I had the pleasure of visiting DeFremery Park this summer. My youngest son got his first job working with children there. My son, Manny had orientation there, and being that he is spoiled and not yet ready to let go of the apron strings, he asked me to go to orientation with him. So my son, my grandson(who is 2) and myself headed out to DeFremery Park. While trying to park I noticed that there were a nice amount of teens present without their parents, so I explained to my son that he would have to go at this alone. It’s not a good look to have your mother to be present at his orientation but I did assure him that i would hang out with his nephew and wait on him. So there we were my grandson and I touring the park and finally settling in at the playground fixtures. We even met another parent there with her own 2 year old. We swap stories about potty training, eating habits, and a host of other shares and concerns concerning the average 2 year old. Since most of my children are grown I was able to share some of my mommy experiences with her being that her 2 year old was her first. Needless to say we ended up exchanging phone numbers and my grandson met a new bud. Even though I have been back there several times since then, there is always something new to experience. Nothing beats the first visit because that initial visit offered some great memories. As a matter of fact I took my grandson there for a special good-bye visit for his family have since went back home to Las Vegas and all I’m left with are the memories of how much he enjoyed DeFremery Park. I will never forget his infectious smile, the sound of his laughter and that twinkle in his eye all while romping around the park area. Being that I am a nature buff and enjoy the sounds and smells of nature, I find my self on occasion visiting DeFremery just to be in the mist of nature and to reminisce about times gone by. I have also added DeFremery Park to my own personal list of bay area parks I favor.

Today was our first time going to this park. The toddler swings are ok a bit squeaky and rusty around the bolts. My daughter liked the slides and walking up the play structure stairs. Overall it’s a good park if you want to get the kids out the house & play. I just wish the city had extra funds to update & remodel the swings and make the park look better.

Cool park. The skate park next to it is a nice urban hip and young scene to be at. If you live near by, great place to go for a stroll, but if you don’t live near by, there are better parks around(just being honest)! But a park is a park nonetheless!

I allowed my kids to visit the park and have a free lunch. I went in with them. We walked in there were so many happy faces of kids and plenty of Adults to monitor them. We got in line to receive a lunch. We found a place to sit and enjoy the meal. When we opened up the lunch to my surprise it was a better lunch then I would do at home. The staff was very tentative t o the children and was on point of what was going on. I will definitely let me kid come back.

From Black Panther gatherings to graffiti jams to BBQs to the simple enjoyment of a good day’s sunshine, this park is just as much a place to wind up as it is a place to unwind. Bring a rack of pork ribs, a spray can, a frisbee, or a black beret and have a historically Oakland afternoon with friends & family.
