i love this gym! the community is awesome. very approachable and knowledgeable staff. very spacious facility! and of course, they continue to add amenities and equipment as they grow. they are constantly communicating with their clients, making sure the box/​programming/​environment is at its best. and oftentimes, if you message them about open gym, a very responsive coach will flexibly open its doors to accommodate your schedule. Kid-​friendly! Dog-​friendly! lots of free parking! LOVE!

The community at Power Grid is the definition of what it should be like: supportive, friendly, accepting, and encouraging. There’s a perfect balance of challenge and goofing off (let’s be real: Crossfit is HARD sometimes. If it isn’t fun, who wants to do it?)
The place feels like Cheers — everybody knows my name and I’m always greeted with the equivalent of «wassup Norm!» — minus beer plus handstand push-​ups. Except on movie nights when we BBQ and have beer.
Just as importantly, I’m continuing to get stronger and faster and leaner and better at stupid human tricks like muscle-​ups and handstand walking.
The coaches listen, the space is huge, the equipment is new and constantly growing, and there are a bunch of new-​to-​Crossfit folks so beginners have a crew to grow up with.
Stop by, give Bailey the gym dog a scritch behind he ears, and stay to move heavy stuff until you can’t stand up. You’ll go home smiling.

I love this place! The space is one of the best boxes I’ve ever worked in — it’s big, bright, and open. All of the equipment is brand new and they are always getting new stuff, so skill development is a high priority.
To me though, the best part of Crossfit Power Grid is the coaching. Clyde, Myriah, Caesar, and Mateo are all top-​notch. Danny runs the oly-​lifting classes and will help you soar past your PR.
Between the changing warm-​up, the focus on mobility, and the awesome community present in the box you won’t be disappointed if you make CFPG your home.

Crossfit Power Grid’s open floor space gives athletes the freedom to their own Crossfit experience. This box will accommodate the complete athlete, whether you want to participate in one of the highly competitive classes which are scaled and malleable to your fitness level, take some extra time before, during, or after class to work on mobility, gymnastic movements, and/​or olympic lifts, or enjoy the inspiring people who share your passion to sweat. The fact that I am able to work on my own after a class WHILE the next class is taking place is truly unique to CFPG and has lead to numerous firsts including mobilizing enough to tap into strength I didn’t even know was there, cycling through butterfly pull-​ups and muscle-​ups, and hand-​stand walking to success. Programming at Power Grid seems to always push me and the other athletes to and just past our fitness threshold. It fuels the competitive drive I lost after college and makes for a core group of members who can really push some weight around. If you are ever in Oakland and need to get your Crossfit fix, Power Grid is doing amazing things so don’t miss out!

I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2008 and coaching all levels of CrossFit athletes since 2010. CrossFit is a sport you can do for a lifetime. Learning to do it well and adopting complimentary lifestyle habits makes it all the more fun and safe and allows to you keep progressing. The trainers and owners consistently focus on teaching excellent movement patterns and are committed to ongoing athlete education (diet, mobility, Olympic weightlifting and other specialized programs) so that people can get the most out of their CF experience.

Conveniently located, plenty or parking, and really good coaching staff. CFPG is close to BART and off the freeways for easy access. You’re hard-​pressed for an excuse to not come in the morning or evening for class. The space is huge with plenty of rack space on the rig and floor space for all your crossfit shenanigans. It’s a new box so there is plenty of growth happening, but the coaching team is super committed to creating a quality fitness program.
If you’re new to crossfit, swing by and have a conversation with a coach and some of the members. We don’t bite. We just want to sweat it out. Experienced crossfitter? Swing by for a drop-​in, you know how it works. The community here is pretty awesome and we find every excuse to break bread together and crack open a few beers for the non-​paleo folks.

First of all, I love Crossfit. I love it for two primary reasons; the people and the intensity. I could easily go to some of the more commercial gyms, pay a fraction of the price for member fees, but I know for certain I would not get what I get out of Crossfit.
Previously I had been a member of another CF location, but because they were often changing the schedule I was unable to maintain the routine that was best for me, eventually I was only doing open gym and feeling like I was just in the way. The owners failed to make everybody feel valued, cared for and respected. So, I left CF for about a year and then realized how much I missed it.
I recently decided to drop in for a class at CFPG and was pleasantly surprised to see many familiar faces, a much more hospitable environment and great, friendly trainers. After my first workout I felt the old familiar soreness, oh, how I missed it. Just a bit of pain to remind me that I have pushed myself. After my drop-​in I decided it was time to return and I am again a member.

I love this gym. The classes are great — workouts have great variety, state of the art equipment, and never too many people. The coaches really seem to care about you getting better and it’s right across the street from West Oakland BART. Highly recommended!

The coaches here are top notch and very knowledgeable, I’ve seen all the coaches take time to work one on one with athletes on form and technique. I love the community here, everyone is so motivating and friendly. The facility is pretty big with lots of new rogue equipment and the ownership really cares about building their members and making sure that every member is taken care of. They’re also not picky about open gym times which is great if you want to get some extra work in after a wod.
Plus! They have plenty of parking which is great, I’ve had to fight for parking at other boxes (gyms) after work and frustrating to try and make a workout and then spend 20 minutes finding parking. They’re also a block away from west Oakland BART so its friendly to those who commute to and from the city and want to get a workout in after work.

I can’t say enough good things about this gym. The facilities are amazing with plenty of room and lots of fresh air. There is NO intimidation factor and any one of the members will offer to lend a helping hand if someone is in need. I’ve been to a few gyms in the area and none compare to this one. The owners/​coaches are patient, keep a watchful eye, and mix it up so nothing ever gets stale. On top of being the place i work out, the members have quickly become my closest friends. I used to dread going to Crossfit because. well. it’s hard. But because of all the love and support at this place, I wake up and look forward to seeing my friends and getting in better shape.

CFPG is a great gym in a great location. They’re located, LITERALLY, across the street from the West Oakland BART station. And I’m using the term, «literally» in the grammatically correct way — not like, my quads are LITERALLY gonna fall off because the squat-​cleans this morning were so heavy and I totally hit a PR. *cyber fist bump*
The warehouse space is awesome. It’s open and spacious with high ceilings, tons of racks, space to lift and a turf to do sled pushes and indoor sprints. Equipment is plentiful as well so we hardly run out of things even during full classes. The coaches and owners do a great job keeping the place clean and well organized. The equipment is pretty sweet and all still brand new.
The coaches are all super friendly, funny and eager to work with members to have fun classes while putting in work! Every class I’ve attended has had 2 coaches teaching/​watching so there are always eyes on every member.
My favorite part of CFPG is that the coaches/​owners really listen to members, ask for suggestions/​recommendations on how to improve the gym’s space and they actually act on it, quickly too! They are very receptive to suggestions and they appreciate feedback. It makes members feel like they are really apart of the gym community and not just a number in their books. The gym is also dog, kid and unicorn friendly. You should definitely drop in and try a class. Literally.

In a word, crossfit power grid is amazing. The vibe here is so cool it’s hard to put words to it. People work their butts off, support each other, and find time to make an amazing community! There is no judgment for new members, and everyone is welcoming. The trainers are awesome. Most of all, the workouts are great! My wife and I have gotten fitter and stronger in front of each others eyes! It’s WALKING DISTANCE FROM BART also, which makes it insanely convenient.

CrossFit Power Grid is awesome! The team of coaches and owners are friendly, energetic people and they have created a fantastic facility for athletes of all skill levels. The workouts are tough but fun, and the entire atmosphere makes you want to come back again and again. They’ve got all the latest, brand new equipment and tons of parking as well as easy access to BART. Everyone should stop by and try it for themselves!!!

This place is amazing! I am not new to working out, but I am very new to CrossFit. I was totally intimidated to start CrossFit. It seemed like a really hard workout that was pretty complicated with lots of heavy lifting. Well, just one workout at CrossFit Power Grid put my worries at ease.
Yes, the workouts are totally hard; BUT, the coaches are amazing and truly make each workout an enjoyable experience. Everyone from the coaches to the other members are extremely welcoming, helpful and not at all intimidating. The coaches here are really great about breaking down movements (for newbies like myself) and training to all levels. Even though they are probably laughing at me in their heads (I’m sure I look ridiculous), I feel nothing but support and encouragement. :)

2) This is *the* best crossfit gym in the bay area.
I’m lazy AND out of shape, but got pressured into it by my roommate. And within just 2 weeks of crossfit, I: feel fantastic every day, have lots of energy, and no longer have allergies (no longer have allergies!!!), and find it very easy to come to class every day. Partly because crossfit is awesome, but mostly because the owners/​trainers at CFPG are amazing.
I’ve had friends try crossfit at other gyms in Oakland and bail because they felt out of place or didn’t get the attention from the trainer they need, or just didn’t like the vibe. The trainers at CFPG are incredibly helpful (especially important for a beginner like me) and definitely know how to explain things really well while pushing you to do your best (they’re crossfitters to the core). Everyone is SO welcoming and friendly which is definitely something I haven’t experienced at any other gym. They even helped me figure out nutrition! I’ve heard that getting in shape requires changing your lifestyle. Crossfit at CFPG is the only environment where that even seems possible for me, HIGHLY recommend it to everyone.
TIP: it’s right next to West Oakland BART which is a major plus
