chinese restaurant in a small hidden plaza. we all ordered chicken phở and I liked it because it wasn’t too salty. a lot of restaurants put msg in the broth, if they did there wasn’t much. I love chicken gizzard and they had it with the young chicken. young chicken is the best because it is tender although not much meat on each piece of chicken but I don’t care about the amount over quality. will be back for sure. there is a hot foods section for those who want to buy roast duck, bbq pork and roast pork.

A while back, my mom told me that this place has the best roast duck. Since my husband loves roast duck and I was in the neighborhood, I bought one for him to try. Well, it wasn’t that great. It lacked flavor. A few months later, my mom wanted me to pick up dinner from here so I ordered a couple dishes for to-go. Their cooked dishes are actually pretty good. Décor is old and dirty. Customer service is ok. Every time I come here, it’s not busy and parking may be tough during peak hours.

They always randomly add a few dollars to your total. Price is different from the menu. When you argue with them they say its tax. But $ 7 plus tax is not $ 8.

Best roasted meats in the bay! Their recipe for the marination of Roast Duck and Roast Pork leaves me wanting more. The soy sauce chicken and salt steam chicken are also yummilicious. My only warning is that the free range chicken and salt steam chicken can be QUITE salty… the service is also moody, at best. The owner has his good days but his wife has never been nice to me or my family. If good service is important to you, DON’T go here. The roasted meats here are so good that I overlook the terrible service to come back often. On a side note, their entrees such as fried calamari, chow fun, fried fish, etc are also good but not enough that I want to deal with the not-so-nice service and having to mime out what I need/want to the waitress.

This place is good for the prepared meats. My dad buys their roast duck and roast pork almost every Sunday. Their customer service and food handling has improved. The owners are still mean though. He lets his friends cut in line and gives them the better pieces. And the woman is still moody no matter what day or time it is. The bald guy that works here is nice. He speaks English and Cantonese so it’s easy to communicate with him. He actually washes his hands before handling food and after when he takes payment. He’s the reason why this is a 3 star rating and not 2 stars. I didn’t notice that they take credit and debit until recently. If you pay using a credit card they charge tax, but if you pay cash they don’t.

Excellent tender Soy Sauce Chicken over rice. But keep tabs on the prices. They overcharged me by approximately one dollar twice already. The bill conveniently does not have prices written on it for you to double check the prices. We also heard another table complain about being overcharged as well. Simple mistake? Maybe. But I highly doubt it. Not if it happens so frequently. I won’t be back for a while. Integrity is important to me.

They have REALLY good roast pork. That’s all that’s good about this place. The lady that I deal with every time I order roast pork at the counter is unpleasant. I don’t understand her logic, why I can’t eat the pork that I bought from your business and eat it in your restaurant…

Bad service. The owner is a psycho owner lady. No matter what, you don’t yell at your customers. She picked on old ladies to yell at. She has a patience shorter than a fuse on a chinese firecracker. I will never give this restaurant any business. If you don’t believe me, walk in to the area where they are selling the chicken and pork to go. Look at that ugly«I don’t give a f***» look on her face and you will see it all through my eyes.

After watching the Niners beat the Saints. I was extremely hungry, So I hit my Unilocal Bookmark list at up Popped Minh Ky. I grabbed my PDI and jumped into my Weekend Whip cranked a little Eminem and rolled to Oakland. Minh Ky is located in New Chinatown. I was able to park my Whip in the Parking lot. I rolled in and was greeted and seated and given a menu and a glass of water. I perused the Menu and ordered the Roast Pork over Rice and the Seafood Hot Pot. My Waitress brought me a Bowl of House Soup. It was quite tasty. My Roast Pork over Rice came first .It was very lean and tender the Skin had the right amount of Crunch. The Seafood Hot Pot came next It was packed with Scallops, Shrimps, Black Mushrooms and Squid. Yummy and the Prices very fair for what you get. Cash only!!! And I rolled off in my Whip bumping 2 Live Crew. She Aint Nothing But A Hoochie Mamma!!!

I had a little Menage a Poultry today. Or should it be Poultry a Trois? I don’t know, but I had Duck & Chicken over rice at Minh Ky. I posted a photo of my lunch earlier and Mish L. commented and said«So simple but so good». She hit the nail right on the head. Like Leonardo DaVinci said: «Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.» Peking duck was perfected back in Bejing during the Imperial Era and according to CNN it’s number 5 on the World’s top 50 most delicious foods list. It’s fatty, greasy, and savory. The duck and chicken were equally tasty. Then for extra flavor some of the duck aus ju is poured on the rice. I’m not sure how the cabbage on the side fits in, but ever since I can remember its always been served with the duck, pork, chicken, etc over rice. You know how some Chinese restaurants serve that cabbage and it looks inedible, and taste even worst. Well at Minh Ky, the cabbage was delicious. All I need or want in a meal. Today OpenTable came out with the Michelin star winners for 2012. And when I looked at all the photos of the fancy food presentations at the Michelin star winners, I thought to myself, for a little over 6 bucks… I’d rather have a Ménage a Poultry.

This place is an average Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant with different selections of noodles and rice. I mean don’t expect anything fancy for prices that are cheap. They have a full BBQ stand section where you can order(bbq pork, roast duck/pork, soy sauce chicken, pigs ear/feet and etc) I wouldn’t say they have the best customer service, I mean every time I walk in there, it look like someone just died. No smiles or whatsoever. But anyways its not like their rude or nothing. I just come in to get my BBQ items and then I’m out.

I was really cranky when I wrote my original review of this place, but I keep going back. Everything I’ve had — when I know what to expect — has been really good.(And the wings, of course, are AMAZING.) You get a ton of food for a very reasonable price, and it comes out pretty quickly. I’d give it five stars, except that the Vietnamese rice plates are pretty bland, and the quality of the meat(in the dishes, not the butcher shop) has been a bit inconsistent.

This place is definitely not a fancy restaurant let me just say that. Don’t expect a exotic, authentic restaurant at the least. It is really just a kind of fast food Chinese sit down restaurant. This is a mix of a Chinese and Vietnamese style restaurant. But mostly Chinese though. They have a full BBQ area so you can buy pork and duck and stuff like that. I came here with my dad and he mostly ordered but the food was just very home-cooked, traditional food. Nothing too special or too fancy just something thats easy to fall back on when you don’t know where else to decide to eat because you know you will always get good food here. The prices aren’t bad range from $ 6-$ 10 for a well-sized portion lunch. Great home-style food. Been here at least 4 times now and will come again

This place has good food for a relatively cheap price and it has quite the selection of tasty treats. The only problem is that some times the waitresses are hostile and kind of rude and quick to serve and get you out of there, even if you’re the only ones eating there… I guess it was bad timing since i went in with only 1 hour till closing on a monday. I guess they wanted to get out of there. Another thing is that they gave me crap chicken pieces with no meat on them and that usually doesn’t happen but i figure it was also going along with the theme of «closing time». I never really like going to restaurants near closing but geez, if i ran a place i’d still try to be nice and make sure the customer is finished and not hurry them out the door. Anyways, bottom line, good food for cheap. I recommend the Chicken Noodles which is what i always get. Warning: Just don’t go there near closing which is 10 pm.

Damn this Place. This place is B.A.D. And I mean Bad meaning bad, not bad meaning good. The Phở ga and Free range chicken was decent but pack the rest in a heavy duty hefty bag because its gots to GO. its another one of those restaurants with non-english speaking waiters and waitresses. I tell her no bean sprouts on my chow fun and she doubles up on it. And they love to say the words«Yes, Yes» to everything, without even understanding what they’re saying Yes to. I asked her, Are you stupid? she replies, «Yes…Yes…» Dumb ass. Basically, it is what it is here. they have the«regulars» that loves this place to death and then theres people like me which cant stand it.

So i been trying to check out all the spots in Oakland that serve Phở Ga aka chicken noodle soup. I have been driving by this place for awhile now but never really thought about checking it out. Until i seen the sign that said Phở Ga on the awning. I think they categorized this place wrong, its not Vietnamese its more Chinese. Yes they do serve Phở Ga but everything else is like your typical Chinese restaurant. When i walked in the place the waitress lady was very quick to sit us down and bring us water. I ordered the Phở Ga and it came out with just noodles and soup. The chicken was on the side with some other innards. The soup itself was not too flavorful, but the chicken made up for it. The chicken was really tender for being free range chicken. The ginger sauce was just OK, i had better. The noodles were kind of on the hard side, but it was still tasty. Check out Rudy R’s pics, they show it with detail. Overall the next time i come back im going to be ordering some Chinese food instead of some Phở Ga. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t so good. 3 Stars for Minh Ky in Oakland

I actually preferred their old location. It was more of a hole in a wall place which warranted cheap decent food with horrible service. Now it actually looks like a decent place with cheat decent food with horrible service. Definitely a more traditional place that might put people who are not familiar with Chinese culture out of place. The boss lady kept yelling at her employees. And according to my brother she was yelling at the waitress about something for a good hour… probably not the happiest place to eat… On a good note I’m in love with their ox-tail pot and the salty egg fried crab! Those two dishes keep me coming back and back again. People come back for the chicken noodle soup too! The food overall is average but for their price it can not be beat even in this area! The food is not always consistent. My food yesterday was a bit salty. Overall I endorse this restaurant~! =D Food: 3 Service: 3 Environment: 4 Price: 5
