Chubby Freeze

This is not to be compared with a gourmet burger place, but it is quick and tasty. I don’t eat beef, so I can only vouch for the turkey burger. It is thinner than many, which I like and it fills up the bread. The shakes are pretty tasty as well. The combo is reasonable for the price. This is not the place you go for a sit down meal, but great for a burger on the run. Call in your order and it actually only takes about 10 minutes as they indicate on the phone.

On Friday night flying from L.A., stopped by and enjoyed a good cheese burger combo. :)

This place is definitely charbroiled, no one realizes the fire pit that pre cooks the meat on the other side of the wall. This place is my go to burger place. Love their mushroom steak sandwich. Definitely a must place, place to go before an A’s game or a warriors game.

In the rating of «Meh, I’ve experienced better» it’s directed at Chubby Freeze themselves. It had been a while since I’ve been back. My family had been attending this place since 88 and of recent times, even establishing a rapport with a few people. Coming back after about a year layoff, there’s new staff that barely answers the phone, takes orders over the phone and forgets to push the ticket to have the food ready by the time I got there, and I actually waited two people behind me in line longer to get my order. And the order… just wasn’t the same at all. My chili cheese dog was miserable, like the frank was dipped in a pot next to the chili pot, and we have a drought of cheese. It was all frank and bun. The burger was… meh…and after ordering a burger with no cheese over the phone, then having to repeat the order to the cashier, then having to re-​repeat it slower, there was still cheese placed on my woman’s burger. She had to toss it after all this time. I never felt more time wasted there until this last time. C’mon, where’s my potna at that makes sure things are on point?

The best Turkey burger in the East Bay! My 1^st and last option when it comes to Turkey Burgers. Great customer service!

This is one of the down and dirty place I like in the not so good part of Oakland. The Chub as we like to call it is located on Hegenburger Rd. on the way towards the Oakland Airport. Surrounded by Burger King and Micky D’s, The Chub survives from way before these corp fast foods cam along. You get real food cooked to order and cheap prices. I used to work right nearby and this was a usual lunch stop. Not the cleanest place, just come for the good burgers and fries. Portions of the fries are huge! Get a taste of the real Oakland and come to the Chub!

Totally worth it though.

this place is overpriced and has rude employees that barley speak english. i am never going back to this place. oh yeah jesus the «manager» super rude, the only reason that i got the food anyway is because i was already 15 min. into to my 30 min lunch. nasty s%$#

Fish and Chips UPDATE– It had been awhile since I ordered the fish-​n-​chips. They used to be a good fish fillet with a nicely fried breading… BUT… got some a few weeks ago, and they are now triangle patties, with some horrible coating on them… Fish-​n-​Chips now one star. Burgers and shake still great. Ok, yeah it’s a bit divey, but it’s a local independent place where I would rather leave my $$ ;). Shakes rival any place I’ve been to! Fries are great and always fresh made. Lettuce is real, and not the shredded mess from the chains next door. I’m a big fish and chips lover, while I’m sure it’s frozen, it’s still pretty damn good. The only minus points, are that they are sometimes out of malt vinegar.

Wasn’t really feeling the service seeing they have new people since I have moved and they are loud and a bit rude and the food was not great either as usual. Was my favorite place but may have to consider finding a new burger place.

First time I tried this burger place and I really liked it a lot. I will definitely take my friends and family to try burgers there. Btw, I loved the pastrami burger with fries and would like to try other menu next time.

The sign Says «charbroiled» however, the burger patty is sent through a broiler to obtain grill marks and then it’s placed on a dirty grill where the cook beats the hell out of a ¼ inch thick patty with a spatula.
The cashier accepted som cash and then immediately went to the freezer and returned bare hands carrying some chicken strips. She placed them in a deep fryer and took another order. Never washed her hands!!! Can’t review the food because I trashed it after watching the non sanitary practices!

Always good! Great spot to stop and have lunch in the town. Service is good and always plenty of fries!

Frozen hamburger patty I believe. Extra for cheese for an already overpriced frozen thing. Just not worth it. The service is friendly enough I suppose. I won’t be back though. Too many other places to try and In and Out is definitely better.

This place has wonderful foods & I love the fries like they made when I was a Kidd! One of the best burger reminds me of the old foster freez. Have a cone before you leave is a must!

Went to Oakland on business and wanted to try a local place. Was definitely happy I took a chance on this one. DELICIOUS milkshakes. They have a ton of flavors and let you mix them. Burgers are made with real meat, definitely better than the mcdonalds next door. Plus, helping locals always makes me feel good. They give you a ton of fries too. Only issue is they don’t accept credit cards which I understand for the area, but he let me run mine since I was out of town on business and I was still dressed up! Very nice, only waited maybe 5 minutes. Highly recommend. Don’t be deterred by Oakland’s reputation, it’s a nice place so long as you don’t go out when it gets dark and act like a fool.

I was staying at the Days Inn nearby and I was hungry so I figured I would give this place a try since I read some good reviews about them. There wasn’t any customers in there, maybe it was late at night.
I ordered their pastrami sandwich and when I took it back to my hotel room to eat it, I found the pastrami was alittle chewy, not sure how long they have been there. I have had better pastrami sandwich from Subway. Maybe I just ordered the wrong item, but if this place is that good, then all of their items should be good. I probably won’t go back there again, I would go to In N Out down the street instead if I want some juicy burger.

Came thru for lunch to feed my burger craving.
The Cheeseburger and Fries (4 stars each) were just as good as they were my first time here.
This time, I got a cup of Chili (4 stars) too. You can tell you’re not eating gourmet chili, but you really DGAF cuz it’s that good!

Chubby has been around a long time. now it’s staffed by amigos et al.
menu: mostly burrger and variants, hot dogs, chik nuggest, and drinks.

–was assured they can cook burger medium rare, came almost well done or med. at best.
–also tomato, lettuce, .little taste except salt.
–fries not crispy, not fully cooked, mushy inside, lots of it.

I was hungry for an Old School Steak Sammich. I was cruising my Work Whip in the ghetto so I figured Chubby Freeze. I rolled the Work whip there blast Aretha Franklin damn that woman can wail.
I parked right in the lot and rolled into Chubbys. I ordered the Steak and Mushroom Sammich with everything on it and Steak Fries and a Soda. It was under $ 10.
I sat down and started watching the TV in the dining area. Another diner started talking to me while I was waiting. His name was Cornelius and he was breaking down the Economy and Investing.
My food was ready in 15 Minutes. The Steak Sammich was quite good and the fries was a generous portion.
Definitely a hidden Jem in the Urban jungle.
I rolled away in the Work Whip to Chaka Khan and she was wailing also.
