This is the best branch in the the whole Oakland library system. It’s very small in size, but boast some of the best librarians around and has some of the best material available. Anne and Harold are my favorite people to see here, they know me and my family by name and actually put forth an effort to get to know us as friends rather than just a number in the system. if you ever need to find anything or have any questions, these are the people to talk to, they know tons of useful information and are truly here to help others enjoy the library.

This is the library I always go to. It is clean and I can always park really close. Often close enough to leave the car running while I run to the drop box (but only because I drive a stick and not a new one!). The building is old and looks like it was once a court house or something.
The staff is always really friendly as are most library staff that I have encountered. I recently owed $ 15 in fines but because I paid $ 10, the librarian just removed all of the fines. I thought that was a wonderful gesture and I was able to check out books right away. I have also had good experiences at the library on Edes and one on Fruitvale but this one on Foothill is my fav.

Great children’s and teens sections. This library is clean, welcoming and has a great staff. The children’s librarian is particularly helpful. The also have a great collection of Spanish literature for kids and adults.

Melrose Branch– i like this library.
the neighborhood is pretty sketchy, so it’s a crapshoot to leave my car (it’s not a nice car) out on the street, but it’s great to always have parking nearby, and i mean NEAR!
the place is damn cute in and out.
it’s a whole building, don’t know what it originally was, perhaps always a libray.
it has an upstairs with the books and such, and downstairs a meeting room and the bathrooms. good size, great architecture!
the staff are friendly
i went to the book club once, not too impressed. perhaps i’ll give it another try sometime…

this is MY library, and thus it is the best library. cause *i* work there. oh, and also it’s a carnegie library which means it’s cute, and all the other people who work with me are also cute and nice and we have lots of books and magazines and movies and other stuff like you’re supposed to have in libraries. Free programs too. lots of them, including afterschool homework help and storytime (done by moi). and we speak espanol. well, some of us do.
