Smart Herbs and Teas

This place is LONG GONE. It closed a while ago. I don’t think it had very convenient hours. I tried to go a few times.

I loved this place. Stopped by today and, like so many things I love, it was too good for this world. :(

I love this place so much. I stop in about once a week. I call them the tea ladies. They are just the best when it comes to customer service and knowledge of the teas. They make special blends that are just wonderful. The prices are just so amazing.
I am sad though because Today as we drove by the store the sign in the window said it has closed do to the economics. The sign also said they still have teas and will deliver. I have emailed the ladies to see if they will continue to get teas for sale or if they are just trying to get rid of there remaining product. I hope they will continue to be selling teas. I will be a loyal customer. I will update when I hear back from them…

I wish all small businesses were more like this one… attentive, thoughtful, personalized service with a laidback small town feel, but in a big city. The owners were very helpful in describing the different teas and allowing me to smell each one. Their rooibos blends, including caramelized pear and mango lassi, are easily my new favorite teas. I can’t wait to try some of their other exotic blends. Please support them if you’re in the ‘hood and love tea instead of buying that next box of crappy Celestial Seasonings tea at Safeway!

Awesome. The nettles they gave me did some work on my allergies. I was also surprised how CHEAP loose leaf is compared to tea bags. Will definitely be doing all of my future tea shopping here!

I just had the most lovely visit with Marva at Smart Herbs and Teas. How did I not know about this place until now?! My friend gave me a little sample of their Madagascar Vanilla Rooibos the other day and I had to go back for more. Marva let me smell a bunch of other teas, so I also had to buy some French Crème Rooibos.
But the real reason I visited is that I’ve been sick more than I’ve been well this winter — cold after cold after cold — and my friend suggested that the gals at Smart Herbs and Teas might be able to mix up a medicinal blend. I went in and told Marva what had been going on with my health and she asked a few questions and then mixed up a custom blend of oat straw, rose hips, pau d-​arco and orange peel to help with my symptoms and my immunity. How cool is that?!
All of the teas are loose leaf and organic and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for what you’re getting. I almost can’t wait to finish this batch of teas so that I can visit again.

LOVE Smart Herbs and Teas, Marva and Jeanie are as helpful as they come. I went in their with bruising from anemia and they made me a blend that has helped tremendously. Whenever I don’t feel 100% this is one of the places I go, just walking in their is uplifting and calming. Also, they are interested in my kombucha making!

I was sick during one of my visits to this Lake Merritt gem, and Marva and Jeanie blended an herbal tea to make me well. I’d never had that experience before, a custom tea blended just for me and my symptoms. Needless to say I brewed and drank it joyfully. It was delicious! Over conversations in their shop, I learned that Marva and Jeanie come from a family tradition that uses herbs to promote well being. I feel lucky that they are sharing this tradition with Oakland. They’re my only tea supplier at this point, and I’m pretty happy about it.
My favorite right now is Silver Needles, one of their white teas.

Such a pleasant place to visit. Their jasmine pearl is great.

A recent addition to Grand Avenue is a charming purveyor of teas and tea accessories. The owners Marva and Jeanie Cadle offer guests a warm welcome to their cozy shop Smart Herbs and Teas. There is a wide assortment of loose teas of the highest quality in all varieties. It’s a great place to find your favorite beverage with plenty of advice from the two ladies. Reasonable prices and a good assortment of teas.
