WHAT A RIPOFF!!! Went there last night to redeem my livingsocial coupon and the place is shut down. I’m sure I’m not the only person to with a valid coupon so at least the restaurant should have stayed open until they expired in October. What I don’t understand is how a place with such a great location and concept could go out of business in this part of Oakland that is so vibrant and busy. These owners must be losers. So we go to 3000 Broadway and spend $ 175 on appetizers and champagne cocktails. Their appetizers were really delicious and very reasonably priced.

Classy and chic, this place makes me want to come back just for that feeling that I’m somewhere fancy and that only the crème de la crème come here. There was a DJ and everyone was dressed sharp. I couldn’t help but feel a little out of place though with only a V neck T shirt and some jeans. On a Saturday night in April, this place was poppin, the bar was crowded and the bartenders look like they were struggling a bit to keep up. Looking at their sparkling menu, they had so many mimosa/champagne options. It was quite overwhelming but at the same time you want to try everything they had. My group and I ended up having a peach bellini mimosa. It was very tasty and made me desire another. So why the 3 stars rather than 5? While waiting to order our drinks, the female bartender was quite unfriendly. Seriously, why are people in the service industry sometimes so rude? Do they NOT want a tip? They do realize that tips are optional unless you have a party of 6 or more at a restaurant. We had been standing in line for a while and once my friend, Jen, got her attention, the bartender told her that she would be next after the people next to her. The bartender served them, then went to another customer at the bar, then another customer at the bar, then another, ignoring my friend the whole time. Finally, Jen tells her«excuse me, you said I was next after them.» The bartender flashes her a look of death and rudely asks«WHATDOYOUWANT» This is a nice place, we were just trying to get a drink. Why the attitude? Anyway, I hate rudeness. That is an automatic huge strike for them. Not to say, I wouldn’t come back but it’s probably not going to happen if that same bartender is there. I don’t need to put up with people’s bad attitudes here when I can go somewhere else just as nice and receive great service. Maybe if I come back next time, I’ll have a better experience.

This was originally a 3.5-star review, but I rounded up because everyone was really nice and we enjoyed our time there. We got a livingsocial deal which included 2 flights(of 4 mimosas each, but they had to be the same ones) and a dessert. We also ordered a separate cheese plate(BF would have gotten food but the kitchen was out of most things… the guy said it hadn’t been restocked that day? weird) and ended up buying another mimosa after we’d tried our 4. The mimosas were delicious! We tried: 1) Jolly Rancher(I liked it, but I wouldn’t have said it tasted like a jolly rancher if you had asked me…) 2) Peach Bellini(our favorite! delicious!) 3) Vanilla something(i liked it, bf did not) 4) The Gold Rush(their house special mimosa, but served with ice in a wine glass!) The peach bellini was fantastic, and if/when we go back, I’d get that one again. I wanted to try a few others too(honeydew, strawberry, blueberry-lemon)…next time. At $ 8 each, regular price, they are pretty reasonable. I think the décor looks way better when it’s dark outside. The only weird part is the big coolers full of the champagne… they are just regular coolers that you’d use at like a deli or something, so it doesn’t exactly showcase the champagne the way you’d expect. The cheese plate was pretty big, but just had basic cheeses(cheddar, mozzarella, and a blue cheese). I would have liked more variety, but I still thought it was a pretty good plate. Our dessert was brownie bites with a scoop of ice cream. I don’t know how much it would have been without the coupon, but I definitely wouldn’t have paid more than like $ 3…they looked just like brownie bites from Safeway with one small scoop of regular vanilla ice cream in the middle and a chocolate drizzle. The presentation was nice, and they tried to warm the bites up, however, they were really dried out and so very tough to cut in half… not the way brownies should be! Our server and the busser were both very nice. They were playing music but it wasn’t at an obnoxiously loud level, which was great, and it wasn’t too crowded in there. In fact it was pretty empty… but it got a bit busier after 9ish. I don’t really mind though, since I’m not a huge fan of crowds. If we go back, it would be to try the food on a night when the kitchen was stocked, and for another peach bellini. Might skip the dessert next time and just drink more. :)

Atmosphere is fantastic, bar, table, and lounge seating with candles in modern, updated space. Our waiter was very attentive and very sweet. We ordered 2 lime mimosas which were delicious, but I didn’t even have a hint of a buzz. For $ 8 a pop they are way overpriced unless you come at happy hour which lasts until 8 and then they are $ 3 or $ 4 each. Ordered food: caprese skewers, caesar salad, shrimp tacos, and bruschetta. The skewers were pretty good but needed more flavor; the salad was a large portion, the tacos were absolutely disgusting(soggy and not fresh), and the bruschetta was by far the best-but only the best food that night, not the best I have ever had. Food was between $ 7-$ 9 per plate or $ 4-$ 5 during happy hour, but probably not worth any price. I wouldn’t really call the food here tapas, and definitely not Spanish tapas, more like mini-apps. Had a coupon for the place which is why we came, and we enjoyed ourselves, but probably not going back.

What I like: The ambiance is stylish, modernly elegant & loungey. I like that there are many huge windows everywhere & I want one of their capiz shell chandeliers for my home. The place is kept clean, has candles lit all over & the staff is really great. The bartender was so sweet & punctual with getting us our food & beverage orders. I had the Peach Bellini & Cherry Moon Mimosas & both were good. My friends liked their Mimosas & the crispy tacos. What I don’t like: The music so loud it was distracting. We went on a Tuesday & it was empty except for us. There is no obvious signage as you drive by so it was hard to figure out if this was the place I was supposed to meet my friends at. MCL is not in a bad part of town but the stores next door are out of business & there are many industrial types of buildings that look abandoned so it feels kinda desolate. Also, there were several shady characters walking around on the street beside the lounge & the street had no lights. As a female I do not like walking to my car a block away seeing groups of suspicious men watching me. I was surprised since like I said this is not a bad part of town. It’s too bad the lounge doesn’t talk to the city about adding light on the street they are located, it would make women feel like they aren’t walking to their cars in the dark. Moral of this Unilocal: Come here with a group of people & leave with them or brush up on your Kung Fu moves before you come to MCL.

My cousin got a coupon on Living Social, so we decided to check it out. Went here with a small crew on a weeknight — we were basically the only ones there. I’ll start with the positive: great space, nice décor. Now for the not-so-positive: 1) They were out of 90% of what was on the menu, including ALL the desserts, which was kind of ridiculous, since they advertise themselves as a place that serves mimosas, tapas, and dessert. 2) The«tapas» didn’t really count as «tapas» in my opinion; they were just really small portions of things. 3) No beer on tap was available — they were out of stock. 4) I thought the prices were too high. Two things that might not qualify as positive or negative: 1) The bartender was super nice to us, though it turns out he was just trying to hit on my cousin. 2) Also, I think this place would work better as a brunch spot — who doesn’t love mimosas with their brunch?

Lemon Ginger drink is yummy! Apparently its the bartender’s specialty. I went on a Wednesday evening and the place was EMPTY — 730pmish. My friend and I enjoyed the whole lounge to ourselves for an hour ½ or so. 3 people walked in during the last half hour we were there. Parking was easy to find and even though it’s in a dark area of dowtown oakland, it is walking distance to the other various dinner/drink spots down broadway. The place is nicely decorated. Has a dark feminine feel to it. We were given menus right after we found our seats. The bar tender took our food orders. He returned to tell us every single item we ordered was not available. Apparently they order food on certain days of the week and weekends get the most goods. They dont want the food to spoil during the week. He tells us what is available and with such little options the task of ordering gets more difficult. ahh! peach bellini. too sweet. lemon ginger drink. had a stong taste. reminded me of vernors ginger soda. loved it. I decided to go with the bruschetta, the fish taco, and my friend ordered the chicken panini. We later found out we were hungrier so we ordered the shrimp tacos and some shrimp skewers. bruschetta — goat cheese, basil, tomatoes. it was fresh and delish! I wanted a second helping, but apparently the one order we got was their last. at 8pm? no more appetizers? ugh. fish taco — the fish itself was a little too fishy. the tortilla was cold and didnt have that cooked taste that i need. otherwise it had cabbage and a salsa. chicken panini — average. nothing exciting. the salad that accompanied it was just some shredded greens with a basic balsamic. oh yah it was like 2 bites. done! shrimp tacos — cheap baby shrimp. cold again. shrimp skewers — garlicky. well seasoned. they looked a little on the raw side. kind of translucent. i was a lil scared — but no hives! thank goodness. each plate was $ 8 – 10. pretty overpriced for the quality of food. It’s such a nice lounge with lots of potential. but it is a sad sight to see this place so empty and walk ONE block down to see PICAN full and alive! MIMOSAOWNERS! STEPITUPBEFOREYOUGETSTEPPEDON. I’m tempted to go back for that bruschetta though — however im scared i will trek over there and it won’t even be orderable! I might have to call and have them reserve mine! the bar tender was very attentive and was as helpful he could be. it is totally understandable that it’s not his faul this place is lacking organization in the kitchen!

What can I say, this place as so much potential but they just don’t seem to get it right. I have been here three times to keep trying to see if it get’s better. The Happy Hour menu is nice and drinks are good but not great. Why would a champagne bar not have Champagne Flights to taste? Why do they offer a certificate that outlines the guidelines of how it can be used only to change them when you try and use it. Why does their web site say they open at 6:00 so a large group of ladies arrive and stand at their door in the cold only to see it dark inside with chairs on the tables and they are told they do not open until 7 on week nights. Ok so the manager let us in so we would not freeze, told us she would try and get us drinks but food would not be ready to order until 7 so we would need to wait. We took chairs down and sat and she alone took our orders, made our drinks and served us. We had over 20 in our group and other then us the place was empty. Really can not say much more but if this place were mine it would be so so so much better and run so much smoother. I really think they are hurting their own business. A new wine far just opened in the area so guess I need to go check it out.

Reading reviews over the last 24 hours has added quite a bit of pressure. It’s the New Year and all you Unilocalers are churning out some really profound and thought provoking material. Now here I sit with a blank computer screen staring right at me trying to think of something to write about that can live to your expectations. Finally after 15 minutes in deep thought I just said Hell with it, I am just writing a bar review and if you don’t like it then you can kiss my BLEEP.(I bet Jennifer L thought I was going to say ASS didn’t you?) This past October, my wife and I met up with Gill C and Markus N for an early evening of cocktails and birthday celebration. I had not ever heard of Mimosa, but if Gill was pretty high on the place and I always trust her opinions. We arrived shortly after 6 and Markus and Gill were already sitting at the bar. My kind of friends! Our bartender handed us a drink list and we quickly glanced at the awesome list of libations and oh what list it is. Cava, sparkling, prosecco and of course champagne highlighted the list. And if you would rather have a beer or a cocktail instead there is plenty to choose from there too. The bar itself is by no means a dive. This place oozes of cool, sleek and modern yet still surprisingly comfortable. There is plenty of bar and table seating including, and the room is quiet enough to carry on a conversation. There is also a nice flat screen television above the bar where we were able to root on our Giants who at that time were playing the Braves and on their way to bringing San Francisco our first World Series victory. If you are one who needs a quality bite of food while enjoying a glass of your favorite drink, there is a super awesome menu of what appear to be many tasty treats. On this night, we did not partake in the food items, but next time we will for sure. In the end, I must say I loved this bar. But I love my friends even more. And oh! I just realized that my first review of the New Year was of a champagne bar!

A beautiful, stylish space that’s appropriately named, as their Mimosas truly are their specialty. My girls Kiki I. and Carmella T. and I must have spent 3 solid hours here on Friday — time flies when you’re having mimosas! Their inventive happy hour mimosa menu will peak your interest. It’s hard to choose, but at $ 4 a pop, you can easily try a bit of everything without breaking the bank. My lemon ginger mimosa was expecially zesty with a crisp citrus flavor. Our server then suggested the amaretto mimosa, which had a mild taste of almond. What I loved: — Extensive mimosa happy hour menu: Unique flavors(peach bellini, lemon zest, amaretto…) for only $ 4. — Chic and stylish atmosphere — Spacious, so you and your guests have their own area — Good music, and sports on the flatscreen if you want to watch the Warriors game — Attentive service — They accepted our $ 25 gift certificate(for food only) What I didn’t love: — No food on the happy hour menu. Their website is wrong. It says they offer $ 5 small plates, but they don’t anymore. Their plates are all tapas style(i.e. very small), so at $ 8 to $ 12 a pop, food can get pricey here. On a positive note, the plates were all delicious. — Although the mimosas were great, their other happy hour cocktails(sangrias, mojitos, bubbletinis) were $ 6. A bit pricey for happy hour. — The cocktails weren’t that strong. In fact, the mimosas seemed to be stronger than the cocktails. Overall, I highly recommend this place strictly for after-work drinks. It offers a beautiful ambiance where you can enjoy the company and conversation of friends without the crowds. The plates I ordered(fish tacos and ceviche) were both excellent, but I’d opt for a Peruvian restaurant over a lounge if I wanted tapas. So my advice is… have an early dinner elsewhere, then close out the night with the Mimosa Lounge before happy hour is over.

Great location for a bar or just a drink — but don’t be fooled by the word Champagne. The owner’s and management no nothing about it — other than to mix it with other juices and beverages. There are no flights or samples of Champagne or sparkling wines on the menu — little or no understanding of the quality or what make one sparkling wine better than the next — and actually no clue as to how to correctly mix the beverages. This place is just a bar with the word Champagne as it’s title. Finally I think the concept of a Mimosa is what drives this place. In short, mixing sparkling wine(or Champagne) and creating a mixed drink. It’s low brow sparkling drinks… nothing more or less. If your looking to sample Champagne or sparkling wines — you should go elsewhere.

The area is not safe. but I guess it’s okay for Oakland. The food is definitely not even close to being average. the restaurant apparently ran out of 70% of the items on the menu. and I’m talking normal dining hours –7pm ish on a weekend. The tuna tartare was fishy, crab panini used canned crabs, everything looked home made. I give the highest rating to the molten chocolate cake. The mimosa selection is just average. By 10pm the place started playing 50 cent + various hip hop music and turned even more. ghetto :( Would stay away.

I think, now that I’ve had a night to reflect on it, that Mimosa Champagne Lounge is trying to make a statement about contrasts. Why else would they keep the Dom Perignon in the same refrigerator case as the JFJ Almond-flavored sparkling wine? Why else nicely outfit the interior, and then choose amber lighting so yellow that every patron looks badly jaundiced(and leaves one to wonder if the loud music is covering up the zapping from bug lights)? Why else choose a name that evokes class and refinement, and then use an embarrassingly cheap, big screen HDTV for the focal point above the bar, with a poorly resolved projection TV just above it? And why have them simultuned to the Testosterone Channel, when everything else in the room looks so pretty? The invitation seems to be, please enjoy a drink or a nibble while we bombard you with jarring contrasts. Unfortunately, pairing premium prices with a back-alley ambiance is a bad mix. It makes me wonder if the cocktail combinations are equally jarring. Please ditch the TVs and focus on service. You could be a really nice place.

When I was 19 years old, I got the bright idea to escape the barren desert of Northern Nevada to move to the lush green of Portland, Oregon… to «go to school.» Now I can finally admit that the bright idea’s name was Chris, and I became enamored with him when I ran into his car with my super rad truck. I only made it in Oregon for 5 months because 1) I couldn’t handle the rain and, 2) Chris couldn’t handle me. During my brief move to Portland, I came home for the holidays because I missed my mommy. What does that have to do with this review? Uh… mostly nothing, except for the fact that I came home for New Year’s Eve, drank far too much bubbly, and fell backwards– hitting my head on a door jamb. Not the funnest thing to fly home and not be able to rest your head on your seat because it has a giant, painful egg. Needless to say, bubbly and I haven’t been friends since that moment. One might call bubbly my arch nemesis. Upon ingestion of bubbly, I turn into a raving lunatic(even more so than usual). Despite all that, I can’t get enough of the stuff nowadays. I find that in moderation, it’s less of a bastard stepchild than say… tequila. I can say that because I am, in fact, a bastard stepchild. I stopped by here after an already full night of imbibing, upon the suggestion(no…I made him go) of another person who shall remain nameless. I’m secretive like that. Why we stopped, I don’t know, but I remember some interesting discussions and a peek at a driver’s license(which means I STILLREMEMBERHOWOLDYOUARE, GEEZER). I think we ate, and I know we drank. I was shocked that this place was empty, because it seemed like a cool place to hang out. I know we ate some food, although I can’t completely remember the quality, I know it was pretty tasty. All in all, I would suggest a visit back here to sample some bubbly and food… minus the door jamb fight.

I had high hopes for this place, but the two downfalls were the messed up bill and the less than stellar small plates. The bill had quite a few items that were on there that we didn’t order, we were brought a couple of wrong orders, and the waiter had a confused look on his face when he was bringing out some orders for other tables. Maybe he was new, but using paper and pen is ok with us. We had to figure out the bill and were almost late for our dinner reservation. I had the goat cheese bruschetta and mini red velvet cupcakes, and they were just ok. I would go back for the drinks at Mimosa Happy Hour though. The drinks were well made and at $ 4, they’re quite the deal. In order of what I liked best, honeydew, amaretto, and tropical, but I would get only the honeydew and amaretto in the future. You can find parking along the neighboring streets or at the nearby garage. We were there when the sun was still out so we probably didn’t get the whole feel of the place. They had two of the long tables reserved so we sat along the wall, but our group of 5 had to sit on the same side so I hope they have more smaller tables throughout in the future. Glad to finally come here to check it out and hoping to have a better experience next time.

Nice little spot with a pretty extensive wine, champagne, and other spirits list. For some off reason they had the movie Tombstone playing on the wall behind the bar with the subtitles on this Saturday. I still can’t figure that out. I mean, usually when you see this at a bar, it’s some abstract stuff, something just to add some movement and life to the room. But they were actually playing the movie… looking at Val Kilmer’s pale, dying ass was too much. I thought it was interesting that they have lounge settees in the single person restrooms. I mean, I don’t know about you, but I’m not bringing my girls in to chat me up while I sit to do my business. That’s just tacky. Mixed crowd was good, the orchids and candles were a pretty touch around the room, and the seats were comfortable for sitting and getting sophisticated tipsy. Oh, and the doorman is a niiiice touch.

Mimosa Champagne Lounge was packed on a Friday night and there was hardly anywhere to sit. Interesting side note is that even though they are called«Mimosa Champagne Lounge,» they only had like 4 mimosa options. I gave their honeydew mimosa a try and it tasted like a sour, 2 week old lime. Maybe it’s a safer bet to stick with the non-mimosa drinks. A $ 5 sangria was much more welcome and much tastier. I also tried their three flavor sorbet sampler which was quite small and a bit on the icy side so don’t expect a whole flavorful dessert dish. It was all right but nothing to rave about. All in all, a pretty neat place to hang out and get a drink on an Oakland evening with your typical Oakland crowd but don’t go expecting four star drinks and appetizers.

Had a very limited experience last night. Showed up right at opening for an after-work drink with coworkers, place was deserted apart from staff. Wasn’t there for nightlife, so didn’t have an issue, but we were the only customers there the whole time. AMAZING mimosa, ordered the Amaretto and found it nummy as hell and I loved that it was served in a thin tall glass.(I’m sure there’s an appropriate name for it, but I’m not going to bother to google it.) The menu looked delicious, and I’m eager to return to try some of the offerings. Has potential.

After waiting a couple of weeks since the Lounge has officially opened, I finally found the perfect companion to enjoy some bubbly with– an Italian– who works in the wine industry, no less. So, feeling amorous, yet critical(as per usual), we walked into the large space with high ceilings– done mostly in back, I love all of the candles and industrial warmth of the place. It is a more quiet, date spot. Huge windows– looking out on the YMCA across the street… sexyy! It’s further«Uptown» on Broadway than several other popular spots, so on a Wednesday night, not many people out and about, foot traffic wise, more random dudes just wondering down the street. Doesn’t feel like a popping location on a weeknight, but the people inside were there to drink and enjoy, so it felt pleasant inside overall. Nice music and a nice crowd. I know it’s a lot busier on weekends. All of the reviews here are addressing the ambiance and the love they feel for the people who opened it, and I wish Mimosa Lounge all the best, I truly do. BUT I was very disappointed in the Champagne menu. How do I say this without sounding either clueless or snobby? I’ll risk it, it’s only Unilocal, after all: their Champagne menu is ridiculous. Of course true Champagne is expensive, but come on. There is not a glass of bubbly under $ 12, and the $ 12 price points are primarily the sparkling wines. It took me 24 hours to realize– WTF, this place has no Prosecco? Is this true? Someone slap me if I’m wrong, because I’m a Prosecco nut! There is very, I repeat, very little value– they have 3 types of Moet champagnes(??), Cristal, of COURSE, we’re in Oakland, gotta be pimp, and a bunch of other bottles for $ 125.00 so people can seem classy and lavish… Yet dollar for dollar, what a total lack of value, with taste not making up for it. I’m all for decadence and being loose with my budget now and then– I mean, what better place then at a Champagne Lounge? But still, their margins just seemed a bit out of whack. Just a few other notes– they only serve beer and wine/etc, no liquor, and they serve red wine in low sorta chunky cups, not stem ware-so of course ‘my’ Italian was less than impressed with this detail; again, if you go out to try a new type of wine and can’t really look at it and swirl it around in your glass to at least look like you know what you are doing, what good is it?! I would love to see more California, Spain, and Italy on this list– and no, I’m not just repeating what my Italian companion said :) Hopefully the list will rotate now and then. I probably will not suggest this place to a bunch of girlfriends for a night out. If I’m with a guy who wants to high-roll, I will!

A real chill, classy place to hang out… would be a great date place! Of course, they had many options of champagne and mimosas(the pom one was refreshing), but they also had a tantalizing appetizer selection. The chef came out and said hello and was also helping to host. They seemed a little short staffed on cocktail waiters as we had to wait a bit to get our bill, etc, but we frequently had other people inquiring how we were, which was nice. I would go back!
