The Great Frame Up

I can’t say enough good things about The Great Frame up in Oakland. Rosemary and Percy, the owners, are just the best. If you have art that you really care about and want to present it in the best possible way, look no further. They are just the best! Rosemary has an incredible eye for color, texture and dimension and can create really beautiful framing ideas for you. Percy is meticulous in his framing for just an amazing product. Besides all of that, they are so sweet and fun that you look forward to seeing them and working with them.
They have framed, over 10 pieces for me, mostly original art, and I have been extremely happy with the beautiful results
To be sure, this is high end framing and is not for someone looking for a quick or cheap bargain. If you are looking for the best, come here!

The Great Frame Up has done an amazing job of several pieces for me including a 1950s map of Africa that I got at a vintage shop. The large map had water damage and peeling and they were able to restore/​stretch it and frame it beautifully.
They have framed everything from a professional photo of my children to those same children’s art work. The owners are incredibly talented, professional, friendly and efficient. They made suggestions on which frames and matte look best and it was clear that they care about their work and pay great attention to detail. The prices were also fair. I look forward to getting a few more pieces done by them and love that they are so close by.

I have had the good fortune to work with Percy and Rose for 10 years, both at their former Rockridge location, and at their new location. I have brought them unique fine arts of all kinds collected during my travels around the globe, and they have never been at a loss for just the right creative framing suggestions and techniques. They are SUPERB framers, and incredibly kind and nice people to boot, who go more than the distance to help in any ways needed. For a recent example, I had just had major surgery, and my brother was in town for only one week to take care of me, and also rehang all my art after moving back to Berkeley from another state. I presented Percy and Rose with nine precious new artworks, including museum quality works from Vietnam and Turkey. They helped me decide on just the right mattes and frames and completed all of them in a remarkably short time for my brother to pick them up and hang them, even though they had to order two frames. For each and every artwork, they have been excellent at finding just the right shapes, textures, and colors of mattes and frames to accentuate core details, colors, and shapes of every artwork, even for difficult «matches.» They are also highly skilled at difficult framing jobs, and think of just the right creative suggestions that a non-​professional would never think of, e.g., they did museum quality framing of 6 Karagoz puppets — by two master artists in Istanbul — by suspending them between glass, with exquisite linen mattes, and elegant multihued frames, that gave the impression of dynamic floating movement with no fixation obvious, and showing the many colors of the puppets to best effect. They will also order just the right frame or matte if they don’t have it in the store. I honestly think there is no framing job they could not do at the highest standard of their profession. As a result, I would never have anyone else do my framing. Easy parking now too, compared to the old location!

I have been coming to this store for framing for almost 20 years. The owners are courteous, patient and know how to do a quality job in frame/​mat selection and execution. Their work is priced within market-​range and they have always delivered their goods on time if not early.
I can’t say enough good about these two — upon learning they moved from College Ave in Rockridge to Telegraph Ave in Temescal, I immediately went the extra ½ mile to support a local business which I’ve been loyal to for years.
The latest work they did for me is great, and if course I’m coming back!

Percy and Rose are very professional and patient. They are incredibly pleasant to interact with and I love the way my things came out. My degrees are in unique frames with perfectly cut color matched mats behind UV protective glass. They look one thousand times better than they would if I’d let the University contractors do it. I love their showroom, with the vertical markup so you can post your piece and the mats and frames right there — it’s so clever. I would trust any precious thing to the Great Frame Up to be properly ensconced.

This is the Great Frame Up that used to be on College Ave across from Zachary’s. Percy and Rose are super nice and will always give you the best deal. I highly recommend them for all your framing. And it’s much easier to park at the new location.
