I am a firm believer in treating your shoes right and repairing — not replacing. I am also incredibly loyal to my repair shops once I’ve found them. That being said, never have I felt so disrespected as when I came here. I walk in, smile, and place my pair on the glass table. I tell the guy behind the counter that I need my taps replaced and ask how much. «$ 14,» he says. «Okay,» I say and start to fill out a work order form. That’s a fair price. «$ 15.» I look up, mid-sentence in my form. «But you just said $ 14?» «With tax it’s $ 15.» «Oh okay,» I say, finishing my sentence and handing him the finished form. «Great! I’ll see you Satur-« “You owe deposit.» I’ve never paid a deposit on a repair job, but he hasn’t lost me entirely. Maybe he’s jaded from too many orphaned shoes, but I’m starting to feel a bit weird about this transaction. «A deposit? How much?» «Half. For you, $ 10.» I pause confused. «But half is $ 7. $ 10 is half of $ 20.» He gives me a look like I’ve done something criminal. And I get the feeling that it would be $ 20 to pick up the shoes… Or that the shoes cost more because I asked to pick them up 5 days from now on a Saturday. And when I watch him finishing the blanks on my form, I see him write $ 15 in the subtotal line for what I’ll owe when I pick up the shoes. Weird? I think weird. I tell him I don’t have cash for a deposit on me and he pushed the shoes toward me, suggestive of «well then, you leave.» Happily. No surprise, when I came the front window had been shattered. Thought it was weird then, but not anymore. What a shame.

These folks do not stand by their work! Brought in 3 pairs of shoes to be repaired, cost $ 120– cash– upfront– shop policy. The work looked good, I brought them home. When my wife put them on she noticed one pair missing an insole and another missing a stud. Went back to the shop to find missing bits — after some prodding they found the insole — but told me the missing stud must be my fault or that I brought it in that way– there was no way they could replace it! Why would I pay $ 40 to get a shoe fixed if there was an irreplaceable stud? Don’t waste your money here!
