Trash american bar. Mostly trash because of the food. Didnt even mess with the drinks, just came here to wait for Burma. Anyways i got a beer and tried the dollar oysters as well as the nachos and meatballs. All the food was weak af but here its beer food plus you suppose to come here for the drinks anyways. The nachos were beyond basic. The guacamole was a little too creamy for me. The meatballs were beyond weak and a two order dish was really small. The fact that it was two orders is shocking cause it should have been just one. Cant complain about dollar oysters though! The highlight of the wait here. By far. Should have just stuck with that. Overall the place wasn’t that dope but honestly we didnt really properly get the full experience. The backdoor patio area with blankets was dope af though ahaha.

A great gastropub/small plates bar and I am going back! Visited on a Monday night during the holidays and our waiter and the food and environment took me from a miserable day to great evening after being seated. We didn’t get to check out the back patio, but will next time. The food was yummeh(chicken pot pie made with fresh veggies — a delight to bite into every morsel!, and a few bruschettas that were inventive and tasty), the sangria was delicious, the ginger beer(on tap) was spectacular, and again: our waiter(who seemed as if he were covering the entire restaurant cheerfully and skillfully) made our day.

I have no idea how the food and drinks are because we ordered our brunch and, after waiting 45 minutes, never got our order so we left. There was hardly anyone else there. Too bad. The people running it seemed nice.

A fun place for happy hour or a nice dinner. I love sitting outside on the patio and enjoying a nice beverage with some happy hour appetizers. I went to Restaurant Week here last year and was not disappointed! They had a few choices and I went with the starter salad, Moussaka, and chocolate cake with ice cream. It was all decadent and definitely worth the money.

I had brunch with girlfriends back in October with a party of 10 and it was a perfect way to have a relaxing, no fuss bday brunch. The service was super profesh midst of our disorganized bunch. We all arrived at different times and the server was no fuss about it and was super accommodating. They did have a lot of substitutions for their menu… but they made sure they listed it on their board and made it known. Was kind of a bummer bc they didn’t have Prosciutto so a few of us were forced to order the crab cakes which were surprisingly very moist. It also had a nice spicy kick so it wasn’t your boring old crab cake. Overall a good place to brunch without the annoying lines that you typically find at brunch places. Good menu and no fuss, Lionel Richie brunch; easy like Sunday morning.

I’ve been here a few times just to hang out with friends on the back patio enjoying some cocktails and a few bites. I think the cocktails are pretty good here and anything I have ordered to eat I have enjoyed. I dont think this place is anything exceptional but I’ve never had a bad experience and think it’s a nice«hang out» place to enjoy a nice cocktail and some laughs with friends and I enjoy the patio out back, I think it is cozy.

I hate to slam a local business, especially one under new ownership, but this is the first time in 5 – 6 years I’ve left a 10% tip. Took 10 minutes to get first glass of wine, order of oysters was not put in and then took 30 minutes to arrive. It arrived minus 3 oysters which were brought out with a lemon, no mingionette. Next glass of red wine was brought out warm — I had to send it back. For a $ 60 appetizer meal, I kind of expect server not to apply lip balm at the table. I’ll give them another chance, but service needs to become more professional. Also, music selection could be more cultured — Jimmy Eat World and My Bloody Valentine during happy hour at a wine bar?

My friend & I love this place and almost hesitate to let other people in on it! Granted I come for the bar, don’t know the restaurant side of things. Amazing bartender alchemists create the most fantastic cocktails with unusual and local liquors and ingredients. Not to mention the owner recently created his own bourbon & threw a badass release party. Proud purchaser of bottle #3! Limited food I’ve had was great. I’d like to see the deviled eggs back on the menu might be the best I’ve ever had. Check out live music night for fun local talent & energy.

Their outdoor patio is really nice. it’s perfect place to bring a date actually. I had their Garden Burger and can highly recommend it. The staff there is great! Yumm Cocktails, too!

That outdoor back patio though. Aside from a beautiful date spot, this place delivers some of the finest cocktails ranging from new to old school. But of course, who could not mention their hard to beat specials on Wednesdays with the oysters. $ 1? Who’d be crazy enough to say no? Come with good vibes, leave with even happier ones. Thank you Marc 49.

I think that Marc 49 is soo cute inside. I instantly feel relaxed and ready for a seasonal cocktail and a bowl of their warm olives. Once I had this excellent Cabernet that was recommended by the GM. I have to say it was in my top 5 Cabs. This bar has good bites and drinks and the atmosphere matches. I love it soo much that I had an event here last year on the back patio(the warm lamps helped a ton). The staff was soo friendly and helpful. All 30 of my guests were really impressed with the venue, drinks and food. Great gem in Oakland.

I’ve been here a few times and have been generally underwhelmed. Things that sound great on the menu end up tasting bland. An exception is the deviled eggs, and I’m told the veggie burger is decent(but as a rule I don’t trust vegetarians). Good but pricey drink selection; once I accidentally spent $ 30 on two glasses of white wine. The back patio can be a weird scene when large groups show up — you end up as an extra in their movie. Overall, meh. It’s very visually pretty but that’s about it.

Talk about a good choice! I was asked to try and find a place as we were going down the highway. Considering my ears still hadn’t popped from the awful cabin pressure on my flight and it was 12:30 am my time I wasn’t too motivated. I turned to my trusty Unilocal app and picked the first thing with 4 stars I could find. Absolute winner! We sat at the bar, talked with the owner and some locals… had amazing crab cake sliders and the tastiest veggie burger I have ever had(I hate all things veggie usually) and enjoyed the atmosphere, great lighting, people both the staff and the patrons and the delish food. Yay! Go to this place with friends or make a new one while you are there. Either way… go!

I’ve been holding off writing a review for Marc 49 because of the rave reviews and I kept coming back thinking it was the only time I was receiving misses. No more– Truthfully, they’re just ok. Sometimes, I’m a little amused by them when I get a bartender who doesn’t know much about the wines(you know, at a wine bar) and we have to go back and forth to see what I might be interested in. Cocktails, when made great, are perfect and insane in what the mixologist must’ve thought to combine all those outlandish ingredients together. Oysters and meh, cheese plates are normal and I’m not really interested in the food. All in all, I would rate it an ok wine bar to be at. Nothing frilly, nothing crazy and while the bartenders are a little lacking in knowledge, definitely hospitable and will try to work with you.

Maybe someone reading this could enlighten me. What is it about these high-end restaurants that serve food portions no bigger than your fist? I stopped here on the way home today. I did not want to make a scene, but when I saw what I was getting for the price, my mind was made up to never return. After which, I stopped at a another place for pizza and salad. Now, I’m full! Jeeez. I give Marc 49 *Five Stars* for pleasing personalities.

We enjoyed an excellent meal here with friends(also excellent). My honey and I arrived early and ordered two inventive drinks from their cocktail menu. Pretty sure it was an owner who served us and he was incredibly hospitable. Upon learning that our friends were running a bit later for our reservation, we were not met with annoyance, but glasses of complimentary wine! Who does that?! Once our friends arrived, we made our way to our table on the back patio. Lovely ambiance. I definitely recommend enjoying your meal al fresco. Our server was fantastic and helped us determine how much food to order. The five of us consumed: — wine flights — crab deviled eggs — oysters(12) — crab cake sliders(x2) — meat & cheese plate — grilled cheese sandwiches(x2) Our total with tip, for PLENTY of wine and food, came to about $ 65/person. Totally worth it in my book. *Happy hour until 7 pm on weekdays!

Don’t order food. Order cocktails. Eleven, or one, really just depends how many times you want your mind to be entirely blown by a balance of Unexpected Incredible. The bartender is a bigger talent than NYC or SF or New Orleans has ever seen. And he refuses to take part in bar tending competitions. He owns the place. He loves seeing people freak out over his concoctions. He doesn’t want anything else. …And we think this is crazy. Because if he owned another bar, twice as many people would have their minds blown on a casual night out. If he owned three bars… You see where I’m going. I bring different people here time and time again. They are snobs. They lose their cool. If you read this, your mission is to(1) take me up on my word for this place,(2) realize, just realize, once your taste buds are Stockholm Syndrome’d, what I’m talking about, and(3) help force this guy — apparently named Dezman Turner — to enter SOME kind of competition. Expand. I don’t know. Something. This can’t be lost. This can’t be restricted to 10 people at a time. Please come here. It’s absurd what he creates. What, you want a rec? Order the Brando. Or just talk to Dezman. *weeps at the beauty*

«We’ll have the special.» The bartender here rarely disappoints. Coming to Marc 49 for a nightcap has become a tradition amongst me and my friends and we are always indulging in this guy’s creative mixology mind. The small plates are delicious and seasonal I believe. The drink menu also rotates and if you find nothing appealing, the bartender will whip a previous special or come up with a drink to your liking. The service is always a delight and if you ever get a chance to sit on the patio, it’s a nice change of atmosphere. Always coming back(and usually on my birthday) for a nightcap.

Came here on a weeknight and had a great time! Although the food is good, this place is NOT amazing for vegetarians. There are some choices but overall it’s a very meat heavy menu. With that said, the ambience in the back patio is pretty trendy and romantic(good place to get your date on). The server was very friendly and attentive. We has the tomato bruschetta(which was great) the mushroom soup, caramelized onion bruschetta, olives(excellent punchy taste) and black bean sliders. The slider was tasty but became really dry after a few bites. Overall this place is good but feels a little pricey for the quality.
