Kahuna Creations

I grew up with 5 brothers and I was always the girl that wanted to be good at skateboarding (now longboarding) but I always struggled with my balance and turning left/​right on the boards. When I went home last summer and all my brothers were longboarding on our trip in Tahoe, I decided I’d give it another shot.
Apparently, Kahuna Creations invented the land paddle called the Kahuna Stick. I was so amazed trying it out, I could actually balance on a board for the first time! Not only that, I could go fast and not worry about my foot placement. Their boards are also easier to turn on or what my brothers call «carve».
My husband and I now own three of their boards and we both have a land paddle. I didn’t think it would actually be a workout but it definitely works your arms! Luckily, we have the Bombora board, so when I get tired I just sit on the front while my husband paddles on the board. We usually go to Liberty Park and Provo Canyon to board when we want to get out.
I highly recommend their boards whether you are new to longboarding like me or whether you are like my brothers who have been doing it for years!

this is my first longboard. there are a TON of boards, wheels, trucks and companies to choose from. so why did i choose Kahuna Creations? I was already set on buying the Kahuna Big Stick but was looking at several other boards by different companies. One of them makes the snowboard I ride and love, so naturally, I gravitated toward «them». I was literally stumped over what board to buy when a friend i had shown the Big Stick to asked if KC made boards as well. by that point i had already emailed 3 companies when i returned to KC to check out their boards. i was amazed at how unique the boards looked and also how cheap they were compared to the others i was considering.
in all i contacted 4 companies over about two weeks and Kahuna Creations was the only one to return my email (the next day btw). The day after I placed the order, Steve (who i think is the owner) contacted me via email to let me know that the upgraded wheels were out of stock but if i wanted they would ship the complete board that day and ship the wheels separately for no charge at a later date. i chose to wait but obviously the point here is great customer service.
i also ordered the adjustable big stick and changed my mind last minute to the bamboo stick. unfortunately, it was the same day the adjustable stick and board shipped. now this was my fault entirely but Steve was more then happy to ship me the bamboo and a return label for the adjustable — it shipped the very next day.
my board arrived 2 days later (only a week from my original order and with the better wheels).
the Pohaku Surf Rider 48″ looks and rides GREAT! i’m glad i got the upgraded wheels too — so smooth. i let my dogs pull me around the block today for my first ride (the stick will be here tuesday) and it was a BLAST. not having to push allows for more time to carve and on this board it really feels great.
i am happy with my purchase and the price i paid for a complete, great looking/​riding longboard + kahuna big stick. i am also confident that should a problem arise that this company will stand behind their product and do as much as possible to satisfy their customers.
UPDATE: i still love this board and the stick is fantastic. careful not to put your elbow higher then your shoulder as this motion can cause damage to the rotator cuff muscles. i’ve been cruising about 3 –4 miles per trip a few times a week and it’s awesome!

a few months ago, an employee contacted me via Unilocal about my review and apologized for the bad experience. he assured me that moving forward they will do better in quality assurance. he gave me his email, his cell to contact him, new but different bearings and a nice discount on anything i wanted from them.
it was a sincere, very welcomed message from him even though i only accepted the new bearings (there’s nothing i need from their site).
now, this doesn’t change my experience with them but it does create a new one which deserves this update and another star.
