I wish I could break it down into 5 stars for the art and 1 star for the. I don’t know what happened afterwards. After following a local artist for many years(Deth P. Sun), I was thrilled when he announced an exhibit at a local gallery. I made it to the the opening that was happening on the same day as Art Murmur, which I hadn’t attended in a couple of years. I remembered I had been in this gallery a few times before and I liked its art. The space is open and basic; it feels accessible and not intimidating as far as art galleries go. I purchased some art on a wall for the first time in my life and felt like an adult and I was told I would be contacted when the exhibit closed at the end of the month so I could collect my art. At the end of the month, it looked like the exhibit had been extended so I waited another month – make that two months – until the website had been changed to reflect a new exhibit. Two and a half months after I purchased the art, I still hadn’t been contacted so I tried calling the gallery. No answer no matter what day or time of day! I tried the email addresses and didn’t get an answer for 10 days. When I got a response, I was asked which art I had purchased. It was so long ago, I didn’t remember and I hoped they had records. And then no response for another 3 weeks. It was only after I got up the nerve to contact the artist himself, who had to contact the gallery owner, that I got a response. After a few text messages, I was able to collect the artwork. It only took about three months! Later, I heard a few other people who purchased art had similar trouble as well. I think the owner is super busy and overextended – maybe he can garner some volunteers in the local art community? Put up a sign-up list during the next Art Murmur? The gallery is well regarded and the art is excellent, so I hope this gallery is able to get it together for the sake of local artists and local patrons. I hope to edit this review and increase the rating.

went here for a stormy night gallery show. a few bands were playing for someones birthday. super cute folk acts. the music was lovely, as was the company. a mix of the 100% candle lit space, the storm outside, the beautiful music, the wine being passed around liberally and the amazing company made for one of the most charming nights in recent memory.

I have been attending gallery openings in the area for a few years and have always seen very intriguing, conceptual art work at Hatch. Many of the galleries around have great exhibitions, but Hatch provides something a little different. I feel the art they choose to display is very edgy and emotional. Definitely a gallery I would go to if I was in the market for some eye candy to display on my wall. For first Fridays, I am very happy to say they opened the back to the outside and it is open and inviting to chill with some beer or wine and enjoy the atmosphere.

In attending the Oakland Art Murmur, I have noticed Hatch is really the only gallery where the art is intriguing, interactive and GOOD. It’s fun to walk around but I don’t have that«mehh» feeling like I do at the majority of the other exhibits. It’s not too tough to find when you forget the address. There’s a particular alley lined with small vendors and the dj is basically set up right infront of Hatch. The highlight of my visit last month was some sort of keyboard art contraption. Visitors could play the keyboard and upon pressing a key, a paint brush would rise and mark the scroll of paper that snaked across the gallery wall. This past Friday, James Kirkpatrick and Derek Weisberg did some great collaborative and individual work at Hatch’s Mine Us One show.

Went to Hatch for the art murmur event — boy was it packed. Regardless the gallery had fantastic art and the curator was on hand to answer questions and to talk to. Had art in all price ranges and a bunch of cool prints in the flat files for sale. I’d say Hatch has a very positive community vibe but without loosing any high art cred. Good spot to watch I’d say!

It’s funny because I think most of the gallery space is mostly devoted to the office. The art space layout looks like a backwards letter«C». They had an exhibition on photography including photos and paintings. Strange that I liked the paintings of cameras than the actual photographs. Hatch is located in between two other art galleries so just look for the crowds.
