Good selection, good location, and a reasonable selection. Best thing about this store is the pricing. Good hunting.

We stopped by here on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago to bring in an enormous rubbermaid tub full of books and DVDs to sell. I warned my Husband that we may be there a while so that they could go through the books and give us a price on them. While they priced, we browsed. They had a really great Kids’ section, including a large movie selection. The store was clean and uncluttered, and the staff were all friendly. Remarkably, they had our pricing done in about 30 minutes — which I really think is amazing because the tub was huge. I have sold books at the Half Price on 63rd and May before and it took forever — of course they may have been having a busier day that day. So, we got to browse books for a bit, de-clutter our house, and get a little pocket cash from nice people in a well organized store. Not a terrible Sunday afternoon.

I have never met a HPB bookstore I didn’t like. Its very hard to go in one & not loose all sense of time & yourself among the many fascinating books that beckon to you to stop & read a few pages. There is nothing more powerful than the written word & all it translates, transcending all. Books can do & mean many things, they can also be very personal & very intimate especially to the author. Not everyone can write but everyone should read, and that is what’s great about this store. HPB’s slogan is to «promote literacy» & be kind to the environment. Teachers are offered a year-round 10% discount on purchases &ALL Half Price bookstore’s hold book drives every year to collect new/gently used children’s books that goes to build«Half Pint Libraries» at children’s hospitals & special-needs clinics in their areas. HPB provides a valuable service that provides second hand books to the public that may not be able to afford books at retail cost. No matter where you buy your books you can sell them to HPB as long as they are in gently used condition. It’s NOT about the money. The biggest reward in selling your books is giving someone else & someone else’s child the opportunity to experience that same book for much less or free through HPB’s charitable donations. HPB has a incredible inventory of all kinds of books & children’s books, something for everyone. I 100% support their program. I love selling to them & buying their books. I love reading books, I love collecting books, I love giving books & I never miss a opportunity to give or read to my nieces & nephews a great children’s book. Just to see their little beady eyes & imaginations wide & wild with wonder is priceless. I Love that HPB donates millions of all those books we sell back & all its overstock inventory to non-profit organizations around the world like Feed the Children & the American Red Cross. If you love to read & support literacy in your family, community & the world, support all your Half Price Bookstores. It’s easy, stop by, see what beckons to you. Read some books, buy some books, give some books, then, sell them some books & feel good about giving someone else & someone else’s child the opportunity for a good read too. Highly Recommend.

I went to another large book store looking for two books on a certain subject and they didn’t have anything at all, so I come here to see what I can find and they had over 30 books on one of the subjects I was looking for. This is my #1 place to search for books now. I am very impressed with their inventory.

Have you ever had that experience where you realize you probably buy too many of your books online because you have no idea how some of your favorite authors are actually classified? I just recently had this experience at Half Price Books when looking for books by Mary Roach. The staff member who helped me out was great and we found a book of hers in the metaphysics section, because of course! HPB is very clean and has a good selection overall. I’ve occasionally had trouble finding books I’m looking for, but HPB does depend a lot on what they get in, so I can’t be too upset by that. And the staff did offer to have the book mailed to me, but I would have to pay shipping costs, so I was better off ordering it myself online. The prices are fair and marked down from the market price. Every now and then you can find the book cheaper online, but you do miss out on getting to explore a bookstore when you do that. I do enjoy getting to explore Half Price Books and all the different sections they have … even metaphysics. HPB also sells journals and planners, usually for cheaper than I can find elsewhere. And of course, they have a music section with records and CDs as well. I can’t quite give Half Price Books four stars because when selling books back, you don’t get much, and my experiences with the staff have been hit or miss. My last visit there, I had a great staff member helping me out, but the time before that didn’t go as well. But I’ll definitely be returning to HBP.

Good prices, great selection. Not sure about the book-buying prices though as we didn’t sell any. They have a decent sized clearance area with some good choices. The overall look and feel when walking in the door was that it was clean and well organized. There weren’t piles of books lying around like in some of the bigger bookstores. There were also plenty of staff members around to help if needed.

I never know what to do with old books. If I were an entrepreneurial sort, I could sell them on Amazon, overcharge for the shipping and possibly earn $ 2, even $ 3 for some of my paperbacks. Sometimes I’ll keep them for years in case I ever get around to actually doing it.(I will never do it.) So the fact that Half Price Books will give me 25 cents for a book is simultaneously a ripoff in their favor and 25 cents more than I would ever get out of them on my own. And since they run plenty of sales and specials, I can grab all kinds of fun stuff for about as cheap(often cheaper) as I can buy online. The place is clean, and while the staff can be hit or miss, most of them really seem to love their jobs. On my last visit, I was cornered by an enthusiastic fellow who proceeded to interrogate me at some length about my latest travels, thinking he was being friendly and charming while I carefully calculated the exact angle needed to strike him with the closest hardcover title and make my escape. Definitely the place to go to try something new in your reading life. Have fun!

This store is awesome! We get some great novels and magazines. I always head right to clearance as I love picking up old coffee-table books and comics for a buck! Go when you have time to look around! They also have records, CDs, movies, and other cool items.

I love Half Price Books! I remember visiting this store way back when the closest location to my hometown(Norman) was in Dallas, TX. I can always find such great deals there, and now that I’m expecting a baby, I love that I can get $ 3 board books :). Highly recommend checking out this store. I wish we had one in San Diego!
