Betty does equally well on my really thin mildly waved hair and my partner’s thick, curly hair. I strongly recommend her.

After I was dragged in to see Betty by a friend who persuaded me to hack off too many years’ accumulation of hair, I’d never think of going anywhere else. Betty is as good as it gets. She knows that I must be in the public eye for my work, yet I have the hairstyling skill of a chimpanzee. I don’t know how she does it, but every cut looks great from the time I walk out of the salon to the time I walk back in six weeks later. And she is fantastic with the semi-​permanent coloring as well.
Imagine, great looking, healthy hair that looks stylish with no responsibility for «the owner» other than keeping it clean. I’m hooked!

Newell rules. I’ve been going to him for years. Honestly, I missed him so much when I was living in Chicago. I have never disliked a cut he’s given me.
The best results seem to happen when I give him a general length or tell him what I hate about it and he fixes it, rather than laying out exactly what I want. Seriously, he usually knows better, but does what I want him to anyway, and then I wish I had just let him do his thing. He also approaches cutting hair like it’s a science project – an endeavor that requires complete concentration. He’ll take breaks to talk, rather than trying to do two things at the same time.
Their resident colorist guru is also quite fantastic – it took her an hour and a half, but she gave me the most subtle radiant highlights, the kind that grow out without leaving any sort of ugly roots.
Head First underwent a significant renovation a while ago and the interior now looks quite pink and frou frou which is a bit at-​odds with the style of the staff. It’s comfy though, and I don’t mind spending an hour in there. They are also incredibly reasonably priced, especially for the quality they deliver. It may look like your grandma’s hair salon (and yes, my grandma has gotten her hair cut here too, but she’s more hip and awesome than your grandma), but it’s hidden gem in the hair world. Newell will give you a cut that looks great on you specifically – just trust him to do it.
