I feel like finding good dentists, hair stylists, and auto mechanics is difficult and once you find one you really like and trust, you should hang onto them until one of you moves.
I have been coming to Khiem (pronounced «Keem») for service on my car for a few years now.
Reasons for my 5 star review:
— I trust him. He’s honest and never tries to push unnecessary repairs on me. But when he tells me that I do need a repair, I know that it’s really necessary. If I don’t understand why a repair needs to be done, he will physically show me what’s happening on the car.
— Fair prices. $ 30/​basic service and whenever I’ve had to have repairs done, he’s always given me a couple different options at different price points (OEM parts or a different brand). He has even given me the option to purchase a part online on my own and bring it to him to install it, to get the absolutely cheapest repair possible.
— Quick. I called him on Friday at 4pm to see if he had any availability this weekend and he got me in for Saturday at 10am. The basic service only takes 20 – 30 minutes (just enough time for me to grab a bowl of phở around the corner and come back)
— Quality work. I never have issues with the work he does on my car and I know I’m in good hands.
— Friendly. He knows who I am and which car is mine when I call. The one time I have had to do a major repair on my car that was going to take several hours, he helped me coordinate it such that I dropped my car off to him in the morning, and then he dropped me off at work and then picked me up that same day so I wouldn’t have to can back and forth from the auto shop.
I read another Unilocaler’s review about having a bad experience as a WOC. That experience sounds awful and I’m not here to defend that, but I will say that I am also a woman of color and have had a wonderful experience here.
Not sure what it looks like during the week, but I always tend to bring my car in on the weekends and it can get busy. I’m not totally sure what the actual hours are; Unilocal lists them as closed on the weekends but that’s when I usually get my my car serviced. For both of these reasons, I would advise that you call ahead before bringing your car in.

The owner Wah Jai — The most honest guy in the world, every time I got a problem, I come here. My aunt strongly recommend this place to me 4 years ago, she’s been coming here for over the pass 10 years, I won’t let other mechanics touching my car because they don’t know how to fix it, I always come here for my 2009 370z oil change, 2013 M3 oil change and car inspection n stuffs, if I got car problems I’ll call him right away. He really got skills! over 30 years experienced is no joke, highly recommended!

I wish there was an option for zero stars. As a woman of color, many mechanics have been a little condescending or rude, but this guy takes the cake. It started off just fine, he yells a lot but I didn’t take it personally, until he became hostile. He yelled at me for about 5 minutes, asking whether I wanted him to check the fluids, or leave the car there all day, and I kept telling him I wanted him to check the fluids, and then he would roll his eyes and say no, and then ask again, yelling louder and louder, becoming more and more angry. Finally, he agreed to do a quick check, and he snatched the keys out of my hand, and slammed the door behind him so hard that all the signs fell off of it. I’ve never met a more angry mechanic.
He came back and told us to get out really quick and handed me my keys. The only good part was we didn’t have to pay the $ 20. But the only reason for that was, he was trying to get us out real quick and make room for the male customer who just pulled in.

Khiem, is such a great man. And a very honest mechanic. I live right a few blocks away from him and Can’t say enough how much he cares about anyone who comes in and needs his help. and he has often helped us with small things and refused to be paid. All i know is i am in debt to this kind man. Thanks for being amazing Khiem!

The mechanic was really helpful. i thought I had a muffler problem with my car but he found out I was missing a gasket where the engine was… and that it would be an easy fix… didnt have to spend a lot of money… thank GOD for honest mechanics. Great customer service.

Khiem is the best! Brought my car in for a tune up and brake. Very fast service despite the line of car he had lined up. Took care of me and also pointed out a few things that would needed to be taken care of in the near future and also topped off my fluids at no charge! My go to guy for sure. Genuine person with great personality! Keep it up Khiem!

Will be my go to mechanic for sure. Brought in my 88 Jimmy to replace the starter. It was done in less than 4 hours! And a great price.

EB is an honest and excellent car repair shop. I’ve been going to them for over 15 years. They are always helpful and prices are fair. Last week I had an electrical problem that I couldn’t fix. I dropped in and Keem (?) looked at it and tried changing a few bulbs etc and then said its not the easy things. No charge. I will drop it off Monday for him to fix.
I really trust this shop and highly recommend it.

Khiem (pronounced Keem) is the man! Took my car in to get brakes and rotors. He was efficient and even helped me save a couple dollars by letting me purchase my own parts. His fast service had me back on the road in no time! Highly recommend!

Great shop. I’m newer to the area and was tired of getting ripped off at the dealership while waiting several hours for a simple service. These gentlemen were very kind and professional. No upselling or theft problems like you’ll read about with other shops in the Town and they’re FAST. Highly recommend, my new go-​to shop.

Most honest car mechanics in California. They’ll let you know straight up what’s wrong, what needs to be done immediately and what doesn’t. My family has been going here for years for all of our car needs whether it’s work under the hood or an oil change. We are loyal costumers and will continue to be so. You will not regret bringing your car here.

My family Been here for more than 15yrs! Quick, honest, dependable service. Every time I get my car service here Khiem would always go the extra step to check if all else looks good. I feel safe driving my car knowing that it gets service by honest dependable mechanic. I would not go anywhere else.

So now it’s been 15 years and Khiem is still the greatest. Always ready and able to do the work. Never gouges you and always has an honest knowledgable assessment of your vehicles problem.
It’s a little tricky to get to for some but I just jump on the #1 bus and head back to Lake Merritt although most of the time I walk a few block down International and pick up the best Vietnamese Bahn Mi on planet earth for $ 2.75.
Makes a visit to EB Auto worthwhile!

Been servicing my dad’s cars, my cars, and my brother’s for years. Honest business, and provides great work. If you need a car fixed, look this place up! From the looks of other satisfied customers and positive reviews, you may have to take a number though!

Just went there for the death wobble on my VW GTI, which after getting two front tires and almost the entire front chasis rubbers replaced, still remained. I arrived as Khien suggested, btw 10 – 2 so a hwy road test can be performed smoothly, and very soon after that he raised the car and decided that the right axle is out.
I wasn’t sure if this would be the cause, and replacing axle assembly was more than what I expected. But when he gave me the quote, wow, lower than just the part I searched online. Everything? I asked, and how long? Yes, he said, and two hours.
So I swang back later when the part arrived. It was a pretty well rebuilt one, if not new. And before I knew it the job was over, less than even one hour. Now we got on the second road test, and right away it was clear that the death wobble is gone. WOW!
I googled and saw the part costs about the same at autohaus, online!, but the labor Khien charged was very low, not to mention the road test and his expertise to nail it the first time. I aksed him to suggest further renovation, he said no need to spend more if there is nothing wrong.
While I was there, a few walk-​ins got their cars fixed, in and out in moments. I asked one and she said her whole family came here, for more than twenty some years… they would not consider going anywhere else.

Khien is the nicest, quickest, and most honest mechanic out. Don’t even bother looking anywhere else.
I came here upon my brothers recommendation and he was on point with the repairs on my truck — identifying a potentially $ 300 starter issue as a mere $ 20 battery terminal fix. He also gives you long term projections on your car and the cost/​benefit of any repair. This is the reason why my family and friends only go to this place. Khien is the truth!

With so many autoshops around the neighborhood, it’s hard to find one that’s just right. E.B. Auto Service is just the perfect spot, Khiem is probably the most honest mechanic ever who is always willing to help solve any automotive problems with swiftness. And he won’t ever do or charge you anymore that needs to be done, which is much more different than your other mechanics out there trying to charge you more for your money. The oil changes prices are really reasonable starting at $ 25. I highly recommend anyone who needs an honest and swift working autoshop to work on their cars with quality expectations.

Called yesterday to ask about a car problem. First kudos — he answered his phone on a holiday. My car had been, what I thought was, revving really high. He said to come in at 10 or 11 today. When I got there at 11 he was there to help me in about 2 minutes, even though he clearly had a full shop going on. After he turned the car on, he diagnosed the problem in about 1 minute. Though he never needed to get the car out of park, I like that he gave me the option to ride with him for diagnosing the problem. He said it was a muffler problem and that I should go to 18^th and international because they’d do it cheaper.
Very fast, precise and honest.
And the place on international was fast, precise and honest too. So, he referred me to a good place.

It’s hard to find a good auto shop that you can trust and not try to sell you a bunch of stuff you don’t need.
Khiem is always upfront about what needed to replaced and what could wait. He’s been taking care of all the cars in my family for over 15 years.
Prices for repairs are extremely reasonable and oil changes start from $ 25. I highly recommend him to anyone who’s looking for a honest auto shop.
