Don’t come here if you can avoid it, the food isn’t great, the coffee is worse. But the worst part is they’re pricing is terrible and inconsistent. I work next door and went in to grab a bag of chips and a drink. They charged $ 3. The next week I got the exact same thing and they charged me $ 3.50 with no explanation. I know that sounds like a small complaint but it’s kind of offensive considering I see the employees and owner almost every day

I didn’t believe all these negative reviews till I went myself today… It really is gross. I paid $ 7 for a vegetarian sandwich that was disgusting!!! The first few bites were good. But after i really tasted it it was bland and gross. There was a thick slice looking piece of cream cheese and it wasn’t even good cream cheese!!! The bread was chewy and not what I expected. My friend order the turkey sandwich and even he said it was just alright. Could have been better. This is the first time I’ve ever had a «nasty» sandwich. Definitely not coming back.

Stay away from those disgusting pre-packed salads, Im not sure the owners are even aware that they sell them at the store. Wilted greens, funky smell…

BEWARE of their pre-packaged salads. And their incompetent employees. Except Julio, he was empathic and level headed. My coworker and I each purchased a salad last Friday. His salad was perfectly fine — crunchy, fresh, tasty(to each its own) and most importantly EDIBLE. My salad in the other hand was clearly beyond expiration. The salad smelled, iceberg was wilted, cucumber was brown, feta cheese did not have any firmness and the black olives were dehydrated. I didn’t have time to bring the salad back immediately so I had to deal with the return or exchange the following Monday. I went in during my lunch hour and asked for a replacement salad. I approached Julio who referred me to another employee. She was a special kind of person. Basically her response was«we didn’t sell any salads last Friday.» Really, lady? She also told me to «wait around to see if the manager comes back.» I ended up getting Charlie(the owner’s) business card from Julio and left. I must reiterate, beware of the prepackaged salads. Never going back. The one star is for Julio I guess.

Currently enjoying a delicious tuna melt with all the fixings! One of the best I’ve ever had. Very fast and friendly service, even though it was busy!

They are a lil pricy but considering the location and other local options I would be too. The food is good, sandwiches, salads. I haven’t tried their mexican food. The chili beans they serve as soup of the day on Wednesdays is the

Falafel sandwich is damn dry avoid it. Eggplant sandwich is great. They now also have a salad bar. Place in a nice corner across oakland museum. Coffee is good and bagels ok. Nice for breakfast. Wish they can stay open on weekend.

i love this place! i work across the street and its my favorite nearby lunch place for sure. i dont really understand the negative reviews on here– you would have to be really picky to complain. they have a really extensive menu of breakfast and lunch items including all kinds of sandwiches, pasteries, salads, etc. this place rules!

2 visits because it’s near the office. Visit 1: BLT was anemic, I’d say quality sandwich bread with subway quality bacon. Just left you wanting more substantial bacon not crumbly thin stuff. Visit 2: Burrito was edible but not very good. Beef(carne asada) was chewy and spiced way wrong, tortilla was microwaved and chewy. I thought they forgot the cheese and sour cream but there’s just so little that you can’t taste it. The corn chips that came with the burrito were colorful but stale. Prices are a little on the high side for what you get.

Easy place to grab a quick bite before jury duty or at lunch. Easy menu, well priced and served with a smile. I really enjoyed the coffee. Breakfast burritos are satisfying and filling. Simple egg and cheese with lunch meat.

Not that great. There’s a credit card minimum of $ 5 so I spent more than I originally anticipated. It was packed but felt unorganized. It’s confusing if you’re not ordering a sandwich/burger, as though you’re cutting the line. I had a ice soy latte that was pretty bland. I couldn’t see the condiment bar. I actually doubt one exists.

I can’t vouch for the food, but based on the reviews I likely won’t be trying anything here anyway. My review is strictly for the coffee. I’ve been here a few times now, and I think it’s safe to say that the coffee here is great. Great price, delicious, fresh– and greeted with friendly service. Despite the rough neighborhood, the café’s environment is warm, inviting, and comfortable.

I’ve stopped here four times. Its the only place between BART and the courthouse so its convenient. The food is bland. Not bad, but not particularly good. Bland. Here’s my beef. They have a sign that lists sandwiches for $ 7.75. Ok I order a sandwich listed under the $ 7.75 sign that is the roasted turkey with bacon and avocado. Seems reasonable to assume that’s a $ 7.75 sandwich but they add on $ 1 for the bacon and another $ 1.50 for avocado. I point out that their sign is completely misleading and in my opinion false advertising but the guy points to the bottom of the menu where is lists extras and what they cost. My complaint is that they list a sandwich for a price that states it comes with«extras» but they add on for them. Anyway maybe I should expect to be ripped off and be more careful but my bottom line review of this place is watch your wallet if you go there and don’t expect much from what you get.

I’ve gone against recent advice from another Unilocaler not to eat here. I think they do a great Job I had the steak burrito the way I wanted and it was the biggest burrito I ever Had(for $ 7.75) I split it with my wife and we were both so full… you also get complimentary chips and salsa.

Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars About 12:15: I was sweating like a mother — — . The door was open, but it didn’t help much(it was almost as warm inside as it was outside). I was burning up longer than necessary because I didn’t know where the line began(I could have been helped earlier). I thought that the people standing around had already ordered(the cashier directed me after some customers got out of my way). The can drinks are no longer too bunched up(the drinks as a whole are better organized now). Like last time, I didn’t get a receipt, but my total was $ 15.99(maybe they were out of pennies, as I received $ 4.05 back instead of $ 4.01). My Pepsi was probably $ 1(I’m referring to my last review). My total only makes sense if my Pepsi and burrito were taxed, but not my sandwich. Anyway, my total probably should have been $ 16.62(the prices listed on the menu no longer include tax). Not So Fast: It’s nice that he wanted to move the line along(it was busy here, but I was in and out after about 10 minutes), but the cashier was too fast(he made me feel rushed last time too– I’m sure that the cookies and other baked goods in front of the register would be noticed more if he slowed down a bit). I may not have been charged tax for my sandwich because of how eager he was to ring me up(I had to pay over a minute before my sandwich was ready– because I ordered more than her, it would have actually made more sense if the woman behind me had been rung up first). The Sandwiches are even pricier now. They used to be $ 6.50, but are now $ 7. Specialty Sandwiches are now $ 7.75(they were $ 7.25 last year). Like last time, there were 4 employees around(I think they can all speak Spanish). The server who helped me was professional and quick(my sandwich was ready in less than 2 minutes). She could have just spoken up a bit(I couldn’t hear her at first when she asked me what kind of beans I wanted– I was going to ask for refried beans when I first started ordering, but forgot). The restrooms are on the right. The doors are unmarked, but the women’s restroom is closest to the entrance. There was a free table, but I took my items to go(this helped me in terms of taking some pics). I would have eaten here if it wasn’t so warm inside(I think all the tables outside were taken when I left). : Burrito($ 7.25): 7.5÷10. I asked for mine with Pork. «Meat and cheese only; rice and beans on the side»: How I want my burritos sometimes causes a lot of confusion, but my server did a great job(she just repeated things to make sure that she heard me right). : I didn’t expect to receive salsa chips(I was pleasantly surprised). Anyway, I liked them and received a nice portion(my chips would have been better if they were just a tad saltier). (I can’t comment on the salsa that I was given.) My Spanish rice was pretty good, but not great. It just didn’t stand out. My refried beans, however, really did. They were dark and quite tasty. I enjoyed eating them. I didn’t notice any plastic utensils here, but it wasn’t an issue(I grabbed a plastic fork from my desk at work). : I couldn’t finish my burrito(I brought the rest home for my wife– she liked the burrito more than I did). I received a lot of meat and cheese, and the pork had a slight kick to it, but it just wasn’t what I expected. I can’t say that it was bad. It was just«different.» : Salami Sandwich($ 7): 8.25÷10. Like last time, I ordered one on white bread, and I just wanted it with mayo. The bread was good, but it could have been a bit softer. There was a nice amount of salami, but the sandwich I had last year was better. Still, I was very pleased. I wasn’t blown away today, but I still recommend going here.

I see some of the bad reviews for this place and a bunch of fools ordered a burrito. That’d be like going to a mission tacqueria and ordering spaghetti if they had it on the menu. Yeah, you gotta judge what they offer and not only by what’s good. But you come to a coffee shop and order a burrito? What’s next? Expecting the falafel to be good at subway? But I generally only come here when I go to court and grab a coffee when running too late to go to the nearby blue bottle. The coffee is actually decent, though generally way hot. Just had a turkey sandwich on Dutch crunch. They put actual turkey on the sandwich, not that processed deli meat you get elsewhere. Big slices too.

After jury duty at the nearby courthouse I was starving. Stopped by this place and saw they serve burritos which was what I was in mood for. Big mistake. It was the worst burrito ever and I’ve ate some pretty bad ones. The steak burrito wasn’t even warm at all! They included rice which I didn’t ask for — I normally don’t mind but this shows they didn’t pay attention to what I ordered. The place was closing up so perhaps that’s why the cook did a such lousy job. If that was the case they could have simply notified me they were closing up since I didn’t realize this until after I placed my order. Either that or recommend something easy and cold such as cold cuts sandwich. Half hour later I still have this bad taste in my mouth. When I get off BART I am so definitely getting something to wash out the taste. Food deserves a half star. The reason I am giving them two stars is because the guy at the cashier was friendly and promptly gave me a pad and pen the second he saw that I’m Deaf.

I think I’ve eaten here twice. Both times were lackluster. I had some kind of chicken avocado sandwich. It was so dry… I think maybe they had a bit of mayo on it and everything else was bread, cheese, chicken, veggies etc… It needed something to bring it all together and not make it so dry, but it was still alright tasting. I also got a couple of pastries from the counter and white hot chocolate which was EXTREMELY too hot! I burned my mouth… waited 15 mins and it was still too hot to drink! It is near Laney, but I prefer having lunch at school because it’s cheaper and of course in between classes. Dare I say that the food is much better as well… sorry Eden Plaza… :(

Passed by this café just before the County Recorder building opened. It was too early in the morning so we needed coffee. Luckily, this place was open. We could smell the coffee brewing a mile away. We also ordered breakfast bagels. Too bad they ran out of lox. I wanted to try it. Just my luck. I had the ham, egg and cheese bagel instead. Coffee Mocha was all right(I haven’t had a wowgasm on coffee ever since Paddy’s Mexican Mocha). Anyways, if I would be around the County Recorder’s office again, this is the coffee go-to place. It’s the nearest.
