Cupcake Cove

LOVE cupcake cove!!! It’s conveniently located near my work. They have $ 2 cupcakes on Tuesdays and sometimes they have $ 1.50 one day old cupcakes. Some of our favorite flavors: chocolate, red velvet, strawberry, salted caramel.
The one thing that’s consistent about this place is that their cupcakes are always moist, even two or three days later.

Terrible customer service! I tried to order a cupcake delivery for a friend and never heard back from customer service. I called to see if I could get some sort of a confirmation and the man at the store was extremely disoriented and asked me to call the SF location instead. When I called SF, the manager also seemed to be confused, saying that orders sometimes go through spam. After I gave him my order number, he managed to find the order, but said that he had emailed me back. I checked my email (including my spam folder) while I was on the phone with him and said that I hadn’t gotten any response. He then told me that they couldn’t deliver because the address was too far away. I mentioned it would be helpful to customers if they posted any delivery radius restrictions on the website, and he responded «well I emailed you.» After ending the call in which we cancelled the order because they couldn’t deliver, he emailed me, saying that he had previously emailed me at X time. I do not appreciate receiving unprofessional emails like that, following up with me to presumably prove a point when we no longer have any business.

very small cute shop in Oakland. They had plenty of cupcakes for the Tuesday $ 2 special. The mint cupcake and the salted caramel were good. not great, for $ 2 though they were a steal compared to other specialty cupcake locations. For the price they are worth the trip, but for me, only on Tuesdays. Super friendly staff that was very helpful and patient at my indecision. Thanks guys!

Glad to see updated hours now state the shop is open 11 – 6. The cupcakes are delicious, whether they’re day-​olds or freshly baked. The macaroons are perfectly made — crunchy on the outside, yet soft on the inside. They are quite sweet, though. I don’t recommend eating an entire cupcake followed by a macaroon. It seems like a good idea, but you will regret it.
$ 2 Tuesdays are still great; but you’ll be choosing from a smaller selection of flavors.

If you’re looking for macarons in downtown Oakland, this is the spot. I sell them for $ 1.50 each on Tuesdays and Fridays, normally they are $ 2 each. I switch up the flavors often also!

I got a red velvet cupcake. It’s very very red! It’s soft and moist but it’s not worth 3 bucks! It’s above average.

This will be my shortest review ever. Tiny little store with a tiny selection of cupcakes. The girl was nice, but nothing vegan so left. Sorry.

Oh Cupcake Cove, it’s been awhile since we’ve last met, and after much deliberation decided to return and try you once again. Although I still believe the only day worth visiting you is $ 2 Tuesday because they’re so pricey, I’m glad I was able to give you a second chance.
First off– If you’re coming on $ 2 Tuesdays, don’t walk in expecting the freshest cupcakes you can get. The selection offered are day olds.
I ordered a Red Velvet Cupcake and was quite pleased. For a day old cupcake, it was still surprisingly very moist and the cupcake wasn’t overbearingly sweet, it was the right balance of sweetness in the cupcake. The last time I was here I had the Passionberry Guava Cupcake and the cupcake base was a tad dry. I realize depending on what you choose out of the selection, the cupcakes can either be a hit or miss. But I definitely would highly recommend getting the Red Velvet cupcake, it was moist and definitely worth trying!
Still love the packaging, it’s quite adorable and fits the cupcake nicely, so if you take your cupcake to go you don’t have to worry about having the cupcake explode everywhere.
The people working over the counter are extremely sweet and friendly. As I paid and was getting my change back, the person helping me accidently ripped one of my bills handing it to me and immediately went back to give me a fresh new bill. They were extremely kind and apoligized for their mistake. Very kind ambience and customer service!
Overall I would come back if I was ever in the area and if it was $ 2 Tuesdays. However, if you’re expecting to have the greatest cupcake you’ve ever tasted, although this place is a slight mark above average, it definitely isn’t the best you’ll ever have if you’re a huge dessert fanatic. However, I definitely would be open to trying the different selection of flavors and hope it was as moist and delicious as the Red Velvet!

I was walking past and found out it was cupcake Tuesday. All cupcakes are $ 2 so obviously I needed to try…4. I’m not a cupcake connoisseur, but they were good. I got two double chocolate, red velvet, and peanut butter. Best cupcakes I ever had? No. But still good, not dry, and flavorful. I would go back again when I’m craving something sweet!

When I spend more than $ 3 for a SMALL cupcake, it better be so good that I fantasize about it for days. There should be flashbacks.
This is NOT the case here. Not even close sadly. I had looked forward to trying this place for months. Having seen my co workers come back with these cupcakes, and drool over them like they were better a than paid 3 day weekend.
Salted Caramel: BLAND, tasted like a boxed vanilla cake mix. The frosting wasn’t overly sweet which I am grateful for, but it still lacked flavor. Overall it wasn’t even close to what a Salted Caramel cupcake should taste like. To make matters worse it was DRY as sand. It just kind of, crumpled.
Mint chocolate: Again the cupcake itself tasted like boxed. It WAS however moist, even sticky, which I like in a cupcake. The frosting had a very DISTANT mint taste… distant like my possible relation to any iconic figure in the 1800’s. As a matter of fact, I didn’t taste the mint till I had swallowed it. Again though, the frosting wasn’t super sweet, something that I also enjoy.
Now, I did love how sweet the counter help was, the containers designed for cupcakes with frosting on top. I also like that I will never feel the need to go buy them out, rent a hotel room, and hide out with just the cupcakes, a gallon of milk, and a bottle of insulin.

Needed some cupcakes for a work meeting, walked in and there were plenty for me to choose from. And it turns out Tuesdays cupcakes are on sale… woohoo. (I believe it was $ 2 Tuesdays, but don’t quote me).
The cupcakes were moist and the icings were good. I heard good reviews from everyone at the meeting!
Very small place though, only room for a couple people in there! Luckily no one else was there when I visited.

Worth it on $ 2 Tuesdays. I’ve tried their chocolate, vanilla chocolate, and guava to name a few. I haven’t come across a cupcake where I enjoyed both cake and frosting combo. It’s either one thing or another — too dense, too sweet, too tart, etc. However, for $ 2, I don’t mind occasionally picking one up; given my options our limited around here.

I like stopping by here on friends’ birthdays to grab a quick cupcake (or four). The owner is very friendly. They have a Tuesday special where they are only $ 2! I’d say that they have pretty basic flavors; Vanilla, Chocolate, Vanilla with Chocolate Frosting, and then the slightly-​but-​not-​really adventurous flavors like peanut butter, coffee, red velvet, and coconut.
It doesn’t hurt to check it out. If you like nibblin’ a little afternoon delight.

Cupcake Cove seems to lure me in on Tuesdays, for the $ 2 cupcake special. (I have no idea if this is any cheaper than their regular prices, since I only stop in that day of the week) Being conveniently located by the row of government buildings (federal, state, city), the store probably gets a lot of people like me, on their way to the BART station or on lunch, looking for something small and sweet.
So far I’ve tried the coffee and the guava passionfruit cupcakes. The coffee was really good and the guava was acceptable, but nothing to write home about. Their cupcakes are less aesthetically pleasing than others I’ve had and the cake is a bit drier, but they hit the spot. That, and there are no other bakeries steps away from the office, so I guess I’m an easy sell.

I’m surprised by the sub-​par reviews. When Cupcake Cove first opened, bf stopped by and brought red velvet and coconut cupcakes home after work. We had them for dessert that night and they were both pretty good. The cake wast moist and the butter crème was fresh and not too sweet.
Soon after, I stopped by CC when I was in the area. The store was really cute and the staff was friendly. I picked up a dozen cupcakes to bring to a party. My friend had requested all chocolate variations, so I went with the chocolate/​chocolate, chocolate/​vanilla and mint/​chocolate. They were a hit at the party. I tried the chocolate/​chocolate and thought it was decadent and again, the cake was moist. I haven’t been back since, but I hope the cupcakes are still good as my previous experiences.

It has been over three months since I had a cupcake from Cupcake Cove. This afternoon (3:10 PM), I decided to give the place one more chance by sampling their wares for improvement. The cupcakes on display were coconut, coffee, chocolate peanut butter, black bottom, strawberry, mint chocolate and red velvet. I ordered one coconut and one coffee.
The coconut cupcake was dense and dry. The tiny cake itself lacked a coconut flavoring. It was basically a yellow cupcake with a hint of vanilla flavoring. The icing was stiff, sugary sweet, and all the coconut flavoring was in the icing itself.
The coffee cupcake was also dense and dry. The tiny cake itself tasted exactly the same as the coconut one — hmmm… must be the same cake batter used in both these cupcakes. Again the coffee flavoring was in the sugary sweet icing.
Sad to say, and it is unfortunate… these cupcakes were a disappointment and there was no improvement from the last time. These cupcakes were so dense and dry that they reminded me of the lemon flavored cake that one of my aunts used to bake… enough to give anybody the hiccups. Now I have half of the coconut cupcake and three quarters of the coffee cupcake sitting in its container left in the fridge. If my hubby doesn’t eat them leftover cupcakes by tomorrow evening, they will be going into the food compost bin… no bueno.
Whatever happened to creativity and innovation? I mean, can’t they make a piña colada cupcake with a coconut flavored whipped cream icing and topped with a sprinkle of crushed pineapple or a pineapple tidbit? How about changing the flavor of that coffee cupcake to a mocha chocolate cake base and a hazelnut coffee flavored icing? Maybe even a chocolate cupcake with a creamy hazelnut filling and topped with mocha coffee flavored icing?

First time? Yes.
I had a chocolate cupcake with coffee frosting topped with some kind of caramelized nut (?). It was so-​so. I enjoyed the frosting because it wasn’t that sweet, but the cupcake itself was dry. It tasted like an out-​of-​the-​box cupcake. Also, the flavors didn’t blend together; it’s like I was eating two separate desserts.

Heard about cupcake cove. since few cupcakes venture thru oaktown, i couldn’t pass them by. .
eats: coffee cup cake (3) amongst about a dozen flavors.

There are virtually no cupcakes to be found in this part of Oakland, it’s super rare to find one in the surrounding cafes and bakeries. People are raving about the convenience of Cupcake Cove’s location in the Oakland City Center and I fear that is the only thing to rave about…
I tried their red velvet and it looked just like a store-​bought cupcake from the grocery store — hard and super sugary-​frosting.
