Little pricey, but the steak tacos are fresh and yummy; served with lime wedges. Quick service.

Avoid this place if you don’t want food poisoning! I came here Wednesday night, 1⁄27 had a pollo burrito(their portions are small) and woke up 1am with a fever and chills.

Food was fine. Had two mushroom tacos which were good enough, but man, can’t imagine paying over $ 3 for these tacos. My lunch companion had the posole and had to point out that there was literally no posole in her bowl. Diner next to us, upon hearing her bringing it up, also echoed the same complaint. Not planning to be back soon.

Not bad! Got two vegetarian tacos and my brother got some type of burrito. Not the best vegetarian taco I’ve had though. Still delicious! My brother said the same thing about his burrito. You could probably get something so much better at a local taqueria. But the place has a great atmosphere! Very unique! It certainly draws a crowd. Willing to come back and try more things!

My 10 year old son says this is the best Mexican food in town! A great variety of burritos and tacos… the selection and variety of options is amazing. Great for lunch or dinner on the go. You will be happy with spending time at Xolo!

Chili Relleno burrito is the best I’ve had. Guacamole and chips and Tortilla Soup also fab.

3.5 stars. Average Mexican food. Slightly above average because there aren’t THAT many other quick casual bites right around this area.

I ate here for lunch with my friend and it’s quite the colorful scene. Décor is full of photos, posters, and painted walls. The menu is posted behind the register and very reasonably priced. Tacos are $ 3.25 and burritos are little less than $ 10. I went with the surf and turf burrito because why not? Steak and shrimp under $ 10…yes please. Rice. Onions. Steak. Shrimp. Jalapeño slices. My friend had a taco and refried black beans. The beans were decent. It was quite a lot of beans but for $ 3, I would hope so. I didn’t try her shredded beef taco so I can’t comment on it. The surf and turf was good. It wasn’t exactly evenly spaced with food, it was almost like my Chipotle burrito with the rice at the bottom. There was flavor and I was satisfied. More grease than I would like but that’s the breaks. The girl working the register was sweet and the food was cooked quickly. It was fresh, hot, and served with a smile. Not bad but not the best Mexican food. I’ll be keeping my options open still.

Just happened to come across this place as I was waiting in line @ The Fox Theatre. Tacos were really good! I had the Vampiro, which is al pastor and the camarones(shrimp). Both spicy in their own way but all very good. Ordered the Melon agua fresca and it so so fresh and not too sweet which is great! Usually taquerias put too much sugar in them, but this one hit the spot! The girl that took our order was super friendly and the food came out quick. All a very good experience. Would definitely come back and try other items on the menu next time I am in the area.

I kind of have a special place in my tummy for Xolo breakfast burritos, after coworker mentioned them to me – even though the place can be considered«hipster-y» and not exactly«cheap.» But seriously, their breakfast burritos are pretty amazing… the best in the downtown/uptown area, not counting the taqueria next to Ike’s sandwiches. You get for what you pay for, with a perfect blend of gooey cheese, soft and melty eggs, sausage, and a kick of spicy jalapeños. A woman who works here has said the breakfast burrito is also her favorite! I’ve also had other burritos, including their surf and turf, which is probably my second favorite burrito here. It can sometimes be a bit too buttery and heavy for me though, so be prepared for that. Their tacos are tiny and dainty, but great for a lighter lunch option. They have shrimp tacos too! I’d avoid the horchata though, which is surprisingly powdery… really bad texture that has you visibly struggling with your tongue.

Ordered the Birria — two things: it was room temperature AND there was a LONGSTRANDOFHAIR in my soup; DISGUSTING. The server was the only one that seemed genuinely apologetic. The manager came by for a half ass apology and dropped cash off to refund my soup and walked off. Seems like this place is more concerned to please the gentrifiers.

After getting a couple drinks at Make Westing, our group was starving so we headed over to Xolo. There was a line to the door but it went quick. I decided on a pollo burrito. I was dying of hunger, so once we got our food I chowed down. Even slightly buzzed I found it to be just okay. Nothing spectacular. Also tried the chips and salsa as well as the guacamole. Again, just average. Portions are decent. Prices are a little pricey for lackluster Mexican food, but considering the area it’s average.

This place is amazing. I crave this place all the time, no other place compares or competes. I’ve honestly have not had a better taco in my life! The meat is always tender, flavorful and perfectly stuffed into the tortilla. I always get beef and chicken tacos! My partner and I come here so often they know our faces! They are pricey yes but it is absolutely worth it 100%! I come here all the way from Berkeley worth the drive! Also I never wait more than 5 minutes! They’re quick delicious and it’s an addiction!!! Also the BROWNIES omg! They’re so goey, chocolaty and delicious!

The quality of the food was relatively high, but the price was absolutely too high. They charge for chips($ 2.25). Never again. Oh, and the too-cool-for-school girl at the counter was a bit harsh. Xero tip, Xero return.

How did I not find this earlier! My roommate raved about this place, so I finally gave it a try! Chicken Quesadilla’s are my thing, and while they aren’t on the official menu, they’ll make em! It’s just chicken and cheese, but that’s all I need! You can probably ask for more if you please. The outdoor seating is quaint, but it has a cool vibe. Overall, fast and relatively inexpensive! –1 Star for food appearance. My quesadilla was clearly thrown onto the plate. It was still delicious though.

We checked this place out to grab a quick bite before a show at the Fox theater. The food is cheap(considering it’s by the Fox theater) and delicious. The restaurant is spacious, cool, and hip. I had 2 Al Pastor tacos – they came out taco truck-style, which I prefer. They were quite greasy and delightful. The bf got a surf and turf burrito which was also delicious, a good size, and relatively cheap for a surf n turf(about $ 9). Although I wouldn’t go all the way here for Mexican food, I’ll definitely come back next time I go to the Fox.

There is nothing like being Oaklandish on a beautiful day. I actually enjoy admiring buildings from the seventies, vacant boarded businesses that couldn’t hack protesters and crime. Stickers, graffiti and posters representing injustices adorn walls, stop signs, and lamp posts. Beautiful people casually walk their best friend throughout this concrete jungle, lofts occupied by hipsters, construction underway showing that a change is eminent. Amidst the constant progression of UPTOWN, you will find my favorite turquoise taqueria named XOLO, the pronunciation is always up for debate. I appreciate XOLO’s friendly, knowledgeable staff. There are ONLY three items I order, why? Because I am obsessed with all three. Item 1) Tacos Camarones: Battered and fried shrimp, cabbage, topped with a fresh tangy dressing. Item 2) which I have named, THEXOLYGUACAMOLE. In my Oprah voice, PERFECTIOOONNN!!! Beautiful thick, healthy green, rich. The red onions, tomatoes just a delicious hearty party in your mouth. Item 3) A cold Tecate with lime because I have to calm down from the XOLY guacamole. Unfortunately, I wasn’t reunited with my beloved XOLY guacamole because, they were out… give me a minute… and i’m back. I tried the vegetarian refried bean dip with cheese and rancheros sauce with chips. It was served hot which I enjoyed. It was good, flavorful. It will fill you nicely. When you are Uptown funking it, make XOLO a high priority. Your appetite will thank you.

Horchata: not good. Expensive and small, powdery at the bottom like it just doesn’t incorporate very well, so you’re either drinking powder or milky water. Beef, camarones, and pollo tacos are all excellent. Very fresh and great combo of flavor so. Beef has a fried taco, harder to eat, heavier and oily in the meat but there pico and some lime help cut into it. Chips and guac — chips aren’t very good. Not as crunchy or crispy as elsewhere(that give it to you for freeeee). Guac is fine. Service is quick though, gotta appreciate that when you hungry!

Dinner time on a Monday night after a drink across the street. Two tacos: one beef and one hondos. Both were well stuffed and did not skimp on the meat in the beef. I also like that the cheese was on top of the meat as opposed to on top of the pico in the taco, because you want to taste that melty cheese on the meat! The mushrooms in the hondos were also in a tasty sauce and the avocado gave it a nice touch. House made thick tortilla chips are my FAVORITE and although you have to pay separate for chips and small cups of salsa, I did enjoy them just the same. It wasn’t busy at all at about 6:30 but I’m sure if it were a Friday or during lunch time it is a much more bustling place. Didn’t have to wait long for the food and will have to try carnitas next time!

While the prices seem a bit higher than other comparable places, the food doesn’t seem to rise the occasion. It’s all quite bland, as other reviewers have noted. This is a large, airy space, however, with lots of room to spread out in the lower level as well as the upstairs loft, and it’s all located in a prime spot across the street from the Fox Theatre. If you’re in the area and need a late bite, then grabbing a few tacos here is not a bad option.
