It is hard to compare cardiologists, as very few of us utilize more than one in a lifetime, The office staff is another story, and most have enough experience to compare. Frankly this office is the worst physician’s support group that I have every encountered. Phone calls are not returned. Communications are not passed on to the MDs, and test results are not transmitted to patients. I complained to my cardiologist, and he kindly gave me his private mobile number, Of course I don’t want to abuse this courtesy, and it shouldn’t be necessary to do so. I should add that the people in the testing department are professional, competent and responsive. The problem resides with the communication team. The last thing that CV patients need is to have their stress level raised by non caring functionaries. I would give up on this office were it not for my established relationship with my cardiologist. I would advise looking elsewhere if you are shopping for CV care

Poor response time from the doctors. Dr. Duane Stephens is a brilient doctor but does not return calls and he has become very forgetful in past year.

I’ll go along with Caroline’s review. I’ve been treated by the practice for about 5 years. The staff are probably overworked but, boy, does it show! With a couple of notable exceptions, they’re rushed, borderline rude, and make stupid mistakes, for which they never apologize. I’ve developed the habit of asking technicians to tell me the results of routine measurements that they make, in order to correct impossible readings. The doctors are another matter. Again, with a couple of exceptions, the ones that I have met are caring and professional, so I’ve given the group as a whole 3 stars. PS the street address shown on Unilocal is correct, but the practice is now in the Summit Hospital campus, in Oakland.

I am having cataract surgery on January 13 and 27. I had to have a physical which I did on December 23, 2013 and an EKG by my primary care doctor, which I did. He got an unusual reading on the EKG and called the physician on call at Berkeley Cardiovascular. I was told to call and make an appointment to get a Holter monitor that day. When I called, i got voice mails from the different offices I tried. I left messages. I repeated my calls on 12/24, 26 and 27. No one called back and I never spoke to a human. I called again on 12⁄30. A human called back and I went in on 12⁄31 to get fitted with a monitor. Anne, the technician, was very kind and also horrified by my experience. She told me that there were only replacement receptionists for the phones but that none of them seemed to be answering them. I returned the monitor on January 2, Anne called in sick and the two women whom I saw were perfunctory and borderline rude. Anne had put a «Rush» requirement on my monitor but they were less than interested. Neither woman was wearing a name tag. If I am not able to get this resolved, my surgery will have to be rescheduled and I will be charged $ 200.00. Berkeley Cardiovascular deserves an F rating. I forgot to mention that the technician had not seen the EKG report from Dr. Rothman’s office. It apparently was received by Zoe who did not pass it on to the technician. I asked that it be sent again and directed to Anne. I do not know if she has seen it.
