This was a complete surprise. I came to the Friday morning farmers market in downtown Oakland to get eggs on the way to work after a good breakfast. I always am interested in new food experiences and saw this stand selling coffee cups of soup. They had two in big pots on two burners. One of them was potato, turnip Meyer lemon and Rosemary. That’s the one I got. Served in a coffee cup, walking away I was sipping it through the coffee cup lid and didn’t even crave coffee or anything else. Well rounded flavors with rosemary notes on a ribbon of lemon ensconced in a base of potato love. I’m seriously not someone who uses grande expressions of description but walking that cold morning street with a hot cup of lovely soup was a great start to the morning that put a smile on my face. Thank you.

There is no pic of the Ratatouille soup because I took one taste and INHALED half of the jar. The various spices and flavors were so entrancing that I stood up eating at the kitchen counter because I didn’t want to waste 5 seconds moving to a chair to sit down. Honestly, I didn’t think I could find any soup that I would love as much as their borscht but this comes darn close. Note: the soup had been sitting in my fridge for the past 5 days since purchasing it on Sat 9⁄27. None of the freshness was lost. It is incredibly hard(try looking around) to find gluten free plus vegan plus no processed sugar plus no preservatives prepared foods but Little Spoon Soup manages this all magnificently. Little Spoon Soup, Je t’adore! PS. Erica told me that as soon as beets are in season again, the borscht will be back.

Love Little Spoon Soup! Everything they make is amazing — I get soup every week at the Friday farmer’s market in old downtown Oakland, and I’ve never been disappointed. Everything is so rich and flavorful while still being super healthy for you. My favorite so far has been one of their curry soups… it was like tikka masala sauce as a healthy soup. Yum!

Creamy tomato soup with cashews — yum! I challenge any restaurant to match up with this offering. Simple farmers market booth with two soups available. Doesn’t get any fresher and tastier than this — worth going out of your way to discover.

Time: 9:17am/56°F cloudy Purpose: On my way to work pull some old email up, glad I read to. It was from Erica saying come by and pick up your soup. Ding ding ding! Set-up: Canopy, two soup pots, cooler w/ice, small table, business sign, moneybox, mason jars, plastic spoons, bi– fold ad sign. Staff: Erica was present said you made it, all hugs now! Cleanliness: It’s a mobile soup place what else do you want? Eats/Drinks: A jar of 32oz green lentil and quarter loaf of Phoenix Rustics olive bread, priceless. Products: Soup and bread only. 16oz $ 6, 32oz $ 12. Bring back the 32oz for $ 1.50 refund. Samplers provided if you ask. Punch Lines: Old oakland farmers market, downtown, free shuttles, Chinatown, jack London square, hotels, fi-di. Tradeoffs: Wholesome homemade soup with no preservatives made with love store in mason jars. Final Thoughts: With so many food vendors these days only a few are in the soup business and if they do it’s probably outsource local made, kind of like an authorized seller. Come here and have some real soup and see for yourself. Erica really has it’s spot among food vendors now known her since last year in downtown Berkeley with her idea of going soup. Fridays-Old Oakland 8am-2pm Sundays-Temescal 9am-1pm *Get a hold of Erica for you next event!
