I have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. I house sit a block away from here quite often, so I make a call and place an order(#11), get there about 6 minutes later and my food is wrapped up waiting on a table ready to be paid for and taken to go. Everything separated nicely to be put in as you’d like when you get home(I’ve been to places where they put the meat in the broth and it gets overcooked by the time you’re ready to eat it :////) Great flavor, could enjoy it even if it was only meat, noodles, and broth. Of course all the other bits don’t hurt lol. Also, great portion sizes. Make it an extra large(only 7.50 if memory serves me right) and eat for 2 meals, this comes from someone who likes to eat a lot at time LOL. Great phở, fast service, open relatively late, affordable af. Nothing better~

Worst phở ever. Only came to this place because my top two phở places were closed already(nothing else open after 8pm) and I regret it so much. Meat was old, yellow and plastic looking. Also they added only 1⁄3 of the noodles that usually come in the regular bowl. Therefore I basically just ate broth. Part of my noodles looked weird like it was some sort of spiky texture. Eww! You know that something is wrong when you question your foods appearance and texture. Gross! Plus the lady that took our order rolled her eyes. Smh don’t work here if you don’t like your job. I’m sticking to Phở Ao Sen on E.12th and 11th Ave.

Pretty good veggie phở, and shrimp fried rice. Ideal for a quick week night’s dinner, or to eat before catching a movie or going out to a party on a Friday night. Super fast service! Lots of space, doubt you’ll ever have to wait to be seated.

This is definitely my wife and I’s go-to phở restaurant. The phở here is AMAZING, and you seriously can’t beat the price either! If you like beef, I definitely recommend trying the #12, which is the«eye of round and well done brisket». The broth is very tasty, and they offer a plethora of optional seasonings and sauces you can add to the soup, but because it’s so tasty on its own, i usually only add just a little bit of sriracha sauce, just to give it a little bit of a kick. I should also mention the amount of food you get is more than plentiful. You won’t leave hungry, and we usually end up bringing home leftovers! I can’t really say anything about the other dishes they offer, as I’ve only had the phở, but my wife has had the vegetable curry with tofu, and she was very pleased with it. She said the curry is very flavorful. The service here is always good. The owners and staff are always very friendly, and the food always comes very quickly. It isn’t the most fancy or extravagant place, but it definitely has its charm. It’s a clean and well maintained restaurant, and that’s what matters more to me, over some sort of overly elaborated decore. If you’re looking for a great bowl of phở at an unbeatable price, friendly service, and going somewhere where there aren’t a bunch of pretensious people hanging about, then definitely give this place a shot. This will always be my favorite phở place! We go at least once every other week. Sometimes once a week. Especially during the cold months! Oh! And also try the boba! The strawberry is AWESOME!

The Phở is always hot and delicious. I like the Bun Bo Heun but the broth is a little fishy tasty and its very spicy(in a good way). One of my go-to spots when I’m visiting Lake Merritt. Plus they have great hours

Walked in and no one greeted us. Lady made eye contact with us as we sat down on our own. She came by to get our orders and looked like she didn’t want to be there. Ordered shrimp spring rolls, a regular phở dac biet, and a large phở dac biet. The spring rolls were so small??? The order came with 6 pieces — shrimps were small and there was a lot more noodle than lettuce. The bean sprouts were somewhat brown and didn’t look fresh at all. The large phở dac biet had slightly more noodles than the regular. Large came with only 1 piece of tendon and the regular came with 2 pieces of tendon — what’s up with that??? Slices of beef looked like they were cut from a frozen chunk of beef. The ice in the cups of water looked 80% melted and they seemed to have been kept in the fridge. So disappoint, never again.

Place has very decent Phở. Today I had the Bun Bo Hue, not that decent… but then this place is not known for their Bun Bo Hue… so bad on me!

I was hoping that they would have broken rice plates, but the regular rice plates are pretty good. I love the grilled pork chop! The restaurant is pretty spacious and it’s great for a fast meal under $ 10, whether you’re in the mood for phở, rice plates, or noodle plates. Yum! Upon arrival, seat yourself and order from the menus that are tucked into the glass tabletops. Metered street parking only!

No sign anywhere but apparently cash only… really? That is unheard of in the middle of Oakland!

Their customer service was okay. Food was great. The only complaint I had was that we got our food last being in a large group of people, I understand but she had to come back three times to ask what we were waiting for. Their bathrooms were clean and outside weather was super hot and when we walked in the a/c was not on. I give them 3 stars

I ordered the vermicelli dish here. I don’t remember which number it was but it wasn’t very good. It was missing something. I ate my whole bowl but only because I hadn’t eaten anything all day and it was already 2 in the afternoon. I know their phở is decently good here but it was just way too hot on the day that I came here. I don’t like to put down a Vietnamese restaurant but the vermicelli here was just ok. It could be better but it didn’t fulfill me the way that it should.

I use to actual like this place but over time It’s just gotten really bad the portions have shrunk and the seafood has gotten spoiled and stinky, smelly seafood that’s a tell tale sign, dirty glass. This last time was just bad. cleanliness is a huge issue from the glasses to the sticks with this place now, I got sick the last this last time I ate here I think it was the pork roll or seafood, I then went to pay the lady freaked out cash only she kept barking at me I the paid she wouldn’t take a bill cause it had a small tear in it I said I just got it at the bank, she got really angry and barky. getting hateful over a tear? I get it eat pay get out, but they’ve gotten so bad I live so close but have tried to avoid going due to the lack of decent service and quality it’s now turned kinda really BAD, meat seems off, as in smellier I looked at my side plate and if put most of the meat was there, its just cheap bad cuts sinewy, watered down more than a broth searing hot which has been known to try to mask bad flavors over wrought, and my personal which annoys me stale noodles which again you can tell by the color of broth after it cools. white froth like. location isnt everything just drive over to 12th or 14th there’s quite a few more better phở places with good quality and pleasantness. Also you cannot address a thing with these guys they act as if they don’t understand I have lived over here since 1999 they understand. I stopped going for a while Id kinda blocked how bad it had gotten, over time came back but I see over time this was a mistake.

As you can see from my profile, I’ve been to quite a lot of phở restaurants and this would not be my top 10 choice. But, it is popular to the American folks probably because its located right by Lake Merritt. I ordered a regular size phở with steak and tripe. I’m usually picky when it comes to how the tripe looks and this place was actually up to par. However, the bowl was quite deceiving. It looked like a regular size until I «tossed» my noodles around and it was definitely fit for a small size. But it was still filling for me because I’m petite size. The soup was alright and could have used a few more green onions and cilantro. I didn’t want to add bean sprouts or basil because the bean sprouts appeared old or left out for a really long time. It had that brown color that you can tell it was time to buy fresh bean sprouts. It didn’t look clean. I dont think I would come back unless I absolutely had to. Its not that bad but I definitely can get better from a few blocks down.

I have no idea why they have such a low rating here. Being that it is the most convenient Phở shop on the block, directly across from Lucky’s and next to a bar, I say it’s pretty damn good. Service is exactly what you expect out of a Phở shop: curt, fast, and they never check in on you. So for that I give them 1 star because I only really care about getting my food when I go there. Food: I almost always order the same thing: Phở Tai Nam Gan, or phở with rare sliced steak, flank steak, and tendon. Be sure to ask for the sliced steak on the side, and squeeze a little lemon/lime juice on it. I prefer to dip it and cook it enough to be rare, then dip that in sriracha and enjoy. For that 3 stars. It’s not the best Phở in the world in comparison the the ones I’ve had in Vietnam or even living in SoCsl with tons of Vietnamese people, but it’s better than a lot of places I’ve tried so far.

Mediocre meats seem to hold back the decent broth, but it’s standard affair and not much else. There’s not even any music or TV playing in the background while you enjoy your meal. Talk about spartan. Location seems to be the biggest plus here. Not too far from the lake and not deep in downtown or East Oakland. If time isn’t on your side, I can see this being an acceptable option. Service is friendly and fast, so no complaints there. Average affair phở and a convenient location, but there are certainly better options out there if you’re willing to make the trip.

I live very close to this phở place and I really want to like it, but the food here is horrible. My boyfriend and I ordered a phở, bbq chicken vermicelli, and a bbq port chop rice plate. The phở and rice plate was okay, nothing great… Below average compared to other places. The chicken vermicelli was horrible! The chicken was dry and tasteless. Overall, I won’t coming back.

They still have tasty broth and a really good BBQ chicken bun. I walked away with an msg headache though. I think my body’s becoming too old for salty foods. But I will never give up phở. Even with the headaches. Maybe I would look for msg-free phở places. Sigh.

After my mom’s visit to the Frank Kiang Medical Center, we decided to dine at this restaurant as we were hungry for a late lunch. My husband and I ordered the chicken/prawn clay pot rice, which was quite good. It was piping hot and I had to let my lunch cool down some. The veggies were fresh, not overcooked, and overall it was pretty good. The portion was generous. My mom’s bbq chicken was moist and tender — she enjoyed it. I would have given this restaurant a 4 star, but the only thing I had an issue with was one of the employees who was standing in the kitchen doorway constantly gave my husband(who is black) the stare down for some unknown reason, which I consider rude.
