Tucked away on a second floor seventies office sweet, on the bustling tree lined street 17^th in Downtown Oakland, is MANIAC gallery. I love that Petra who runs this small gallery chooses to represent emerging artists, giving us a true peak at Art now! This gallery is different in so many ways because it really seems like there is a greater sense of purpose. I have been to many of the openings, which she has every month, and every show brings something new and real. A band performance, a solo show, wall installations and ohh good energy– If you are interested in emerging artists come here, and you could very well leave with something rad for your collection!

oh yes… here’s one of those places that you really never know what to expect, but you’re going to have an awesome time no matter what is happening… I first met the owner of Maniac, (one tall order of an eccentric woman with sharpie maker to-​do notes scrolled all over her hands…) while at my friends art show where while in some significant pumps she was re affixing some material from the ceiling with tacks and laughing so hard she almost fell off the ladder. The space is randomly located on the same street at phở 84 and temple tattoo, and the opening went until after 10pm (look for the crowd spill on the sidewalk near the security door). Admittingly, I dont usually go to art openings and I was there mostly to support my friends art in the show, but I actually ended up buying a piece of someone elses art (a small drawing) that I loved and have gone to almost every show since… yes, Im an official art buyer!!!
