PALS EarthSource – Plywood And Lumber Sales

Been going here years. Great service and great products! Will source anything that they do not have and will get it in stock basically right a way. Extremely helpful all the time, great selection and most things are FSC certified. Cant get any better than PALS lumber.

I’m not a contractor or professional in any way shape or form. I guess you could call me a fairly new DIYer. I like to make and design furniture, but I’ve only been doing since the beginning of 2012 when I took a furniture design class in college. That said, when it comes to purchasing lumber, I’ve never had to do it myself as it was always available in limited supply at the shop I worked in at my college.
Now for my review: This is hands down probably the best I could ever expect from purchasing lumber for a first timer, which means this place is AWESOME. I went in on a Saturday morning and the gentleman working was incredibly polite and compassionate as well as incredibly helpful. He gave me a run down of what was available and where to find it and explained to me how its cut and milled and what ⁴⁄₄ and ⁵⁄₄ etc. means. I picked out my lumber which ended up being quite a bit and way too large to fit into the car, so I inquired about delivery. I was told the delivery cost was a whopping $ 25.00 (I couldn’t believe it was so affordable!!) and that it could be delivered Monday morning between 10am and 11am… SOLD!
Come Monday morning, I’m looking over my sketches for the bed frame I was planning to build and realized I might not have ordered enough, so when 8:00am came around, I called up PALS where a very helpful and polite woman named Noël answered the phone. I explained that I needed to add to my order and was willing, if it was an inconvenience, to change my delivery day. She said that it shouldn’t be a problem and that the wood could still be delivered in the time that was told to me on Saturday. She asked if I would want to come in and pick out the wood for myself or if I trusted the guys there to do it for me, I said I was comfortable with them picking it out, but was happy to come down if they didn’t feel comfortable. She took my number and called me back after finding the wood I needed based off what I had already chosen and the dimensions that I needed. So we were able to complete the transaction over the phone.
Delivery: The delivery of the wood arrived at about 9:30 am which is awesome cause it gave me a chance to write up this review before having to leave for work this morning! The Delivery guy was awesome, incredibly friendly and personable and helped me unload the wood into my garage.
I could not be more happy with my experience here and will most certainly return!

I love shopping local, especially at a place like this. Real people who are real friendly. Real wood! A great place to browse for unusual species to use on tabletops, etc.

I wrote a less than terrific review of PALS when they were going through a rough patch– but I’m so glad to see that their warehouse is back in W. Oakland with great hardwood and plywood selection and friendly staff… Welcome Back !

This is far better than the Home Depot made in China crap. Good people. Unusual selection of lumber.
Only downside?
You need to bring your own saw to break down sheets.

It is great to have found pals again in west Oakland (poplar north of grand). This place has a great stock of many varieties of hard to find wood, and for what they have, the prices are great. Staff is very helpful. Also, they deliver cheap so I don’t have to figure out how to get plywood home on the roof of the prius. The cherry plywood and boards are spectacular.

These guys are awesome! They have a great selection, the employees are super nice and really helpful. The prices are great and they will help you find what you want for a great price. I will come back for any projects requiring wood.

Looking for very thin sheets of plywood for a project. They had just what we were looking for at a great price. Paid and the friendly forklift driver followed me right out to my car and helped me load it — at lunchtime!

The first thing I like about this place is the staff. Ya know, the construction industry is full of arrogant jerks that want to macho and cool, therefore rude and full of contempt.
But these guys have always been super nice and helpful.
They have a lot of wood. Lots of variety. Not always what you go looking for, as wood is a commodity and stock changes all the time. Plywood is more consistent than the stock of hardwood.
Overall, this is my first choice for wood.

Great source for all things sustainably sheety. FSC-​certified and 100% recycled are much more common here than most any other supplier I deal with. The prices are great, and service has never been a problem for me. They even let me choose which 10 from their stock of hundreds of pre-​finished europly sheets I wanted to buy for a high end client not long ago… they really go out of their way to keep customers happy.

Most of their sales are to contractors and cabinet shops, but they don’t mind if you poke through their hardwoods. I just pop my head in the office and tell them what I’m up to. I’m also mindful of forklifts and heavy machinery. It is a working warehouse.
They have a pretty good selection of hardwood, both exotic and domestic. Sometimes they have clearance specials. Most of their hardwood is S2S, but I’ve found rough sawn as well. Pricing is decent, especially considering the ridiculous prices that Southern Lumber demands for its S4S wood. If you’re considering a UPS pack from a mail order mill, stop by EarthSource and take a look first.
Their selection of sheet goods is extensive as well, from lots of hardwood plywood to weird stuff like lightweight MDF.
Service has been impressive. I’ve bought a few big piles of wood for projects and they’ve always loaded it for me. This might be an industry standard, but for a Home Depot warrior, it’s a luxury.

These guys were «green» before it was cool.
They have been selling eco-​friendly products since 1997. They carry flooring for your home, all kinds of beautiful woods and now carry eco-​friendly patio furniture. They have a little showroom. The staff is VERY helpful and knowledgable since they have been doing it for so long.
They also have a HUGE selection. Unusual woods from around the world. All earth friendly.
If you want some wood, go there instead of Home Depot.
