I went to check out krowswork a few weeks ago based on a friend’s suggestion that I attend the opening for: «What If? In the Days When the Tiger Smoked.» While it’s hard to gauge the promise of a gallery – the atmosphere at any one time is determined by the current work shown, and long-term prospects are based on the skill, dedication and business skills of the curator – krowswork shows potential. Jasmine Moorhead, the approachable owner and director, seems genuinely engaged with, and with a desire to exhibit, challenging video art and photography. Keeping with the younger, less stodgy atmosphere, the opening was a laid-back affair, featuring HITE and kimchee. With a previous exhibit that showcased the work of Shana Moulton(a rising NYC based star in video art) and a current exhibit that certainly(at least for me) raises the bar conceptually and content-wise – at least for the Bay Area. I would keep an eye out for this one.
