This is a little bit sub-par for cuisine that is challenging to mess up. The salsa varies highly. Sometimes it tastes like tomato sauce and other times it has a nice kick of spice. The food leaves a little bit to be desired each time I go. The prices are average and the service is good. I suggest getting shredded cheese to put in your salsa before you dip your chips.

Javier’s has been a favorite in my family for years. This is my favorite location because of the ambience. I enjoy the el natural burrito. The food is great but we usually decide to visit when we are looking for great margaritas. They are the perfect flavor and consistency.

Horrible service. Had to practically jump out of my seat for extra napkins and a refill. The food tasted like black pepper, minimal servings at best. Bland rice, food processed salsa with barely any chiles to make it decent. Silverware is cheap and flat. Ever tried eating off a flat fork? This is not my first visit here by the way. Save your money and eat elsewhere. You think with all these negative reviews, the restaurant would at least attempt to give a fuck and change things. I find it sad that they are expanding to yet another town. Why oh why subject more people to your horrible food?! One more thing… Adding black pepper for heat is not what you do when cooking Mexican food!!!

My favorite Mexican restaurant! Their food is always amazing, no matter what you get. And to top it off, their customer service is awesome!

The waitress was excellent but the food is mediocre at best. The atmosphere was so/so nothing that really stood out. It was clean in appearance. Be careful as the sodas are $ 3.00 a pop. However. the guacamole was ok and if you want to get wasted before noon there you go. You know you’ve thought about it and/or done it so . $ 6.00 lime martini with decent tequila. If I did it again I’d get an appetizer and do a lime martini on the rocks — light on the rocks. more drink less ice. This was my first martini ever. They do use the mix I noticed. which is extremely sugary. They have a large section for alcoholic, virgin drinks and your basic shots of course. I didn’t come in for alcohol but it was one of those seize the moment things. Apparently if you have TWO forms of WSU student ID’s you get a discount. Expect your ticket to be $$, even if eating alone and not getting much.(Ouch!) The company of awesome waitstaff was great and she didn’t give that face if you’re drinking before noon then celebration that I was a returning student ensued at random. so I’m going to give it 5 stars in that area. I’d try it again. but the food and drinks need improvement.

We used to come for Menudo on Fridays… until they stopped serving it. And it was always a fight to get them to take out the corn. Now we go to Rancho Market where the Menudo is better anyway. But Javier was really nice…

Mexican, or was it tex mex — or was it just a rip off? There were less than two pieces of chicken in my enchiladas. I prefer the fast food Rosaritos — this place tasted like fast food.

Terrible food. Skip this place and hit pretty much any other Mexican food place. Yes, that includes Taco Bell.

Worse food ever! First time here and I ordered take out. Chicken burrito, simple enough right? No. Took the first bite and tasted nothing but black pepper so I opened up the burrito to check if it was just that one bite. It wasn’t. Literally covered in pepper! The rice tastes like all it has in it is chicken broth, only good thing was the beans and they were only mediocre. So disappointed! Being from LA really spoils a person on what great mexican food really is and this is definitely not it. I will never eat here again.

All negative comments unfortunately came true. Wait staff seemed to be doing the dance«deer in headlight shuffle» which in not as cool as the macarena. so lost. If you want extra salsa just dump it off the menu from the previous cutomer that seemed to work. But if your looking for a memorable experience have a 12 pack and go get hooker than take them for dinner. That might make this better. I can’t really critique the food since most every Unilocaler Knows what authentic food tastes like or was like on their mission. Which gives them the vast knowledge of South American fair… it was OK for me.

Food was ok. I asked for 2 enchiladas, one cheese and one beef and I got 2 beef. Beef tasted good but sauce is bland and tortillas are kinda weird tasting. Service was ok as well, waitress hardly came to check up on us and it took forever for us to get our check.

Betos is better, and there’s no shame in saying that. I’ve had a few things from here, and it’s all just so-so. Nothing spectacular. It’s boring food, and it’s not super-cheap. I’ve had the fish taco, the carne asada taco, one of each of the different kinds of enchiladas, and rice and beans. It’s all so boring, it’s as if it’s all from a can. The guacamole and salsa are pretty good, but that’s not a meal. There are lots of restaurants similar to this, where the food isn’t great, but some of the locals keep going because it is sentimental. If you like Javier’s, it’s definitely for a reason other than the food.

The food was horrible. How is this place even open? My plate was colder than my drink. Will never return to this place. It sure is not Authentic Mexican. Avoid this place.

Food gets one star. I’m adding a second star for the friendly service. Javier is such a nice man! Ogden is no hub for gourmet cuisine. Folks in Ogden just don’t want to pay for it, but making delicious, authentic Mexican food doesn’t have to be expensive. What’s lacking here is passion. The food is prepared carelessly. With better chefs, Javier’s could be a lucrative destination awesome Mexican food in Ogden.

MOLE = YUMMY My wife and I decided to drop by this restaurant during our getaway. we were from out of town. So we were unfamiliar with the area. The place was busy, but not too busy, so we stopped in. We were greeted quickly, and seated right away, large place! we were then given the usual chips and salsa. The salsa was mild, but my wife loved it. I asked for something hotter, and the waitress brought me some green Verde sauce, and a sauce she called«happy». I tried both, and they were both great! I enjoyed mixing them, lol. I am a huge fan of mole, so when I saw that on the menu I was thrilled. My wife had a Pepe’s Combo. Our waitress was sweet and kind, and the food was served in quick fashion. Both plates were quite huge, in my opinion, and also quite yummy! I enjoyed my mole burrito, just wished it was more spicy, but I usually do. My wife loved hers, and ate all of it. All in all, since we dont live around the Ogden area, but visit, we will go there again when visiting, and would recommend it. If you like it more spicy, ask for the hotter sauce!

I met my uncle Jim and my cousin Luke, his wife, preschool aged and six month old daughter here for dinner in January the night before the big snow in Layton(Luke lives in Ogden, Jim in Huntsville) and they said this was a decent local chain. I was sure it had to be decent given the fact that Ogden has the largest hispanic population in all of Utah, however, I was very disappointed with the food and service. Turns out there is another location in Layton too. Thanks to the GPS system in the Unilocal app via IPhone, I was able to find my way here relatively easy as my rental car(brand new) was not equipped with any kind of navigational system. It was balls cold out, but the snow hadn’t started yet and I made it safely in the beast of a car I as in. The family was already there when I arrived and the baby was napping, the preschooler was eating a cheese quesadilla with french fries and the rest of the family was waiting for me. I quickly perused the menu and I ordered my typical 2 crispy tacos with rice and beans. All were pretty meh, as was the watered down salsa. I am not much of a spicy girl but this had no flavor whatsoever. The same went for the tacos, the rice and the beans. The guacamole I am sure was laced with mayo(but I talked myself into the fact it was sour cream), but the portions are large, the prices low and this alone is why I think it is a popular place. The waitress was nice but drinks went unfilled for long periods of time and luckily there was a fountain inside to keep the 3 year old occupied-give her a penny to make a wish and after everyone’s pockets or wallets were void of all change, we were done. In all honesty the company was 5 stars. Seeing my cousin Luke for the first time in 25+ years was 10 stars as was meeting his wife and children, and if this is where they would want to meet again, I would go but not for the food.

NEVEREATINGHEREAGAIN. Service took an hour before we had food. Ordered two beers and were never asked about a refill. Never got waters we were promised. Food arrived and was only half of what the menu said was supposed to come with it. Asked our waiter for silverware since there wasn’t any there. WENEVERSAWHIMATOURTABLEAGAIN. Had to flag down another waiter to get silverware after waiting 10 minutes for our waiter to bring some, and then ultimately had to go to the front in order to get our check. All the tables around us were complaining as well, and all had to stand up to get different waiters as well. We never heard an apology. When we asked for our check, the waitress said, «here» and tossed it at me. Service is horrible, and the food is crap. I have no idea how this place stays in business, let alone operates multiple locations. Don’t waste your time here.

I’ve heard about this restaurant for years from a family member who lives in the Ogden area. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed. When you have a reservation for 23 people you expect there to be adequate service to have a pleasant meal. Well, that didn’t happen. Where do I start? We were seating immediately but our servers didn’t take our drink orders or give us salsa/chips for at least 15 minutes. When we finally did order, I asked the waitress what their specialty was or what they were known for, she didn’t have an answer. Her answer was literally, «We don’t really have a specialty and we’re not really known for anything.» Wrong answer! So, I ordered the Carne Asada tacos, and they were good. While the salsa and chips were empty after 5 minutes and never refilled, the service did improve throughout the meal. The food was good enough, nothing great, but good. Overall, if the costumer service had been great, the impression of this restaurant might have been much better. But, I left disappointed.

Javier’s is a really cool place and a good one to get some Mexican food. My brother really likes Javier’s and we went here for dinner after his football game. They were very accommodating with our large group. Our waitress did a great job remembering our orders. I ordered a combo plate that came with a taco, enchilada and a tamale. It was a lot of food and eating the chips they provided while we waited didn’t help. Let’s just say I wish I had worn sweat pants to dinner. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meal and it was a very good time for all!
