Definitely an off the beaten path joint for authentic Mexican food. A few blocks from fruitvale Bart station this place is sorta hidden away on international blvd and easy to miss if you are not on the lookout. Exterior is very unassuming and may be a turn off for some. But def go in and check it out. Staff were very friendly and explained the different options that were available. 1. House special was a pumpkin flour quesadilla with pork skin and mushrooms. Definitely not your typical quesadilla. I liked it a lot. The flavor of the quesadilla was very unique and tasty. Meat was flavorful. Add a little salsa and delicious. Abt $ 8 2. We had a chorizo soft taco. Tortilla was lightly grilled with a layer of oil that was actually perfect for me. Size a bit small but typical of tacos I guess. $ 2 3. Gordita was also quite good, sorta like a stuffed pastry. The filling was very flavorful and the gordita skin was full of corn flavor. 4. At the rec of the nice waitress we had another house special. Forgot the exact name but was sorta like a large torta. Large load of bread that was lightly toasted with perfect char filled with meat sour cream lettuce. Absolutely delicious. Very very good flavors and all the dishes were very hot which is a pet peeve of mine. The only part that may be A bit disconcerting to some is the location. But all in all it was a good meal!

I love tacos de vapor! It was my first time eating these steamed tacos of deliciousness on Sunday. I ordered four tacos, the suadero, carne asada, lengua, and pastor. They were all so delicious. The red/green sauce that they give you is fresh and goes well with the tacos. I’ll definitely be coming back for more tacos!

On behalf of Xicana Moratorium Coalition we want to appreciate La Gran Chiquita for their donation to support the 36th Annual Xicana Moratorium Day, where we will be bringing attention to the Third World Liberation – One Land One People, taking place August 30th, 2015 from 12−5pm at San Antonio Park in Oakland. Their donation made possible this annual free event for people of color in the Bay Area.

Amazing, authentic Mexican tacos at a really great price! The moment I walked in, the owner of the restaurant greeted me with a firm handshake and made me feel like I was heading over to lunch at my family’s house. Really welcoming and pleasant customer service. The food was great. The tacos were served with a side of chips and homemade salsa, and also grilled onion, grilled nopal, lime, and red radish. I liked how they also included two different types of salsa on the side, allowing me to put on exactly the right amount of salsa. The tortillas were warm and appeared to be handmade, but I’m not too sure. All in all, I received great customer service, and paid $ 7.66 after tax for four asada tacos. Great place to go, and I highly recommend it.

Awesome place with a wide variety of cheap and tasty tacos. The staff is prompt and friendly, and the location is close to Fruitvale BART.

I love this place! My family and I go out of our way to come here on the weekends. and we’ve never had a bad meal. With that being said, La Gran Chiquita specializes in Mexican street food from Mexico city. We go there for the Quesadillas de huitlacoche, chicharon, the barbacoa and consome. No burritos for us,(not authentic mexican food) anyway I have no idea what people are talking about when they say this place isn’t good. I highly recommend it if you want real mexican cooking.

La Gran Chiquita Taqueria has an amigo at it’s window grilling meats, making burritos, tacos, etc. i thought it was for show. nope. it’s the real deal. didn’t see pricing anywhere. booths on both sides of eatery filled with hungry, eating mexicans. not a gringo in sight. looks like everyone had a soup dish or menudo. sampling: «beef burrito»(3.99)pretty good sized burrito –unique taste with plenty of rice, beans, and not chewy beef –accompanied by container of extra hot homemade sauce, «fresh» commerical round chips, and salsa for chips. frijoles refritos: –definitely a go to place for authentic mexcian food. –unsure if menu was in spanish only, didn’t look. –cordial, efficient service…

I like the breakfast and that fact that we have to order in Spanish. Love it!

La Gran Chiquita has some of the best Mexican food that I’ve tried in a restaurant, at least with what my boyfriend and I ate, so I’m surprised that it got such low scores previously. My boyfriend and I ate the tacos de barbacoa, which are the specialty of the house, and the chicken mole poblano. Both tasted delicious. The barbacoa I found to be very flavorful with a good level of moisture and my boyfriend and I also enjoyed the mole a lot. The corn tortillas were thick, flexible, and flavorful– not the nasty, thin, store-bought kind that crumble and make your tacos fall apart. The service also is 5 star quality. The food came out quickly and the owner, Arturo introduced himself to us by name. He and the server were both very friendly and welcoming and asked us how we enjoyed the food. I think that the previous bad reviews can be attributed to the other owners as described below, so I encourage people to give this restaurant a shot cause it’s yummy and the people working there couldn’t be nicer!

I’m a nice person and until the other day I can honestly say that I have been a person who finishes their food. I was just always told that it was rude not too,(I know, I know it’s a complex) but La Gran Chiquita is another story. Do not eat there! I beg you spare yourself the stomach pain and nausea! Their food is either bland or caked in saltiness. I frequent the Fruitvale all the time and like to try new places, but trust me you are taking a chance if you eat here. CHAD

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. If I could give negative stars they would get at least 5(negative that is). So, my partner and I normally stroll down the fruitvale and get us some good eats. Now, it’s fairly easy to find good grub in the fruitvale but, apparently not this horrid day. Now, why was it a horrid day you ask? Well, thank La Gran Chiquita Taqueria. I ordered one gordita with chorizo and papas and two tacos– one pastor and one lengua. Alright, I’ve had plenty of tacos and gorditas in my day so I do not come from little to no experience. The one taco I did eat was absolutely bland and scarce on the sides. I only received one fourth of a lime wedge and one slice of turnip. I felt like I was chewing simply to chew. No flavor. Damn, how is that possible? No flavor at all in lengua?! I thought perhaps it was just me until I looked up and saw the look on my partners face. His burrito looked hideous. Like some mutated in between from taco bell and poo. He stated that it was ridiculously salty. I tried it and could not disagree. Did they decide to bathe the«beef» in salt? I, being as optimistic as any hungry broke college student could be, decided to try my gordita. Disgusting. Dry. Oh yes, their chips were straight out of a bag and their salsa was nothing any restaurant should even attempt to put out as salsa. So, to top of the lovely evening, I politely attempt to explain my worries of the food just(not) consumed to the man behind the counter. He simply says «Oh si, hmmm. No se que decir.mh.» (Oh yes, hmmm. I don’t know what to say. mh.) and turns away. Screw you La Gran Chiquita Taqueria! Can you give me back my time, money, and heal my poor poor intestines that screamed out bloody murder after being thoroughly stabbed by you?!

You may think you’re THEMAN because you’ve had lengua(cow tongue) tacos/burritos. That’s for amateurs. This restaurant serves cow throat, cow eyes, and cow lips tacos. All okay but, each one tasted the same to me. Soft and squishy, except the eye taco, which had a snappy crunch to it. I really couldn’t tell if the cow was kissing me or winking at me. Other more«normal» meats, soups, burritos are okay, nothing special. Salsa could be less juicy though. Service was also okay. They take credit cards.
