Good fresh donuts and the coffee’s not bad either. The staff were very friendly as well. I’d return. Subtracted one star because they ran out of old fashioned maple.

I know donut shops. One of my first jobs was in a donut shop, and I have been at them like a bug to a light ever since I was a little kid and my dad would give me $ 1.35(apple fritter + maple bar) on Sunday mornings. This is a regular go to for me. The selection isn’t huge, but the quality makes up where quantity leaves off. It is the cleanest donut shop that I have ever been in, and the cleanliness comes through in the donut quality. You can taste that they are frying in clean oil, not the norm in most fry shops. As for quality, the donuts are fried or baked at the perfect time, so that the raised are light and fluffy like clouds, the crullers and old fashioned have the right amount of crunch, the fritters aren’t doughy, and the cake donuts are not dry or crumbly. The neighborhood is rough. If you post up at the window, you will get an eyeful. Lot’s of hookers and hustlers. Don’t let that scare you off, this spot is worth stopping at if you are in the neighborhood.

Since moving from my little podunk town to Oakland, I’ve been on the hunt for an awesome donut shop. Thus far, this place has come the closest to filling the hole in my heart that was reserved for Gilroy Donut House. The place has ample selection. They’ve got krullers, cream filled bars, sprinkled bars, cinammon donuts, old fashioneds, apple fritters, twists, maple bars, croissants… I’m sure I’m forgetting some, to be honest. Today I got a cinnamon crumb donut, a croissant, and a plain sprinkled donut and they were all tasty. The croissant was buttery and flakey and awesome. The sprinkled donut could’ve used more sprinkles and the cinnamon crumb seemed like it could’ve used a little more time in the fryer. I don’t know if I’m ready to give up the search for the Ultimate Donut Shop in all of Oakland but I know that this place is okay until I can find it.
