Location is now closed and up for lease. They posted a goodbye on their fb page. Khyber is still around though so you can get your indian fix there.

A family favorite and we always try something new. We’ve gone through a lot of the menu by now and, barring one or two exceptions, we’ve liked everything that we’ve ordered. My only complaint would be that a lot of the dishes taste(and look) very similar(mostly meat in sweet yogurt sauces) and the menu could use more more savory dishes. We usually order take out but inside the restaurant smells great. The obvious comparison is with Khyber Pass which is just a few blocks away but they serve very different roles. Khyber Pass has great favorites when you’re looking for a really hefty(if somewhat greasy) Indian meal. Klay Oven is a little more delicate; and as a result its been our favorite since it opened. As some other reviews have noted, services is slow, usually 30−45min to pick up take out; but I take that more as a good sign that everything is prepared fresh.

Great food. I have had the tandoori chicken, lamb vindaloo, and samosas. I wish the entrees came with rice but that seems to be a common theme at all of the indian restaurants in chicago that I have visited.

Our first time here. We took my mother to this establishment for mothers day. GREATEXPERIENCE!!! Food was fresh & presented beautifully in clay pots and sizzling skillets. Delightful flavors and aromas! **Loved the 3 shrimp coconut curry, the jalapeño bread, chicken tikka and rice with peas. Mago Lassi«tasty» great quality just wish it were served chilled.** The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing. Very nice & friendly staff, busboys seem shy because of language barrier but very sweet guys. I called before we went and was told they close 2hrs after lunch to prepare for dinner. I love the concept of lunch hrs and dinner hrs. Ensuring me they prepare responsibly for customer satisfaction. My family loved the experience and we will return.

This place told me and my friend on SEVERAL occasions, that they were«closed for the day», yet their door was open for business. If I had the opportunity, I would give them ZERO stars. Horrible service, unfriendly, and RUDE! Never coming back! Bottom line, Khyber Pass is much better. I am thoroughly disappointed.

Today is the last time I will ever go back to this place. This was the third try and the last. The first time my companion and I came at 8:15 pm, ordered promptly and by 8:55 they turned the lights on, music off and ushered us out. The whole time we felt like we were not wanted there. I understand coming in close to close, but there was no excuse for how we were treated. Tried again last Tuesday for lunch. Walked in at 2pm, and they told us they were closed. They advertise that lunch lasts til 2:30. We mentioned that and a Hispanic man told us basically to leave. Today. One hour ago. We made a few jokes about how if they don’t let us in were going to Unilocal them… well, you guessed it. We opened the door to see a handwritten note that says«not open until 5pm» however there were people inside. This is my first Unilocal review. This place has made me angry the way that they have treated me so many times. Also, where is the owner? All three times we went we were RUDELY greeted or taken care of by Hispanic men who clearly do not want to be there and do not want others coming there. I heard khyber pass isn’t as good, but we walked down there anyways today. and guess what? The way that they treated us was like they wanted us there. And for that reason alone, I would sacrifice taste. Klay oven. Shame on you.

Lamb biryani and matar paneer are always good. Service is good and there’s not usually a wait. Prices a little high like most Indian restaurants but it’s worth it here. They also do a lunch buffet which is great.

Stopped in for lunch today, it was my first time there. We really enjoyed our meals and the price was right. $ 7.00 lunch special with protein, saffron rice and nan. Nice sized portion and served quickly. The butter chicken(think CTM with less cream) was very flavorful. The waiter said the chicken vindaloo was hot and he was not kidding. It was 15 – 20 minutes after eating that my lips stopped tingling, but it tasted great. I did not have any of the issues mentioned in the lower ratings I read, server was friendly and prompt, the food was well seasoned and full of flavor. I’m definitely going to try again and take advantage of lunch special price. The host encouraged us to give their weekend buffet a try, perhaps I’ll do that as well.

Tandoori chicken little dry. Nan was perfect. Good service. Pistachio ice cream good, not too sweet. Excellent vegetable samosa. Delicious Bombay aloo, my girlfriend said. Coming back.

Had tried three times on 2013. Have not tasted recently. Never felt the authentic taste of Indian food. Ambience is good.

The cook forgot to add spices to my appetizer and whatever was missed was added to the main course. So in all it was a terrible experience. Butter chicken is one dish that is difficult to spoil but these guys managed to do so. I asked that my dish be medium spicy so the cook added spices on top of already cooked chicken. Just imagine a sweet butter chicken — I haven’t had any before this, and to make it worse raw spices being added once the dish was complete — the dish was literally hitting the tongue. Spare yourself a terrible experience by avoiding this place

Mmm. I just ate some leftovers. Really good. We had the vegetable samosas. They were huge and maybe a little bland. Then a Tandoori chicken kebab thing that was delicious. Some saffron rice. The spinach and homemade cheese dish. And really the only disappointment was the mango lassi. It was kinda short. The bill was about 50 dollars. Not cheap but the food seemed to be of Very High Quality.

Some food was good(lamb samosas, bhuna gosht). Naan was okay, and other dishes like tandoori chicken and saffron rice were bad. The tandoori chicken was the most dry and flavorless I’ve ever had. Service was absolutely terrible. We waited for our check for 30 minutes. My husband requested no cilantro on any dishes and there was cilantro on 3 out of 4 dishes, but no one checked on us so we had to do the best we could to dig as much of it out as we could. The only time the server checked on us he brought my husband the wrong beer. Again, no one ever followed up so he couldn’t switch it out.

Good Indian food. Small wine list. Unfriendly service. But the food was veryyy good. Almost like costco.

Came here with the wife this weekend. Place was pretty empty at 6pm on a Saturday, but by the time we left, it was all the way full. I had saffron rice and lamb in some king of curry sauce. It was pretty good. My wife had saffron rice with peas and lamb and I believe some soup as well. I think she liked it more than I did. I have no problem with the restaurant at all, but Indian food isn’t my thing. partially because I don’t really like spicy food. However, I did eat all my food. I probably wouldn’t come back on my own, but it was nice to try something new and different.

Yummmmmmm… Second visit here. Both were for carry out, and both were nicely packaged. Lamb Bryani was OK. Huge chunks of lamb! Murg Makhani-this dish was delicious. I could have licked the plate. The sauce is fabulous. Perfect! The channa Masala was good but not the best version in town. The Palak Aloo was tasty and a nice side dish(rather than a full meal). Service was not very peppy, but I was using a groupon for a carry out order. The restaurant is lovely, but I was only there briefly! Will carry out again.

Ordered several items for carryout and all were quite good. Rogan Josh(lamb in spicy sauce), Mattar aloo(peas), bhindi masala(okra), aloo tikki(potato patties), and roti. I got a small serving of rice, which I think came with the rogan josh. The carryout order was packed well and they provided a few sauces, which was a nice surprise(maybe it came with the roti). Only real complaint was that the potato patties seemed a little salty but overall, we really enjoyed everything. Glad to have a solid Indian restaurant in Oak Park!

Devon quality in Oak Park. I miss the Friday/Saturday lunch buffet but the daily lunch specials are very reasonable about $ 7.00 and very good. Quality is excellent. Lamb dishes shine. Basmati rice is also top quality. Highly recommended!

This is my first time ever going for Indian food. Short of what I’ve cooked myself at home(based on internet recipes) I’ve never had Indian food to compare this place to anything. I make good chai… like really good chai with cardamom, star anise, and fresh ginger etc. The chai I had at this place was disappointingly horrible and bitter. Other than the chai, I liked everything else I had. It was pretty difficult deciding what to try after hearing horror stories of how«spicy and strange» Indian food can be. I’m not sure if this place is just adapted for the American palate or if I just like«spicy and strange» but not a single dish I had was bad. My kids on the other hand weren’t too pleased with anything other than… some flat breaded circle things on the vegetarian sample appetizer, at first. I ordered the Garlic Nan and the basmati rice with spinach also. Personally, we didn’t care for either the bread or rice on their own. The rice was a tad spicy for the kids and the bread rather meh. BUT put the rice on the flatbread and it’s golden! ODD, but true lol. We all liked it. I had to order more garlic nan to go with the rice I brought home. The lassi was very good also. Usually for my birthday I like to go Italian, and then pooh-pooh my nose at almost everything I was served because I’m so picky. This year I committed to trying one of the many local restaurants that I’d never been to… before yet another one closed. The plan was to go to Khyber Pass, but I was lazy and this place was closer. The manager was a doll, all the staff members were professional. I’ll be back to try more menu options.

Lamb bryani isn’t good at all. Chicken masallah and butter chicken are better than the bryani. The portion of food is very little.
