U-Pack Moving

U-​Pack was amazing. We moved from Omaha to Florida and used U-​Pack. I initially read the Unilocal reviews and was really scared to use them. I called the company we had packing the truck and then U-​Pack several times to verify how things worked and what I could do to safeguard my belongings. Day of, U-​Pack called and was able to drop off the truck early due to a pending snow storm. The packers came and we ended up using about 26 feet. We could not get the ramp into the truck, so we left it on the ground at the back of the truck. Then I called and the truck was gone. It made it to Florida before we did (I paid for a guaranteed delivery date), and the driver was super nice. It took a day or two for them to pick up the truck after it was unloaded, but it was sitting at our storage unit so it was not a huge deal. I would HIGHLY recommend U-​Pack and would DEFINITELY use them again!

We used U-​Pack Moving for our very recent move from Connecticut to Arizona and it was EXCELLENT!!! Exactly what they advertised, what we expected and were looking for! We had already packed all our belongings and put them in a storage unit, so we then moved everything in the storage unit into the trailer they delivered to the storage facility. It’s important that all boxes are packed well, and extremely important that everything packed into the trailer is packed tightly (to prevent shifting during transit) and restrained with ropes and ratchet straps. We packed everything carefully and had excellent results!
U-​pack provided excellent communication at all times via emails, text messages and phone calls on both ends. The trailer arrived when expected in Connecticut and in Arizona, as well. Took about 10 days to get to Arizona, which was exactly what they estimated. It was a very cost effective move for us and actually cost less than estimated because we packed everything so tightly that we used much less trailer space than expected!
I would highly recommend them to anyone willing to do the packing, careful loading, and unloading themselves. We had a terrific experience with U-​Pack moving!!!

Everything went pretty well with U-​Pack aside from the final delivery. I was originally quoted a price for door to door delivery with a start date and a delivery date established. I moved from SF to Seattle and when we arrived in Seattle I received a call from the local storage facility saying that my pod had arrived and that if I wanted it delivered on the originally established drop off time, I would have to pay an extra fee. I wish this had be mentioned ahead of time.
Also make sure that you have a couple of locks (the size of locker room locks) as these are not provided.

For cross-​border (US/​Canada) moving, I highly recommend U-​Pack. I used U-​Haul to move from San Francisco to Vancouver = nightmare. I used U-​Pack to move back from Vancouver to San Francisco = great.
It was about the same price as U-​Haul, but they were 1000x more professional. The Surrey office set me up for the move, and the Oakland office received me. Everyone knew their stuff, were organized, helpful and friendly, and everything went smoothly. I used one pod to pack up my bedroom and a few kitchen things.
I recommend choosing U-​Pack pods!

They only get one-​star because I can’t pick 0. I will never use U-​Pack again. I recently moved from Houston to Oakland, CA. I chose U-​Pack because it seemed like the best option for moving a small amount of items quickly. I used the ABF pods and when my items arrived in Oakland — ALL of my items were damaged! My bedroom set that was just over a year old had scratches all over it (bed, dressers, and nightstand) and even one of my drawers had a hole in it. ALL of my boxes were severely ripped. It was clear that they flipped the pod upside down at some point. The worst part is although they damaged all of my items, their damage policy only covers 10% per pound if you prove they damaged it – which will cover nothing. The Oakland facility itself was very slow with getting my pod out (30 minutes +) so the movers could move, although I gave them the 3 hour head-​up as required. If you value any of the things you’re moving, find another company.

Customer service on the phone sounds nice, but the results don’t match what they say! HUGE miscommunications between customer service and actual service. Below is a list of all the things that were miscommunicated. Maybe someone at U-​Pack might read ( Unilocalers need not endure). Also DON’T GO THROUGH MOVING STAFFERS. Read 3^rd paragraph for reasons, last paragraph is specifics.
Dispatch will say the driver is on the way, when they’re not. They say that you’ll receive a call or text before arrival, but you don’t, and the drivers will all say «I don’t know why dispatch says that. They don’t give us your phone number.» Crazy for a 4 hour window. They said we could call for cube pickup by 4pm because «we’re only 1 hour away.» Called for cube pickup at 1p, only to have loud pickup noises at 10:30p. Some drivers are competent and know exactly where to put the cubes (awesome!). Others will take no responsibility, say they need your explicit instructions, and then don’t follow them — one cube was facing the wrong direction, another cube was placed so tight, we almost couldn’t open the doors wide enough for the movers. I was also charged for all 3 cubes and storage, many days after they knew I had only used 2 cubes and no longer needed storage (a change they said would be «no problem at all.») I am now waiting a week for a refund (I had to explicitly call and re-​explain the changes that had happened before the refund began processing). Why claim to be so flexible if your bill processing can’t keep up? There was also confusion about whether the empty cube might have been delivered on accident.
They will suggest you book help through MOVING STAFFERS — DON’T DO IT. Moving Staffers charges exorbitant fees, and charges for both loading AND unloading service 3 days before your LOADING date (meaning they charge you for unloading days or weeks in advance of your actual unload). They book local anyway, so do your own research to find a better deal and know that you’re getting well-​reviewed movers.
My loading experience was great (shoutout to Ecnomove Delivers in Richmond). My unloaders, although the guys were fast to do the actual unloading, came 1 hour outside of their arrival window. Again, they said I would receive a phone call, but had to call myself to figure out what was going on. The driver did call 30 minutes before his arrival (it was actually 45), but 15 minutes AFTER the end of the window and after I had to call dispatch. At least call before the end of the window to say you are coming late, that would be less of a problem. If you complain to Moving Staffers, they lean on the «all times are approximate and not guaranteed» excuse. What is the point of a time window? Moving Staffers won’t take responsibility for the movers they choose, they won’t apologize/​sympathize or make any notes for maybe not using that company in the future. My feedback fell on deaf ears.

The money i saved was not worth it. Late delivery times. Unable to provided exact delivery time. Customer service lacking when trailer was not delivered on «probable» time. Very unhappy with upack overall. Wish i used pods and spent a little more and gotten better service. I will update this rev: my friends used pods to move from Boston to Austin, it arrived on time and no problems. Spend the few hundred extra and use pods is my 2 cents.

I will not ever use this company again, if you are military don’t ever think about using UPACK. This company will not work with you to find a solution, but they will take your money. WHETHER YOU ARE MILITARY OR CIVILIAN STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

If I could go lower, I would. I hired UPACK, received the reservation paperwork, email confirmation etc. So I waited for the delivery. Come 4pm no delivery. I call and come to find out, oops we are so sorry but we overbooked and we have no trailers for you today, tomorrow, Sunday [bc remember they do not work on the weekends], maybe Mon or Tues or Wed but we can’t promise. So sorry, now you go figure out how you are going to get down to your sick child who is all alone in a hospital waiting for his family, who is back several states away depending on UPACK to fulfill their legal obligation to the contract they entered. But they aren’t they could care less, its’ not them this affects. But I bet if it did affect one of them, the CEO, bet they would find a trailer then.
But they did offer to do their best, they’d try to get it to me by Monday, 3 days late and would be glad to compensate me 300 $ for the inconvenience. 300 $ Really? I have to now store all my belongings and pay for that, I then have to get a hotel that accepts dogs and pay for that, pay for meals, and now pay for movers all because you all lied to me. The manager admitted that they have been having this issue for the past few weeks now, but when I asked why didn’t you all tell me this upfront… silence. Oh that’s right bc no one would hire you if you honestly told them that you couldn’t guarantee a trailer but you’d try your best. This sounds a lot like intentional fraud to me;
«A false representation of a matter of fact – whether by words or by conduct, by false or misleading allegations, or by concealment of what should have been disclosed – that deceives and is intended to deceive another so that the individual will act upon it to her or his legal injury.»
But they aren’t worried about one small time client, they have an army of lawyers who will crush you.

The good: UPack delivered our empty trailer right on time, got our things safely from Atlanta to Denver within the specified time frame, and delivered the loaded trailer to our new place on the correct day. Nothing was damaged (except for a few small things that were due to our own amateur loading job). It was nice to be able to pay by the foot of trailer space used since we used more than anticipated.
The not-​so-​good: The trailer is HUGE. The driver could barely fit the empty trailer in our driveway and it took up 6 spaces in our new apartment complex. It was impossible for us to load the trailer efficiently (ie, to the roof of the trailer) because of how high it was. None of this is UPack’s fault — but just be sure you know what you are in for! I would definitely hire professional movers to load the trailer since it is essentially impossible for an amateur to safely stack things high enough to use the space effectively.
The bad: Getting the loaded trailer dropped off was a hassle. They refused to give us any idea of when the trailer might be delivered until the day of delivery, and required someone to be present at the dropoff of the trailer, making it very difficult. to plan and coordinate since the dropoff could occur any time within a 12-​hour window.
The pickup of the empty trailer in Denver has been a nightmare. So far I have called 5 times and the trailer is still taking up space in our parking lot. My new neighbors are angry and UPack staff has been rude and unhelpful. As soon as the trailer was dropped off, I called to schedule pickup the next day (a Thursday) and let them know it would be ready after 6 PM. Someone arrived earlier in the day and tried to haul away the still-​loaded trailer before realizing it had not been unloaded. I would not have known about this if someone in the apartment complex had not told me about it.
I called again to schedule pickup of the trailer and was told it would be picked up the next day (Friday). Nobody ever came. Saturday morning I called again and was told no pickup had been scheduled (?) but they would try to pick it up that afternoon. Saturday afternoon I missed a call from a driver saying they could not find the trailer, and when I saw the call 45 minutes later I immediately called back with no response. I called the main number in Denver and was rudely told that the driver — a «very good city driver» had been unable to locate the truck and had gone home. I understand why there might be some confusion as the street address of the apartment complex takes one to the back of the apartment instead of the front, but the previous pickup driver was able to recognize this and locate the trailer without a problem as it is quite large. The dispatcher on the phone was quite rude and suggested that I had given the wrong address; this is frustrating as I have no control over the address of my apartment complex and it is not hard to find the front entrance if one uses a bit of sense.
I am hoping the truck can be successfully picked up tomorrow as it is very inconvenient for my neighbors to have such a large truck blocking valuable parking space within the complex. In any case I definitely would not recommend using this company, especially not if one is moving to the Denver area.

Boxes were crushed, wet, and dirty.
The items within 3 of my boxes were water damaged.
I secured my couch to the wall, regardless, the rough transit destroyed it. There are holes/​tears in it.
My desk and coffee table have horrible dents.
I hired a mover to help me unpack the cube and he pointed out to me that there were holes in the wall of the cube, something I hadn’t even noticed.
In the end, I’ll spend more money on buying new furniture than the over 2k it cost me to move from CA to NY. I should have just sold it all at home when it was worth something.
For my move back, I’d rather pay double the price for a service that will keep my stuff safe.

California to Colorado move was a flawless execution & at a competitive price. Customer support was proactive & professional. Would definitely use U-​Pack again.

Compared a number of options on line for a cross country move, went with U-​pack because it was a simpler transaction (I am responsible for packing & unpacking, U-​pack hauls our stuff from A to B. Truck arrived a little early, interior was clean, driver was helpful and friendly. Took several days and 26′ of trailer space for a 3-​bd house plus my wife’s business and my tools — much harder and more tedious than expected. We have lived in the same house for 29 years, so it’s easy to collect a lot of stuff.
Ended up building a loft in the trailer where odd shaped items could be stored overhead and heavy boxes and tools could be packed on the trailer deck — hope it’s still standing when we get there.
Only downer so far was the barrier that both defines the cargo space we used and secures the load. It appears that U-​Pack does not have a good system for monitoring the condition of and repairing the bulkheads. in our case, the plywood making up the bulkhead was split /​frayed ragged and warped and one of the Rams was jammed, the other appeared to be missing the detent pin that prevents the ram from telescoping when you apply force, We replaced the missing detent with a small bolt and were able finally get both rams to extend and lock the barrier in place.
Next adventure was the ramp, it’s a very nice ramp with an anti slip surface, however while the U-​pack video shows the customer sliding the ramp into the truck when finished this is not possible when the remaining space in the trailer is less than the length of the ramp. We ended up putting the ramp in crosswise, which was a chore since the ramp is heavy and the width of the trailer at floor level was 2″ less than the length of the ramp. This required that the ramp be lifted (several hundred pounds of metal, 4′ off the ground) to clear the 1″ thick wood strips running the length of the trailer before it could be placed crosswise of the trailer. This is something U-​pack needs to take into account when a customer orders 25′ of trailer space like we did.
Anyway, our stuff is underway, let’s hope it arrives in one piece

I had recently used ABF /​UPack the second time to move from Boston to the Bay Area. These guys are first rate and great to work with. They have stood by their word and when there were problems (1 day delay), there were proactive and contacted me ahead of time. I will certainly be using them again.
I used the partial trailer option. The key thing to remember is that you are responsible for packing it well. I used a local mover to help do that on both ends.
(ps. first move was from Vancouver, BC to Boston. That went well as well.)

First of all, thank you Unilocal of helping me find upack! Moving has never been fun, especially moving across states (from Ohio to California). It’s a painful process to find a trustable mover within a tight budget. I spent quite some time to finally make the decision of working with upack after seeing all the positive reviews here. I am glad I made the right choice. From the beginning of calling the customer service to the end of delivery, everything was accurate, efficient and professional. They deliver your cube and give you about three days to load. No one needs to be there for cube picking up, the same as final empty picking up.
Only thing I hope they could do better is if they can pick up and deliver on weekends. They only work from Mon to Fri, so you have to plan everything ahead.
Overall, I am very satisfied with ABF upack and recommend it!

I could not be happier with this moving company (both locations)!! I moved from CA to WI (for family) in December. Instead of taking a chance on the weather and driving a U-​Haul with a car carrier cross country, I had them deliver my items and I was able to comfortably drive my own car to WI. The freight trailer got to WI 3 days after I arrived, I was still getting caught up and adjusted so they were wonderful working with me on the unload time I initially had to get my items out. Not only were they cheaper than U-​Haul and me doing the move myself but the customer service I received from the time of set up (in CA), throughout the move and all the way till the end (in WI) was extremely exceptional! I will definitely use them again.

I am so pleased that I chose this company to assist with my move– they made everything easy and worry free. And they had the best quotes. And the fee they quoted was exactly what we paid, including taxes, and no last minute surprises. It’s rare that you find any service which is this efficient and accommodating and polite. They earned five stars.

I would highly advise against using this company for moving if you value accuracy in the amount you are billed or if you value your items not being destroyed in the process of moving due to no fault of your own. It is no joke that my family was in tears when we opened the trailer and saw many of the items we owned destroyed.
I had multiple problems with Upack. First, I was charged for the wrong amount for my trailer usage. This cost was significantly more than was justified given the space I used (more than $ 500). Luckily, I caught this huge error, but I was out of money on my credit card until they reversed this extra charge. Customer service was helpful in resolving this and I was refunded this extra amount, however I should not have to spend part of my time moving attempting to resolve billing discrepancies with U-​pack.
Second, my items were significantly damaged during the move solely due to the negligence of U-​pack. Strangely, a large metal bar that I did not own ended up behind the bulkhead and on top of my furniture. According to one ABF employee, this was from another shipment in the same trailer. This metal bar resulted in a $ 500 desk being totally destroyed and many other items becoming severely damaged. Again, customer service was helpful and I received an insurance compensation that was only 0.10 per pound (I received less than $ 30 for a $ 500 desk). Of course, this was not sufficient to cover my items cost. It was very distressful to have items you just paid to shipped totally destroyed due to U-pack’s incompetence with no fault of my own.
Overall, I spent over $ 3000 for to move my items across the country and was left with pieces of furniture and hours on the phone trying to fix things with U-​pack.

From the first phone call, to the last, U-​Pack was absolutely amazing!
I was a little apprehensive booking U-​Pack at first as some of the full-​service companies were telling me that the price quoted was note going to be the final price, and that my stuff would be held hostage. After reading online reviews, I decided to go with U-​Pack!
I had initially rented space in one of their trailers. This later turned into my renting a ReloCube (due to my apartment complex being too small to get a truck in for multiple days per the manager of the complex), and using a U-​Haul to get my things to the terminal. Worth it!
Let me say, I am beyond satisfied with this company! I first booked my move online. I called and confirmed several times with the company, and called many more times with questions. With every call, the representatives were extremely kind and courteous with all my questions. They made sure I was at ease with my move. I really appreciated the excellent customer service!
I even called the Jackson, TN terminal a few times to confirm the ReloCube would be there. The employees at the terminal even offered to come make sure the truck would fit, and then when I changed to a ReloCube, invited me to come look at the cube to see the space.
Loading the Cube was easy! I had help as it is very tall (unlike Pods which are long), but we packed my entire studio apartment into the cube. There is a LOT of room in the cube! Again, the employees at the Jackson terminal were incredibly helpful and friendly! I forgot to take my padlocks out of their package and did not have a knife, so they helped me get them out!
After loading the Cube, it was put on a truck that night. It took 3 business days (Including Memorial day) to get ReloCube to Erie, PA. Again, the staff at that terminal were incredible! We scheduled the drop-​off, and they gave me a call thirty minutes before they were going to be there. The Cube fit easily into one parking spot. After it was unloaded, I called the terminal, and they had someone pick it up the next day (I unloaded it late in the day, otherwise I’m sure they would have removed it the same day).
I ended up hiring two people to unload my cube once I got to Erie. The cost of the U-​Haul to load the cube, the Cube itself, and then two people to unload it was less than getting a full-​service mover.
Of note, PACK YOUR CUBE PROPERLY! Things WILL shift. This is going to happen. I had my light items on top, so the things that shifted (clothes, random items) were not valuable. Oh, and NOTHING broke on the move.
I am extremely satisfied with ABF U-​Pack. I will be using them again, and will be recommending them to anyone who needs an affordable move.

ABF Rocks — If you don’t want to pay the ridiculous prices that full-​service moving companies charge and need a little more space than a POD, RelocCube or U-​Haul Box, then an ABF Trailer is for you!
My Story:
The moving brokers were on my nerves so I decided to go with ABF! There were too many hidden charges dealing with the moving brokers. However, the deal breaker for me was the fact that my items were not going to be covered for breakage by the insurance company because I packed the items myself. Only if something happened to the truck would they reimburse me for the items so I canceled! I was really in a crunch because it was two days before I wanted to schedule my move so I called ABF.
Customer Service:
Thus far, ABF rocks! The customer service is outstanding. My first point of contact was JON at the customer service center. I was stressed out explaining to him my situation and he did his best to accommodate my situation. He was able to get a trailer delivered but unfortunately, the city of San Ramon does not allow street parking of the trailer without a special permit. I did not have time to get a permit. Also, it was going to be the same deal at my destination. Jon at this point, suggested a «terminal to terminal» move. I arranged for 15 linear feet of space and he took my cc and I was happy.
At the terminal:
Oakland Terminal — When we arrived at the terminal, our trailer was waiting and clean. I made contact with Chris. Chris was helpful and friendly. Once we were done packing the trailer, he verified the amount of space used and I was on my way a happy girl.
Dallas Terminal — Alice was so nice and sweet. I told her I was going to arrive at 9 a.m. and my trailer was waiting. She handled everything and we had no problems at all.
The Trailer:
It’s big! Way bigger than a rental truck. The trailer is 28′ x 8.5×9′. It was clean and ready to go. I used way less space than I estimated. I would over estimate just in case.
Packing:
I hired someone to pack my trailer. Pack high, and pack tight. They give you a panel to install to keep your shipment separated. Buy two padlocks and you should be set. I would suggest heavy duty moving boxes. Also, tie downs are are a plus. Box everything and shrink wrap and cover your furniture.
Time:
They have estimated my move for 4 to 6 business days which was a far cry from the 14 to 21 business days stated by a number of moving companies. Also, I can track my truck online to see how it is progressing. To my surprise, my shipment went out on August 29 and arrived in Dallas on Sept. 2^nd!!! I wasn’t ready for my shipment, but I called and told the time I could pick it up.
