I started coming here in hopes that the kids could have somewhere to skate in a safe environment. We’ve gotten that plus much more. The park is full of volunteers aiming to upkeep and constantly improve the park. Evertime we go there’s a new ramp in the works. The skaters that frequent there encourage others and form bonds with fellow skaters. An extremely positive vibe is constant here. Climb through the gate, check it out and have some fun.

Come to enjoy what nature gives you with a little intervention from Man. They have such a lonely park

Great community pool. The facilities are basic(hey you can’t expect a luxe experience when you pay $ 5 to get in). But it’s heated, not crowded, has lifeguards, is great for lap swimming. Yay.

are you kidding me? a pool this nice right down the street from my house? outside, in the sun, plenty of lane space(usually), lovely mural made by a cook woman and great kids and a little bit of concrete to do yoga. what more could you want? ok– the locker rooms could be improved, the showers kind of suck, a little grass to wiggle your tootsies in would be nice, a handicapped parking spot or just parking in general. but jeez louise– it’s a wicked nice public pool in west o that is staffed by some great peeps.

A nice park, with plenty of space to set up a picnic, toss the ball around, and have a good afternoon.

This pool is a lot like Temescal Pool. It has less grass but more sun.

LOVE their daycamps. Cant say enough about how attentive and practical and inclusive the staff is. I just wish they took smaller kids during the summer.

My normal, beloved pool, Temescal, is undergoing repairs. So we’ve been shuttled here. Not too far to get to– can take the 980 to 18th st exit. Another depression era example public works; another great thing in Oakland. Shallow end is shallower than Temescal– watch it when you plop in unless in the deep end. A lovely pool that needs a little TLC. 33.33333 yds as others of its era, and not über chlorinated like the Y. Feels little warmer. You’re apt to hear more car alarms and EMT sirens going off in this part of town. If you drive, leave things in your car(or not) accordingly. Bring flipflops, the locker room’s a litte dingy(just doesn’t get cleaned as often). Neat ol’ fixtures from days of yore. Soap, showers, etc. And bring a watch or not care about time. There is a clock, but it’s for timing laps, not telling time. Not crowded at all.

I like DeFremery but I must admit, i have yet to take advantage of all that DeFremery Park has to offer West Oakland. The company softball team plays here each summer. The outfield has good grass and the infield is pretty well-maintained. Plus, parking is a cinch. Just don’t park along the outfield fence– might get your window smashed by my killer homeruns that clear the fence! The kids at the outdoor pool always look like they are having a blast and I’ve been meaning to check out the pool this summer, as I can’t get in to Laney anymore. There’s also a recreation center housed in the Victorian home located on the park’s eastern side. More review info to follow soon!
