I have been using The House of Clay for the past 10 years for all of my pottery needs. As an art teacher for the Putnam City Schools they provided top of the line clay and kiln services, plus professional development for teachers when we needed a little extra instruction. When I decided to continue my own artistic training, they had the BEST wheel throwing classes for every level from beginning to advanced. I had taken ceramics in college, but never gained much confidence wheel throwing, but Marvin had me confident and throwing on my own before the end of the first night! The House of Clay has been around for over 65 years! It’s a family run business and an Oklahoma City tradition. Judith Wagenseller, owner and operator, has always taken the time to answer my questions and find solutions for me. Her daughter, Hattie Wagenseller, is also very knowledgeable and is frequently helping out in the evenings and on weekends. I read that review about their hours being horrible. I don’t know when she needed to shop, but I believe they are open at 10am and close at 5pm Tuesday– Saturday. Those are great hours where surely a little planning ahead could get anyone a good time to visit. As for the parking lot being gravel, it’s a CLAY studio. Students clean their equipment, pour buckets of water outside, have firings, etc. etc. It’s not the mall. The location is primo, right near The Paseo, Western, the Asian District, and Uptown 23rd. Their prices are great and the items you buy there are professional quality. If you’ve ever bought many art supplies, you know there are huge quality and price differences between student grade and professional grade– The House of Clay is the real deal.

This place was awesome! I passed by it almost all my life and now I am hooked on pottery/ceramics. Their hours are convient, I can run by on my lunch break or even stop by there on Saturdays to play. They have so many supplies that you can make anything look great! The people that work there are so very helpful. They have helped me with school projects and also helped me with some gifts that I was making out of clay. I found out just recently that this is a family business. I couldn’t believe when they told me that they had be in business for 62 years! Go check it out, you will be in heaven!

Ive been in this store a couple times now. I take classes at the city arts center. This is one of the very few pottery/ceramic stores in okc. They have a great selection of glazes and clay. They also have bare ceramic items you can glaze or paint. So why just 3 stars. The location isn’t good. The parking is gravel and just odd. And the hours are horrible. It’s also super over priced and the older lady that helps you isn’t really the nicest person or the most helpful.
