This has been a great find and maybe the best kept secret in Olathe and the surrounding area. So many choices for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Not only choices but dishes you wont find anywhere else. Most ingredients are made in-house and you can taste the difference. Check their hours as they close early some days. Staff is very friendly and may be a tiny bit slow but only because they are helping each other. Highly recommend this place and hope you eat your way through the menu. Oh and by the way the pies are handmade and delicious. If you leave hungry its your fault.

This is our favorite spot for breakfast. We have always had fast service with consistent quality food. I’m a huge fan of eggs Benedict and the variety that they have is amazing. The owners are very friendly and always remember us even when it’s been months in between visits.

I was so excited to go try this place. We drove 30min and met my family to do breakfast. I ordered the train wreck. I have heard so many good things I couldnt wait. I was told it was so big i wouldn’t finish it. Well I defiantly didnt finish it because i thought it was nasty. I could not find any eggs in it at all like described and the meat was ground down so bad it was like having bacon bits on a salad. I asked the server and she had no clue what was even in it. So then i asked the manager or owner and explained that it had no eggs and was not as described. She was argumentative so i just left it as is and paid for my familys meal and left. My family liked their food but when i pay $ 70 for 4 adults and one child for breakfast before tip and it was far from satisfying, i will not be back. Also we had asked for a few things and we were not told there was extra charges for the items.

Went back for lunch and we were not disappointed. Burgers and sandwiches both were great and the price was right. Service was quick but not to the point that we felt like we were being rushed out. It’s nice to be greeted when you walk into a restaurant. The owner is always popping around from wherever she is to give an abundant and energized hello! Olathe is known for being a suburb of strip malls and chain restaurants but this place holds a bit of that small town magic that I’ve been missing. The more we go there, the more we appreciate the reused décor from the Chinese restaurant that once inhabited the same walls. The walls are lined with pictures of what downtown Olathe used to look like before modernization and an influx of suburbanites took over. Go. Order the Ruben. Notice that the sauerkraut and corned beef are chopped together and grilled to take out any sogginess and that the Swiss cheese is extra gooey. Add a little thousand island. You won’t regret it.

This is my first time to eat at the Downtown Diner. Food was well prepared & very tasty! Service was great, I had the western omelette, it was great and was stuffed with the ingredients but what a plus they put some on the ingredients on top, I really liked the hash browns. Will definitely be a repeat customer!

This place… this place surprised the heck out of me. I walk in and see chinese restaurant décor. Which dont get me wrong, i love chinese food but its not exactly what one would expect from an American food diner. We sit down and are promptly greeted. I order the Trainwreck and my friends order some other breakfast fare. The food arrives quickly and let me tell you… everything was cooked to perfection. Both my eggs as well as my friends eggs were done beautifully. Sausage was a nice sized link with a crisp snap. Full of flavor. Toast was thick and toasted nicely. Hashbrowns were crisped grandly and the gravy was perfect and slightly spicy. Ive eaten here twice more and i will many many more times. Quality has been consistent thus far and food is cheap to boot!

The burger was thick and perfectly cooked, plus they have great pickles. But the service was on the slow side. But I am defiently coming back to try the«Juicy Lucy» which had the cheese on the inside!

Very average diner experience. Service was quick and attentive, I give it 5 stars but the food was just mediocre. I had the pulled pork dinner with beans and fries. This is not a BBQ joint so I should have lowered my expectations. The pork must have been cooked or served from liquid, it was kind of watery. The beans were very sweet and very good, as if they had actually been baked. Fries were thick-cut and good. My husband had breakfast food. The hash browns must be deep-fried, each shred was crispy and there wasn’t any potato texture left. Other than that, he said it was average.

I dislike Olathe’s traffic and noise but this place might just make me forget about all that. Homemade sandwich buns that are toasted on the grill, awesome!

We were the 4th and 5th people in diner. So you would think the food would be at least warm if not hot. And with what it cost disappointng to say the least. The food tasted fine but when we come back to visit we’ll try somewhere else.

This diner is really good with somethings, meh with others. The burgers are the best thing I have had here. A decent sized burger, with the perfect thickness. Not overcooked, but not dripping juicy. There are a ton of options and they are well seasoned. The burgers come with fries. The fries are right on, thicker meaty insides and crisp outsides. The breakfast are standard diner fare. You can’t go wrong, although the white gravy is a little too white and could be more sausage. It is almost as if they stir it up per order instead of making a big yummy batch. Skip the meatloaf. I can not even describe the consistency of it, except it isn’t meatloaf consistency! French dip is decent. I wouldn’t trip over myself going for one and would probably get a burger instead, but you won’t hate it. Overall typical diner menu and like most diners, they have their stars. Service is amazing! The owners work the restaurant and absolutely friendly. Some of the best service you will find.

Went here for the first time last week. We had previously gone to a small diner in Paola, Kansas, for breakfast. But since we moved, it’s too far to drive there. So I scoped out a place that had a similar local-dive atmosphere that seemed family-oriented. I ordered the half-order of biscuits and gravy and one pancake. The pancake did say«giant,» but I didn’t take it seriously. It was huge, and so delicious. I love when pancakes are«cake» and not flat like that ethiopian bread junk. The prices were amazing, and our bill would have been cheap if it wouldn’t have been for the coffee. The two of us both ordered coffee, and those combined ended up being more expensive than anything else we ordered individually. Kinda hard to have breakfast without coffee though. I’m amazed at how much places charge for regular coffee these days. The woman who was running the place that Saturday morning was a cheery bag of joy, and I felt like I had known her for years by the time breakfast was finished. Very comfortable to be here. I’ll be back tomorrow.

Really nice and clean business. Sue and Rich treat you like family. Never tried a meal I didn’t like! Rich is always cooking up something new every day in his kitchen. Great home cooked meals! The epitome of comfort food! The meatloaf is excellent smoky goodness!

In our party of four, two of us found black hair in our omelettes. Waited 45 mins+ for our food. Service was very poor.

Great lunch! We ordered the Cobb Salad! It was quite large! We enjoyed the meal. All their pies are made fresh! I was eyeing the Nutella Chocolate cake!

Came in for breakfast. I got the half order of biscuits and gravy and a short stack. The gravy tasted like packet gravy. The sausage in the gravy was chopped up sausage patties and didn’t have the nice texture I love with ground sausage. The pancakes had an average flavor but were not light fluffy goodness that I would expect from a diner.

Dropped in again, for breakfast this time. Ordered just a basic plate with sausage, eggs and potatoes. All good. Sausage a little spicier than I expected, but the country potatoes were seasoned perfectly. Again, the waitress(different one today) kept up with us very well, and made the visit more like a home town experience, where everyone knows you. And her having a personality is a refreshing change from the usual emotionless robot that you can encounter in other cafes.
