Hartwell House Inn is a lovely, whimsical bed & breakfast. This is the place to stay if you like antiquing and good service. We were on our honeymoon when we stayed here in the Polly Reed suite. It was a lush and lovely setting for us. Breakfast was simple but delicious and well done. My husband had eggs Benedict and i had eggs over easy with English muffins and a gluten free blue berry muffin. The service was worm and welcoming and a midnight snake is always ready and waiting for you downstairs in the kitchen. My husband was particularly impressed with the service of late night coffee that wasn’t burned or stall.

Too bad I can’t agree with the other reviewer on this place. This is because we never got to stay here. Hartwell House overbooked the weekend we scheduled our Ogunquit get-away; this is even after we had called the night before to confirm our reservation. They called us 1 hour before we were about to drive up. Luckily we’re in the Boston area… pity the poor travelers who were arriving to Ogunquit from far away who didn’t find out they had no room until they arrived. They said they overbooked 4 rooms. The place isn’t that big so I find it very difficult to understand how they can get their reservations all screwed up. While they did find us a room in another Inn — which was in a big, stinky DUMP by the way — and we made the most of our misfortune; the entire booking experience did leave us little sour. We will never plan to stay at Hartwell House knowing that if you make a reservation and even confirm that reservation and pay 50% of your stay; you might end up like baby Jesus with no room at the inn.
