Drinks were pretty good but the short haired bartender has no sense of humour. My buddy and I were trying to joke and she just wasn’t having it. It might of been not her night but ended up going to a country bar near Jack London square and it was ten folds better. Overland go there.

exactly what i want from a sports bar, tons of seating(even if there isn’t, someone will offer a folding chair for you!) and TVs almost 360 degrees around you, so most likely you will not have any obstruction when watching your game, you just look somewhere else! college football, sharks, warriors, you name it. this place is CASH only and very friendly

I live within 2 blocks of this bar and love it. Good food(I’ve had their burgers, fries, house salad, and pizzas). Everything has always been satisfying and exactly what I’m looking for when I want to have a beer or glass of wine with my dinner while watching a sporting game with my friends.

Great food! It’s bar fare with a Rockridge twist. The menu is small but covers a plethora of tastes. The black bean burger is phenomenal. I love the salad they serve with your burger. The quality is great. Happy to have a new place to eat and drink on college ave. Additionally, you can watch sports while drinking great beer, strong cocktails with a lovely bar staff.

Best bar around. Friendly, fast staff. Lots of TV’s. Lots of seating. Great atmosphere. Pool tables. Not overpriced. They have food! And the best part was the people. Diverse crowd — all ages and ethnicities and everyone friendly. It honestly almost brought a tear to my eye. Highly recommend an evening hanging out here and some drinks maybe watch a sports game and unwind.

Great all day daily specials and the grill is awesome! Try the jalapeño poppers and housemade pico de gallo and chips!

Alright GW, I love you and always have, but if you’re going to serve food, and therefore disallow bringing in outside food like Zachary’s, Cactus, Rustica, and everything else, YOUR food has to be up to par. One of the best things about your bar was the ability to bring in food while we watched a game or just hung out, but that’s no longer an option. The food from your recently-opened kitchen is marginal at best, meaning lots of people will now be leaving your bar when we get hungry. This means, of course, that we won’t be buying drinks here. Get your kitchen together or allow outside food. Otherwise, your new kitchen is going to cost you profits.

Hands down the best bar in the area. Its always got a crowd and the staff is on point. They still feel like a hidden gem with the great service and budget drinks. 5 stars easially.

Normally I love g and ws but this was some shit. I ordered 3 beers and tipped 3 dollars. Later I orders 4 Jameson shots. My change was a 20, 25s and 2 ones. I didn’t think pouring shots was a 5 dollar tip so I left the 2. If l the bar tender wanted an im between tip, he could have given 7 ones. About 10 minutes later a woman walks up tohappily. ells me there’s a rumor going around the bar(theres around 8 people at this point) that im a bad tipper and no one wants that reputation. A «random female«told her that. She was obviously the bartenders friend or someone close to him as they kept talking intimately. I spent about 120 there the ntjyight before and tipped loosely as I usually do. Tact is at a loss here. At least tell me yourself if you are offended. Playing middle school games like That makes me not want to come back.

Old dive bar with lots of atmosphere, good drinks, and a friendly cast of characters. Great place to watch the game, play some pool, or hang out with friends.

Lots of space and seating, tables and chairs, tvx music. All around good looking bar. The problem I had was with the bartender, we ordered 2 mixed drinks and she made them. Then said they were cash only, when we could clearly see a credit card machine behind the bar. Ok no big paid in cash. Then before we leave we notice she has had a group of regulars or friends come to hang out with her, they are laughing, dancing, doing shots etc. And they all pay with cards … hhmmm weird. …

An excellent neighborhood bar that never disappoints. When I set up a pub crawl that wanders down College Avenue in Rockridge, I always make a stop here. This bar holds a special place in my heart because I used to have two friends named George & Walt who used to come here with my social group! Of course, they had to take a pic in front of the sign :) Good times, good times. There’s always plenty of seating, tv’s on, and people chatting both inside and hanging outside smoking. This is a can’t miss spot for locals — and pub crawlers — alike.

George & Walt’s is definitely one of the better football-watching bars I’ve been to in the East Bay. A couple things work in its favor: 1) Cavernous with plenty of seats. I was able to come here, at kickoff time, and grab six seats easily. 2) Tons of TVs, all within eyeline of the bar(except #3) 3) A little football-cave in the back, a collection of twenty comfortable chairs in front of a huge TV The bar staff is extremely friendly, impressive given that they have to serve a bunch of Sunday-morning drinking football fans. There’s a decent selection of beers, a Bloody Mary bar on Sundays, and a daily list of drink specials. At one point, the staff put out a crock pot with nacho cheese and a bag of chips, but other than that you’ll have to bring food in if you want to have lunch. Long story short — great place for watching the big game. I’ll definitely be back.

Went to George and Walts for game 4 Giants World Series. Come early for good seats! We sat at the bar and had a great time. Service was good and the drink special of the day was $ 4 Sierra Nevadas. Not bad! The pitcher serves just under 4 pints and it was $ 14 on special as well. They gave us pretzels which is nice and old school but I was hungry! They allowed us to purchase food from outside the bar and pick it up or have it delivered which was nice. Only complaint: I ordered a lemon drop and asked for it in a rocks/bucket glass so I didn’t spill. She brought me a vodka/lemonade on the rocks, no sugar rim. Whaaaat? Come for the beer and good time y’all.

The Hut(Ye olde Slut) was my standby pool /cheap bar around here from back in my Cal days(OMGBBQ the 90s!). But they made the HUGE mistake of replacing BOTH downstairs pool tables with ping-pong. Look, I understand ping pong is an Olympic event and everything, but isn’t it really a game for 6 year olds? Bars and pool go together like a beer and a shot. Bars and ping pong go together like a fish in a dress. Luckily I remembered that G&W’s had tables. I never spent much time there as the whole sports bar atmosphere can be a bit much, but I didn’t have a bad impression of the place. I’m really happy I went back. The pool tables are almost always available, and they are very well maintained(they have league play). It’s very easy to play one on one with a friend, which can be difficult anywhere besides a pool hall. They also have free play on Tuesday, and all kinds of drink specials. Also a pitcher of Racer is $ 16 — feels like 2004 or something. They have a million TVs for sports and an open floor plan So goodbye Hut, with your moldy smell freaking PINGPONG tables(I know, I’m a bit obsessed with this point). I liked your bartenders but those tables were the best thing you had going. And hello to G&W’s — I’ve been there about 10 times in the past couple months since Ye Slut went the way of the frat party. P. S. G&W’s is cash only. You can get cash from the bartender with a debit card via a kind of annoying process, so just show up with cash.

My favorite bar in Oakland, hands down. Great people, good times, sports and pool, what more could you ask for. Maybe a beer pong tournament… oh yeah, that’s coming soon.

Living in The City, I don’t get over to the East Bay very often. If I do, Rockridge is usually a starting point before heading over to Berkeley, or visa versa. I now, finally, have a favorite bar in the East Bay: George and Walt’s. This place started as a bar and supper club back in 1946. It’s now just a bar. It’s still in the family. Why? Big open bar — lots of space, a couple of pool tables, lots of different corners with TV’s. 11TV’s with all the sports you could want(13 soon!). Super friendly bartender. Good beer prices. Good neighborhood folks(I was the only person the bartender didn’t know by name — which, she made a point of finding out). I wouldn’t really call this a dive bar, because none of the patrons were actually divey. Nice history. They’re open early. Winning. Those who know Adam S. know that I like my bars to have the qualities listed above. Screw the velvet ropes and the mixology. Screw the pretension. Double-screw obnoxious people. Give me beer, give me nice people who work(or worked) for a living, give me a TV(or 11) with sports on. Couple that with a friendly bartender and good beer prices, and you have me. If you want to watch some sports and chill this is a good spot. I hear the Sunday football set-up if done really well. Bloody Mary bar, and $ 10 buckets of Bud Light. All the games. I’m heading over once Stanley Cup playoffs start.

«Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name» Cheers? No George & Walts? F**k yeah! Pool table, arcades, cheap drinks, friendly staff & regular patrons — what’s not to love about George & Walts? I recently moved to Rockridge. George & Walt’s is, by far, my favorite establishment of any business on College Ave.(Yes, even better than Market Hall and their Brazilian Cheese Bread) *Market Hall plug* Whether it’s watching a sports game, or hang out with friends at your local dive, G&W has it all. It won’t be long before everybody knows my name. Wait, I think they already do.

We came by on a Monday night to catch part of MNF. We were surprised to see a small nacho bar setup in the corner with free chips and cheese. G&W’s also has some good drink specials every weekday so we were able to get a good deal on a couple of beers. Another cool thing, they have a big screen and a bunch of chairs setup in the back — perfect for catching a game.

I really like George and Walt’s. Great location, great people, beer selection is decent and when you’re watching a game a $ 2.50 tall can of PBR is sufficient. Plus they are all die hard A’s fans. The environment is cool, you can’t sit anywhere without seeing at least two flat screens and the small lounge area is great for just kicking back and watching some baseball or football. Wish I lived close to this place, this is what my town needs.
