Acker & Guerrero Roof Company

According to state records Acker & Guerrero’s licence #610 561 expired as of 01/​31/​2013. My parents had these people re-​coat a foam roof in November 2012. The coating peeled in less than 6 months, and the company has now reformed under the name of the owner’s son and won’t return phone calls (the new company still uses 510−261−7227). Acker & Guerrero was bonded but not insured, the bonding company reports «multiple claims against the bond».

After the unsuccessful attempt, i called Nicholas. They were great on the phone, followed up the appointment with email reminders, and were prompt and thorough. We grabbed a hose and sprayed it on the roof to determine the exact location of the leak, pretty much exactly where i thought it was. They said no problem to patch that, you don’t need to re-​roof, it’s in good condition. One of their guys came in two days and patched it for $ 100.

Acker & Guerrero thought nothing of hard selling me into replacing my entire roof at, like 70 or 80 times that. wow. Nice to know some people still have ethics.

When i contacted Gustavo, he was very prompt in returning my calls and scheduling an appointment time and date. His work ethics are extremely professional. Not only does he walk around the property inspecting possible work to be done, he explains very carefully what needs to be done and why. Acker and Guerrero’s mode of estimates are by far the most comprehensive and detailed i have ever received. Their commitment to their work and customer is prevalent from the time they contact you to the time they get your estimate to you. I was very impressed with the report i received and Gustavo was very accommodating to any last minute requests or queries that i had. Just had our roof replaced, we are very pleased with their service. Gustavo came over and assessed the situation with our roof. It had been replaced in 1994, but had wore out prematurely due to lack of ventilation. We received his quote the very next day via email. The quote was easy to understand, he included pictures, and was very detailed on how to correct the problem. The price was reasonable. We had two other roofing companies come out to give us a quote, and neither of them addressed the problem of the ventilation. When his crew came, they worked very well as a team, covered surrounding areas with plastic, and were conscientious of the mess, they cleaned as they went. Even tho there was damage to existing gutters, Gustavo made it right and replaced them, no cost to us. He was a joy to work with, always got right back to us if we had to leave a message. Would highly recommend this company, Gustavo and his crew are professional and very easy to work with. Love out new roof, and I am sure that this one will outlast the last one. Acker and Guerrero replaced the roof on my neighbor’s house 7 years ago. I got 3 additional bids, but took his recommendation seriously because, as an architect, he works with tradesman and judges their work with considerable knowledge.
Acker and Guerrero gave the most detailed and competitive bid. They returned phone calls within 24 hours, completed the job on time, prepared me for the disruption and smell so I could plan to stay elsewhere. They helped unroll protective plastic, and even suggested a double layer over the piano. They attended to the details of flashings and sealing around skylights. They replaced insulation, and while the bid listed this as an extra cost, they never charged me the extra cost.
There were some streaks on the skylights after they cleaned up. When I called to complain, they sent the owner to assess, and the foreman who used to wash windshields on airplanes. He spent 2 –3 hours cleaning with a different product. I was impressed that they brought the underling who had probably left the streaks — to show him how to properly clean skylights.
They communicate more through snail mail and phone than email. Once I adjusted my expectations to this, the quality of their work far exceeded the small inconvenience. Re-​roofing, in the hands of excellent companies such as A&G, or sloppy companies, takes awhile to set up. It’s best to exercise patience during this process and hire a company who will expedite the work once it begins. That’s the smelly, disruptive part of the process you want to move quickly.
Scheduling re-​roofing requires foresight and responsibility to accommodate the chance of rain. So unless we’re in the height of a predictably dry summer, all reliable companies schedule using approximate dates. The companies that take chances can cause significant water damage to the interior of a house. This happened to two friends who used other companies.

We had a roof leak coming from where we have some skylights in a vaulted ceiling above our family room. It is a section of our roof that the shingles are in the worst shape for whatever reason and looks like it has had several repairs done around the skylights over the years.
I talked to about 7 roofing companies and all but 2 recommending re-​roofing this section of roof and redoing the flashings around the skylights which weren’t step-​flashings (
) and probably the initial reason that the numerous repairs had taken place.
I really liked Dan, the estimator from A&G. I felt he was very honest and straightforward with me regarding options of limited repairs vs. re-​roofing. A&G didn’t have the lowest cost estimate, but I had the best feeling from Dan so went with them.
The crew arrived right on time and they said it could take up to 10 hours to complete. Luckily a window from our garage looks right onto the roof area that needed work so a lot of time was saved shoving stuff through there rather than hauling materials over the top of the house (asphalt shingles are much heavier than they look!) and the work was completed in 6 hours!
The workers were efficient and friendly and eager to show off their handiwork when the job was completed. The lead guy pointed out an area of flashing around the chimney that the estimator thought did not have to be disturbed, but when examined during the job it was determined that it needed to have a new saddle flashing installed so some siding was removed and replaced to do this. No change to the final fee for this extra work.
We went with white shingles (see my pic). You know that «cool roof» stuff you hear about on the news. Hopefully it will help with heat in the summer and best of all it qualifies for a tax credit and didn’t cost any more vs. the other colors they had. Score!
And since it’s on the back of the house, only my neighbors on a different street (who we don’t know) will comment on how tasteless we are with a multi-​colored roof!
OK, in 20 years, when all the other shingles fail, we’ll have a matching roof. Does that work for you? :)

Based on the recommendation from 2÷18÷09, I decided to take a chance and call Acker and Guerrero for my leaking roof. I was so glad I did as they were quick, professional, took pictures, and best of all affordable. I highly recommend this company for roof repair. I would definitely consider them for roof replacement as well

Highly recommended for all of your leaky roof repair needs! These guys have been to a bazillion job sites for me and have always got the job done right– they even take before and after photos and send them to you so you KNOW that they did something! They also call you after the job to ensure that the job has been completed– cant ask for better customer service than that!
