No salt? The dressing was also tasteless! Oily but nothing! The greens — well those were fine. Lol. $ 17 salad that tasted like nothing. What happened to Toast? Ugh.

We don’t go often, but found ourselves here last week for Sunday brunch. Of course, line out the door but the hostess promised just a 20 minute wait. Well, 18 minutes later we were seated and presented with menus and water. Service was prompt, efficient and our party of five all received exactly what they ordered, exactly how they wanted it … all good things. I ordered the Chili with eggs — presentation was sublime with two perfectly poached eggs atop the turkey chili and a toasted english muffin on the side. Well, the chili alone would have been a great meal, so when I put the eggs on the muffins a la benedict without hollandaise i was very pleasantly surprised at how tasty the eggs were — deep, rich orange yolks dripping over the muffins. I hardly had a bite when my daughter swiped them for herself… high praise from a kind of picky eater. It is a bit pricey compared to some other places but not overly so; food is fresh, prepared well, and i thought worth the wiat.

A solid choice. The location is easy enough to get to right of 101 and the building is modern and attractive. The décor is trendy and inviting and the menu is varied with so many tasty choices to choose from. I had the fried Fish with french fries and coleslaw and my partner ordered the country fried chicken and eggs. Both met expectations, prepared well and attractive and tasty with fresh ingredients.

Burger is on par, nothing special but nothing wrong. Salads are huge and priced right. Service could be a bit more attentive but understood during lunch rush.

If you’re vegan or have a vegan in your party, skip this place as their options are extremely limited and yet still very expensive. $ 17 for a dish that usually includes salmon which they will sub for grilled veggies but they’ll still charge the same price? That does not make any sense to me. Moral of this story: If you’re vegetarian; skies the limit here. If you’re vegan, the lack of options that can actually wake your taste buds up in the morning is your limiting factor.

Did go here for a lunch today; very disappointed about the choice I have made, the food wasn’t good, did have chicken sandwich, sweet potato fries and garden salad, the salad was old/dry and overpriced the potato fries cold and very soft and the chicken did have no flavor, the only positive feedback is the place is welcoming and the waiter was friendly. Very VERY unhappy with the lady that had us seated needs some serious training in customer service very rude and unprofessional. Hope this helps.

What I love about this place was the décor. The walls had the toast indentations. It was pretty creative. However that’s when it stopped. I thought I’d try their omelettes. Shouldnt’ be too hard to make for a standard American menu. I was disappointed in the Chef’s favorite. The eggs seemed overcooked. It was rubbery and didn’t have much flavor. The meat was really tough as well. Everything seemed like it was just thrown together. I felt like I couldn’t gotten better food at my work’s cafeteria for half the price. Overall, +1 for the décor, –1 for the food. Maybe I got a bad day, but was disappointed in the quality of the food. The service was just average as well. At least it wasn’t bad.

I get free breakfast at my hotel but decided to give Toast a try. Glad I did. Well worth the short drive. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I got the French toast with peaches and side of bacon. Yum!!! Every seat was occupied and waiting list to be seated at table. Solution: breakfast counter. Atmosphere is chatter, chatter from all directions & total busyness but you can see they have this down to a science. So why 4 vs. 5? My initial irritation from the lady calling orders next to me who asked if I came & without letting anyone know because I was sitting there but had no menu. It really was not my fault they ran out of menus and no I didn’t just walk in the restaurant, ignore people ahead of me to choose a counter seat-Dah! Informed her that I was directed here by the lady at the door. She went over to the young lady. However, shortly after that a rather nice waitress told me they ran out of menus — guess that explains it. She quickly provided me with one. Parking lot is full and I’m not sure if this only a Sunday morning occurrence or maybe an every morning event. Well the upside is that at least it’s not on street parking and there’s plenty of outside seating if there’s a waiting list. I got the peach French toast and it was delicious. I still had to endure all the hollering at the pick up counter though. Moral of the story: You’ll have off street parking. There’s seating if there’s a wait. Opting for counter means hollering will be your dining music. But you enjoy a good meal … Bön Appetite!

Why do I associate TOAST with breakfast? Wouldn’t you? I have driven by TOAST many a time in the evening during a pit stop in nearby Peets before heading home and never batted an eyelid until recommended by a friend from the area. Writing a review based on one visit of TOAST is like a drop in the ocean. They are opened all day serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus my review will be amiss if I didn’t applaud the-one-of-a-kind, critically acclaimed décor. To be honest, I was awe stricken by the designer’s originality and the vibrancy the interior exuded. The entryway was welcoming, as I had to mosey past an outdoor seating patio that was chilled by the surrounding sounds of water from a fountain. Once inside, the ubiquitous presence of «toast» was overwhelming. The walls were of blonde wood with crater like cutouts to aesthetically simulate a toast. I was greeted by a wraparound beer and wine bar right smack in the middle of the dining room with an open kitchen to the left, tables to the right and neatly organized wine shelves against the back wall. I wasn’t surprised to hear from Jessica(our server) that the architect won an award for his whimsical efforts. We were here for dinner and started off by sharing a cup of Cream of Potato Bacon($ 4.25). Notice we «shared» and ordered only a «cup» size. The soup was no doubt filling, rich and loaded with calories. There was enough cream and butter to throw your diet off but it was scrumptious! Bacon added a little smoky flavor and of course the inevitable cholesterol content!(4⁄5) Crispy Fried Fritto Misto($ 10.50) was recommended by Jessica as a must try if we were calamari and shrimp lovers. Well, is the Pope Catholic? Our only question was if tentacles were included. Affirmative was her quick response and before long a hefty pile of the golden brown goodies was placed on our table. The calamari was crispy, chewy(duh!), and not greasy and came with a delightful ramekin of coleslaw. Maybe a drizzle of hot sauce would add more oomph to the kinda common mayo based tartar. Shrimps were like shrimp popcorn sans the panko breading and the shrimps were sweet enough I could pop them into my mouth without sauce.(3⁄5) I just love red wine anything. So, Red Wine Braised Short Ribs($ 19.95) did catch my fancy. It gave the ribs a deep, dark red color for a rich sauce and flavor and fall-off-the-bone tenderness. No knife was needed, just a fork. The taste was fabulous with sweet potato mash, almond green bean beans and crispy fried onions. They were the ultimate in comfort food but I was not without a gripe. The short ribs had a layer of fat that was off putting. Fat didn’t bother me as much in my younger days and I remember even loving them. I can’t be too careful now!(3.5÷5) How can I skip Garlic Noodles($ 17.95)? It had every ingredient I can think of in a noodle dish except perhaps crab and lobster! It even replicated a Hong Kong style lo mein dish with a soy sauce sauté. It came with a generous serving of good-sized roasted prawns, asparagus, shitake, chives and parmesan. I thought this was Chinese comfort food but is now American as well. The flavor can be enhanced even more, with a little more garlic, for after all it would keep the vampires away if nothing else!(4⁄5) TOAST was a clever name with a clever design. Located in the Hamilton Marketplace, Novato, it has an extensive menu of American comfort food reflecting their goal of keeping up with the times. Like with most restaurants nowadays, the idea is to bring seasonal, sustainable and local food sources to your table.

Toast is a super cute restaurant and a great little spot for brunch. I love the ambience, the décor – everything. The only reason I didn’t give a higher rating is because our service was less than stellar. When I opened my menu, I knew the vegan options were probably limited. When I called my server to ask her what dishes were customizable, she said: «We have a lot of vegan options. For example, the salads.» That’s the funny thing – everyone assumes vegans only eat salads, but I’ve been to plenty of brunch places where omelettes and scrambles were made with tofu. I asked her if this was possible. «No.» Wow, I sure love one word answers. I then took a look at the salads and a lot of them were very plain without the croutons, the breads, or the dressings. I ordered their house salad anyway along with a bowl of fruit. My boyfriend also ordered a vegetable side for me just in case. The fruit was DELICIOUS. All seasonal and very sweet. The salad was a salad. Don’t get me wrong – I love salads, but I’ve had so many in my life that Toast’s didn’t impress me whatsoever. And our side of vegetables never came. Probably won’t be back just because it isn’t really a restaurant for me.

On a weekend road trip up to Yountville for wine tasting, this was the perfect stop enroute for my group from SF to stop for breakfast. We got a table out front on the patio by their fountain under the umbrella-shade with a cool breeze blowing, already a nice way to start the day off. And so, we all ordered coffee! It was a Saturday morning, you see… For my dish, I ordered their Mexican Benedict: Poached eggs, chorizo, avocado, pico de gallo, on tortillas. I pretty much love anything entwined with chorizo, and an eggs benedict was a flavorful way to mix it up. I recall having a side of bacon and sharing that with the group. I’d say the coffee was effective, too! I’ve been here a few times before as well… They’re pretty good and can get very busy. Was last up here several years back for a friend’s wedding, stayed nearby with my dad, ate(of course) breakfast here. I keep occasionally returning here, so there’s gotta be a reason aside from«on the way to wine tasting» to come here — their food is pretty darn good!

I wish I could give this place zero stars. The SERVICE was TERRIBLE. I went here with my husband for dinner. He ordered chicken penne. Then I ordered a burger. I asked if they could do an over easy egg on it, since I knew their specialty was breakfast. The answer was simply, «no». I asked if they could put American cheese. Answer was«no.» While I understand they may not have something, wouldn’t it be the polite thing to say something like, «sorry, unfortunately that’s not available.» I mean come on. Also, I ask, «can we get the fries extra crispy?» The waiter goes, «well they already come crispy, but okay.» Note: this entire time, the waiter is not writing anything down. All by memory. So we wait. And wait. 15 minutes later, the waiter comes back. Looks at me and says, «so I remembered your order, but I don’t remember yours.» Looks at my husband. He reminds him. No apology again. We wait another 15 minutes. Our food arrives. Soggy fries and well done burger when I ordered medium rare. Holy cow. I return the burger. The waiter asks if I want the fries more crispy. I simply say, «please remove this from the bill.» No apologies, no nothing. So I get up and walk around the corner to Super Duper where I KNOW I can get the right burger with crispy fries. And lots of yummy pickles. I come back to the table, where my husband is eating his pasta. At this point, he is done, so I hand my credit card for payment and wait to leave before eating my burger. Waiter comes back to drop off my credit card. «Here you go.», he says. He even wrote Super Duper on the receipt when voiding not my burger. No thank you, no sorry, no nothing. So no tip. I will never go back here again.

My wife and I went to this establishment with my parents in 2008. The fact that it’d been seven years between appearances tells you something — while the ’08 visit wasn’t disastrous, it didn’t inspire us to return — I’d say it’d been more forgettable than anything else. But we’ve had some good experiences in recent times giving Novato establishments a second chance(i.e. Rickeys), so one recent Saturday we decided to make our second trip. We arrived at about noon, and were shocked by how busy it was. A plainclothes greeter forecast a ten minute wait, which was pretty much spot on. Now I realize that Toast has apparently become very successful, and it certainly is within their prerogative to try to stuff as many people as they can into their restaurant. But there are statutes of limitations — it’s nice to be able to stretch without whacking the poor guy sitting behind us. And vice versa. The utilitarian decorations helped the missus with the«Ikea cafeteria» line — while it was certainly better than Burger King’s interior, it’s nothing that I found welcoming. My wife ordered a hamburger, myself an open-ended salmon sandwich. After taking our order, our waiter disappeared until the meal was ready, some thirty minutes later. We were about one minute from calling what appeared to be the store manager over. The food was ok, but we were both battling food comas a couple of hours later. Final thought: Novato has Mexican, Chinese, and Italian restaurants of varying quality. It also has brewpubs, fast food joints and delicatessens of varying quality. But this might be the first joint I’ve been to which seems to cater explicitly to European Americans, and it doesn’t do a very good job of it.
