Closed. The restaurant is now Danang Quan with very unique menu.

7÷2÷2014 — CLOSEDFORRENOVATION. Had a sign in the window. No duration specified. Bun mang vit: Wonderful. Haven’t had it elsewhere but it’s a really nice contrast to phở bo, which I have all the time. Very subtle and tasty. Décor is clean and even a bit fancy. Makes me wonder why they’re renovating. Overall, one of my absolute favorite Vietnamese places in Eastlake, and I’ve eaten at them all.

Everything here is so good! I like that they have a small menu and very friendly service. We got an order of bun beo, goi cuon, bun thit nuong, and bun bo hue. Good quality, great prices, and in my opinion, better than Ao Sen!

«Bun Mang Vit» translates to «Noodles with bamboo and duck» and it’s this place’s specialty. I have to travel from SF, but it’s absolutely worth it. This dish has a lot of ingredients and restaurants that don’t sell enough«volume» can’t afford to make it as authentic the way this place does. Our group has 2 other dishes: vermicelli with bbq pork(bun thit nuong) and porridge, and they were also super delicious. Another review complains that this place is expensive. I suppose it could be if one compares it to $ 5 phở at an average phở house. However, I would hardly say paying $ 7-$ 8 for a «specialized» dish like this is expensive.

Yay! Finally found another delicious Vietnamese restaurant in Oakland. And this one is so nice and clean too. In fact, it may be the cleanest restaurant in the area. Their banh canh cua was full of crab meat and totally hit the spot. I’ve only been here once so I can’t give it five stars yet, but judging by the fact that I ran into an old friend and my cousin who was getting take-out from here, I’d say the food here is legit. I usually eat out for lunch when I’m back home, so this place is now officially in the rotation.

Only place for decent duck noodle soup with garlic ginger pepper sauce in the Oakland-San Francisco area. Will come back again…

Like the goldfish aquarium? Well notice how clean and fresh it looks? I did. and it said something about the place too. Boy. was that very tasty. One of the better Viet places i’ve been too and goes to prove you can run a very tight ship and working smart with your staff to make excellent tasting food. Had the duck and egg noodle soup and WOWzer. it was so delicious. I am not the only doling out 5 stars for this place… as they deserve it… Gotta spring for the thai coffee drink as well. so very tasty and a great condiment with the soup. Coming back… yuppers…

Bun Mang Vit Thanh Da is where Trung Nam Bun Bo Hue used to be on the same block as Thanh Ky. They have mostly soups( ) including some less common ones that Trung Nam had like Bun Mam(fermented fish soup) and Mi Vit Tiem(braised duck egg noodle soup) so I wonder if some of the kitchen staff remained. In addition to the soups, they also have bun(vermicelli bowls), com tam(broken rice plates), chao(porridge) and banh beo(steamed rice cakes ) Duck makes several appearances on the menu with a salad, porridge, ½ & whole duck, and the namesake Bun Mang Vit(duck & bamboo shoot rice noodle soup, $ 6.95) which is what I ordered(no cilantro) along with some Cha Gio($ 3.75). Prices are reasonable with only one item north of $ 8. The cha gio come with a piece of lettuce and some tomato and cucumber slices along with some nuoc cham( ). These came out piping hot and the filling was quite meaty. Other than being in egg roll wrappers instead of rice paper, I liked their version. The nuoc cham was pretty sweet, but the pure nuoc mam on the table helped to tone that down. The Bun Mang Vit is a large bowl with a 2″ cube of pigs blood, about 6 pieces of bone in, skin on braised duck, bamboo shoots, and a handful of scallions( ) and the condiments are a simple mix of sprouts, shredded cabbage and rau ram with a grated ginger dipping sauce( ). I liked this soup! The round spaghetti sized noodles were cooked to a good consistency, had a nice chew, and were not clumping at all. I could strongly smell the bamboo shoots, but the flavor in the duck broth did not overpower things. The duck broth added some character vs. a chicken broth, but was still light, clear, and pretty oil free. The duck meat was soft, chewy, and a little gamey and was especially tasty when dunked into the ginger dipping sauce. Speaking of the dipping sauce, like the nuoc cham, it was also very sweet. Again, some tempering with nuoc mam improved things for me. They should prune the tree out front because it blocks most of their sign from view. If you don’t know where this shop is, you could drive by and miss it.

Thanh Da is a great restaurant. I went there several time. I love all their food, especially Chao Goi Vit, Bun Mam, and Banh Canh Cua. I will recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family.

After Trung Nam closed its door, I tried many other bun bo hue joints. I’m glad Thanh Da opened where Trung Nam used to be. It is as good as the predecessor. The place is still clean and the service is good.
