So lucky to live so close to this amazing place! We’ve been coming here for years. This is always my husbands birthday pick and we’ve never had a bad experience yet!

Went there for the first for my birthday. It was so great. My two younger kids loved the spaghetti. My oldest for the chicken fried steak and brought part of it home cause it was so big. I of course got the Presidential T bone. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had. The service was fast and our waitress was very friendly.

The lamb fries are very good. The house salad is small, but their house dressing is the best. Steaks are done right, I’ve had them all. Staff is always accommodating. The cocoanut cream pie is really good. Great breakfast here as well, and the chicken fried steak is good too.

I will always remember this place as my introduction to that venerated foodstuff, gris eminence of Bluegrass cuisine, the lamb fries. If you don’t know what they are, look them up, and if you’re wondering, they are very yummy. Everything is as it should be with this local institution – side salads heavy on dressing, lots of different bits of things deep fried, and more importantly, huge hunks of meat cooked right(this place cranks out medium rare’s with enviable precision). Go for a place that knows itself fully and performs that identity with grace and unfailing excellence.

The national car rental guy said this was the best place in Oklahoma. Obviously an authority figure on culture, I decided to go. As someone who has spent the past 8 years traveling on the work dime and living in very urban areas, driving up to a restaurant that only has pickup trucks in the parking lot and an aura reminiscent of a 1970’s Denny’s gave pause that the national car rental guy may have led me astray. While I seriously contemplated turning around and going to the more familiar Chili’s across the street from my hotel to eat my daily caloric intake in salad– I stayed and am very glad my tendency toward the pretentious did not(a very very rare occurrence) dictate. While the suggested«house salad» was no more than pre-packaged lettuce mix, ranch dressing, and paprika I have to say that this may have honestly been one of the best steaks I’ve ever had in my life. While certainly not an authority I’ve been to some pretty excellent places, this one might just be on top. Perfectly marbled, and wrapped in bacon and cooked perfectly medium rare. Definite stop if you’re visiting Oklahoma.

Cattlemans is a staple for Oklahoma City. If you want good service with an even better steak then stop by cattlemans and they will make you happy. We always start out with an order or two of the lamb fries. Don’t be turned off by what it is, just eat them and you will not regret it. The salad with the house dressing us the next delicacy they will bring you. Lastly, the won’t let you eat your steak unless they see you cut into it and they see that it is cooked to how you ordered it. When a place has been around as long as they have, you know they must be doing things right!

Best steak we’ve ever had hands down, we’ve had steak from alot of different places and this blows them all out of the water. Had the lamb fries as well. Very enjoyable! Was told our wait would be 15⁄20 minutes and we didn’t even wait that long to be seated. We went upstairs, got our drinks at the bar, sat down and was buzzed to be seated shortly after that. Finished the dinner with the coconut crème pie!!! Perfection!!! We will be back for sure!!!

If your in OKC you have to try this place out. The food is excellent. But what i like just as much is the look and feel of this place. It has stood the test of time for many decades and you can feel the years in here, The good ones and the bad.

Old school steak house with a great steak! You would think this would be some fancy steak place when you hear about the legendary steaks. Average décor with an above average steaks and food. If you are a steak person then when in Oklahoma city, head to the cattlemen’s –Brent

Yay! I’m a fan. Cattlemens is a staple item when visiting OKC. I was in the area for a work project so any time a new member of our team would fly in, somebody had to take them. You don’t just go, somebody that has been there before«shows you» Cattlemens… or that’s what we were told. This is not a posh steakhouse. It is an old building with old country décor and carpet that needs to be replaced. It is what it is. Rolls + butter to start = Yay! If you order a salad, you get a bread plate full of large croutons. I love these croutons. I would butter and eat the croutons. Tablemates would laugh about it, but they’d end up copying me and muttering«yes.» One time I had a steak soup of some sort. That was surprisingly good. I ate the whole bowl even though I knew steak was on its way(this knowledge would typically deter me from eating an entire pre-meal item). I’ve mostly had the prime rib. That’s my thing. It’s really good and comes out at the proper cooking temperature(rare is actually rare… yum!). My colleagues have all really enjoyed their steaks every time we came here. Check out the Blue Prime steak of the evening — it varies and may be right up your alley. The desserts are iffy. One evening I said no to dessert, then my table and waiter pushed me so I went with a meringue pie. That ruined my dinner. I had beautiful prime rib taste in my mouth, then I took a bite of that funky meringue. Never again. If you want a dessert, go with the cobblers; The meringues are weird. They need to switch bakeries on those things.

Steak was good but the sides were meh. So if I’m in a carnivorous kind of mood, then ya I’d come back knowing that the side bread and other sides are just so so. The Pecan pie was pretty good so that was the other saving grace. For the hype this place received, I thought this place would be Amaaaaazing! Buuuuut, I thought it was average for the price I was paying. Maybe I’ll give it a second chance?

I came here directly from the airport, as soon as I landed in OKC. I was in town from San Franicisco for a few days in November so I could check Oklahoma off my list; getting to all 50 states is a bucket list of mine and Oklahoma was my 40th. I’d seen Cattlemen’s on a few«best steakhouses in America» lists so I was eager to give it a try. I started with the lamb fries — yes, deep fried lamb testicles — because. well, «when in Rome» I guess. They were a little odd(the texture, but not the taste, of liver), but seriously, what food isn’t delicious when deep fried and dipped in cocktail sauce? I ordered the priciest cut of steak, some premium something something, I think it was $ 36, which was way cheaper than what I’d pay in San Francisco, so it seemed like a bargain. It was delicious, juicy. Definitely a fine piece of meat. The salad was sorta terrible but I didn’t go there for the salad. The coconut crème pie is one of the best slices of pie I’ve ever had in my life. I’m not exaggerating. Huge and just a perfect slab of goodness. The ambience leaves a little to be desired, the look(furniture) is very dated and not necessarily in a good way but honestly I came here for steak and pie and testicles so I got what I wanted. Service was friendly and I was sitting next to some friendly customers who chatted me up about San Francisco and things to do in OKC so I can’t complain about the hospitality. 5 stars. Would go again, no hesitation.

Solid Steakhouse staples! Steaks were grilled exactly to medium rare which was great and the sides were cooked well too. The dessert was very generous and I would fight recommend that their blackberry cobbler! The one complaint is that my steak wasn’t quite as got as I would have liked when I dug in. Other random facts, Bush 1 ate there, 2 everything is wood paneled and the ambiance is like you’ve stepped into a Quinton Tarantino movie set? 3. The plates look like my college servery’s. But the food is good so who cares.

Lordy! I have eaten steaks through out this country and in countries beyond. Cattleman has the best t-bone, I’ve ever had. Period. It’s amazing beyond words. I am a traveler and a foodie. I’ve been a foodie since conception. I am also an avid follower of Patricia Schultz’s book, «1000 places to see before you die». Cattleman’s is in the book on page 692. I love going to places that have stood the test of time, trends and changing generations. Places with history and were celebs dine(I’m an LA native, it’s our thing). There’s a reason why this place has been around for 100+ years, we don’t have«old» in this country, so a century old dining establishment is impressive. The interior is cowboy western that is classic. It doesn’t have that over the top, trying to hard feel. The service is friendly and attentive. So let’s get to the food. I always prefer T-bone if I can get it. The meat is perfectly aged and melts in your mouth, grilled to perfection. When you start with great ingredients, it can only go up from there. We ordered the mushrooms but we made the mistake of ordering one for each of us, three orders. One would of sufficed. If you want to dine where John Wayne and Gene Autry, America’s favorite cowboys ate. It’s right here. This is the real deal people.

Whenever I travel, I consult Guy Fieri’s «Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives» episodes for restaurant recommendations. It stands to reason you could get a good steak dinner in Oklahoma City, but at Cattlemen’s you get much more: an amazing steak, grilled to your perfect degree of doneness, together with the authenticity of a vintage steakhouse. I had the Ribeye, my two younger colleagues each conquered a Presidential Choice 22 oz. T-Bone. As designated driver, I couldn’t risk a meat coma on the drive back to Norman! Our server, Anna, was an incredibly friendly, attentive server and helped us have a great time along with our great meal.

Awesome experience here. Tom was a gracious host/server and the food was good(the protein anyway). The T-bone was cooked perfectly(medium rare) so delectable/juicy/fresh. Baked Potato was basic. The mushrooms are a must get. The garlic oil sauce is flavorful and not too saturated. The side veggies are bland and I’d pass on this next time. The salad is basic… lettuce and 1 tomatoe. Garlic ranch dressing is OK. A little too thick for my liking. Salmon tasted great/not fishy. It’s Norwegian aka farm raised :-/I’m not sure what the marinade was or how it was grilled but the flavor was good and it was light and delicious! I’d recommend the filet over the salmon. :)

A few months ago I drove 1000 miles round trip to the Big Texan in Amarillo, Texas. I can tell you without hesitation that was a dumb idea. I sat in a comfy booth while dining at Cattlemen’s Steak House and texted my friend who went to BT with me… we should have drove further. A far better steak was found(forgive me Texas) in Oklahoma City. Little Rooster and I found ourselves arriving just after noon. A short wait and we were chomping on onion rings as our starter. I instantly gave my son a secret tidbit to see if he would tell my wife later… said rings contain beer. Held that inside for about an hour folks before he told mom over the phone. For $ 6, a huge basket of fried goodness. Having seen Cattlemen’s on the Food Network, I didn’t know what to expect when the salad arrived with the proprietary dressing. Wife even called it salad gravy after I posted pics on the facebook. You know, quite similar to a lemon sour cream sauce we have here in Texas at a local breakfast eatery. Oh, and the rolls were almost the size of my kids head! My filet ordered rare spent less time on the grill than mist on hot asphalt. Add in some grilled shrimp and I couldn’t finish it all. My kids food was totally sub par. Prolly the worst food service chicken strips you could order. Also, with roughly 200 patrons in the dining area. one toilet in the men’s bathroom. Urinals are set for adult height so I had to hold my kid in the air while he did his business. Wait pagers could honestly be reused for the restrooms. I was all over 4 or 5 stars, but had to end up at a three thanks to the John problems and poor selections for kids.

This place is okay… The service was wonderful but the food not so much. The restaurant was very dirty, the decorations by our table were full of dust and dirt. It was gross, I was very disgusted — one of the reasons for the 2 stars. The hostess told us it would be a 35 minute wait, and it was only 10(great surprise). Our waitress, Celia, was very sweet. She answered all of her questions clearly(very knowledgeable) — the only reason I didn’t give this place 1 star. It’s a very small menu, but has all the steak necessities. Each meal comes with a house salad(lettuce from a bag, not impressed), dinner roles, and either a baked potato, fried okra, French fries, or mac and cheese! The lamb fries were terrible… There’s barely any lamb. It’s pretty much fried soft batter. I’m a big lamb fan, I was extremely disappointment. That’s one of the reasons why this place 2 stars from me instead of 5. For dinner, I got the lady’s filet(6oz) with no bacon(because apparently all their steaks are wrapped in bacon. The steak tasted like bacon, I couldn’t eat it — another reason for the 2 stars. The Mac and cheese, and baked potato were good. For dessert we had the pecan pie with ice cream, it was very delicious. I will never come back to this place though, I’d rather spend my money on steak else were(like the wonder Ranch Steakhouse).

[600th Review] This is a 4.5 star review, but I can’t go to 5. Celebrating my parents’ anniversary, they decided to eat at Cattlemen’s, a place I hadn’t been to in over a decade. We arrived between 5:30 and 6:00 on a Monday. We walked right in, it was only about a third full. There is a more casual seating area to your right when you walk in, then there are a couple of nicer dining rooms to the left. The interior is certainly dated, and you will never forget you are in the Stockyards. But, the place is comfortable and clean, so I was fine with the cowboy kitsch. We were approached immediately by our server, and throughout our meal he was never far. Fantastic service, waters were never close to empty. We all went with salads and the famous Cattlemen’s house dressing to start. The salad was very basic; a cherry tomato and iceberg. It’s served with a lot of the dressing, and large croutons on the side. The croutons are old dinner rolls sliced and toasted until crisp. I didn’t detect any seasoning, if they had some it would have been great. The dressing was very good. I didn’t go as crazy for it as my family did. It’s creamy, has a hint of garlic and cheese. It’s certainly better than whatever bottled dressing you buy at the store. To eat, I went with their«blue ribbon» ribeye, which means prime. It was 14 ounces for $ 37, including the salad, baked potato, and the famous dinner rolls. The rolls are DENSE. They come out hot and have a great flavor. I don’t know how you can eat more than one, but they are good. The ribeye was solid, I asked for the jus on the side because I wanted to check the crust on the steak. Not much of one, but it was cooked properly, and wasn’t burned in any spots. It was a good quality steak. The jus is good, but I think it overpowers the steak. You taste more jus than steak, so I was glad I got it on the side. The baked potato was standard with the typical toppings. My father had the chicken fried steak and I tried a bite and it was fantastic. Pan fried instead of deep fried, which is very rare nowadays. It was crispy, seasoned very well, and sitting atop cream gravy that was actually peppery. The steak wasn’t over greasy, it was incredibly tender, and the breading adhered well to the meat. On return trips, it will be hard not to get this, even if they have prime ribeyes available. Excellent chicken fry. By the time we left, the place was packed. I didn’t see an empty table on our way out. This place has certainly been around, but it is still a great place to get dinner. You could do better for steakhouses in OKC(Mickey Mantle’s, The Ranch), but you can also do a whole lot worse. Cattlemen’s isn’t just the place on TV or the place George Bush ate. It’s a legit joint with a meal that will probably surprise you.

Würde auch noch einen Stern mehr geben, ganz im Sinne der folgenden Bücher: «1,000 Places to See Before You Die» und«500 Things to Eat Before It’s Too Late». Würde wieder die 150 Meilen Umweg in Kauf nehmen, um dort ein Steak zu essen!
